My login page goes to Darwin/BSD. I would like to transfer my photos.

My G4 opens to the login page. I click my user name and when I type the first letter of my password the screen changes to a black screen with white type starting with "Darwin/BSD." A couple of lines down there's a user name request, which I do, then hit return. Then a password request, which I type in, hit return. Then I'm stuck.
Is there a code I can type in to access the photo files and move them onto my new computer?
Addtionally, I've restarted from the Tiger installation disk. I can't archive and reinstall because I don't have enough memory.
I've restarted in OS 9.2 and tried to trash unnecessary programs, etc. then emptied the trash to make room but that hasn't made a difference.
I stuck a thumb drive into the USB port to see if I could move photos onto that but the computer says it can't enumerate it so I removed it.

Sounds like for some reason, your computer may be trying to start up
in Single User mode. You may have to see if there is a way to make it
reboot or restart normally from the odd screen you get after trying to
put in your password. And it also sounds like there is a problem in there.
• Mac OS X: How to start up in single-user or verbose mode
Jun 19, 2008 ... Mac OS X Server, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.3,
Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.0, Mac OS X 10.5.
Starting up in single-user or... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
You could try, first, to see if starting up in SafeBoot mode, by holding
the Shift key down after the startup tone, and continue to hold it until
you get a login screen where you should be able to enter password.
And then, the computer should go to a normal looking reduced form
of Finder desktop screen. From here, you could try running Disk Utility
and in there, run 'repair disk permissions' then quit this Utility & restart.
If that does not work, then consider the above link to Single User boot.
Also, other options may include trying to start the computer from the
Installer boot disc for your OS X presently in the computer, and use its
Disk Utility from the Installer's drop-down menu options just before the
actual Installer would try to get you to reinstall. You don't need that part.
PS: You could not begin to remove enough to a flash drive to make a
difference, if the main hard disk drive is overfull and it can't find enough
room for a new system folder that an archive & install would create.
Good luck & happy computing!

    Just bought Adobe Photoshop Ps , clicked on the icon in my Mac dock and am staring at a black page with a perimeter of symbols and a heading that reads "Adobe Photoshop CC  2014. I don't have a clue what I do next. I would like to transfer some photos from my iPhoto library. Where do I start?

    Photoshop does not transfer files nor import files. It can open files from any place that finder can access for files.
    This is the normal process:
    You need to log into https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/catalog/desktop.html Download Center
    Select the app you would like to start with
    The Creative Cloud manager will install first.
    When done installing, the Creative cloud (adobe manager) should open in the middle of your screen.
    If no apps automatically start installing then click on Apps
    Scroll down to the app you want to install and click the install button
    Once the manager says it is done, you can start your app like you normally do with any other app.

  • Login takes me to Darwin/BSD - HELP!

    Upon booting and logining in, a black screen appears with this:
    Darwin/BSD (Geneva-Raes-Computer.local) (console)
    Login:
    I am unable to login. When I try to input any information it prompts 'Could not determine audit condition'
    How can I get to the Desktop?

    If you were installing system updates and the machine crashed, then it means that only a partila update occurred, and some files have been changed and others haven't, making the machine confused.
    Your best option at this point is to back up all your files, boot from the install CD, erase the drive and install the OS from scratch...fresh. Then do all the updates then install your applications and bring back your files.

  • Booting From Internal Drive Goes To Darwin/BSD

    Hi,
    I recently put a new internal drive in my Mac Pro and was booting between drives (Bay 1 = OS 10.4.11 and Bay 2 = OS 10.6.3) just fine. Then I added a user account and when I tried to boot up from the OS 10.4.11 drive it went to Darwin screen. I have since erased the other user and went back to one account. I am still getting the darwin screen when trying to boot from the 10.4.11 drive. After reading through forums I have gone this far:
    Darwin asks for login: I complete and it says Welcome to Darwin!
    Then I type: tail -20 var/log/system.log
    it reads fine until I get this message:

    Reinstall:
    How to Perform an Archive and Install
    An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • HT4413 migration from a PC to a Mac. my migration keeps freezing if the screensaver goes on. I have been trying to transfer my photos and music for almost 24 hours with no results :(

    Hi. My wonderful hubby surprised me with a new MacBook Pro last night (he will be deploying soon and won't be home for the holidays, valentines day, my birthday or our anniversary)! I have a great camera and a TON of photos on my laptop that I don't want to lose. So I downloaded the migration software to my Asus and it starts out just fine and then freezes around the 1 hr and 48 minutes left. I have changed the energy settings so that it doesn't sleep, but still likes to freeze. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the screen saver? Can someone help this new Mac user? I feel like I'm learning a new language!

  • Redirect to Portal Login page from portlet

    We have lots of applications on the portal and many of them need the logged in user information to provide the right display context. For example, "My Notes" where notes are stamped with the user's login id. Our portlet applications show exception messages when the user id is unavailable. Pressing a refresh button takes them to the portal login page.
    Does anyone know how to redirect to the portal login page? Here is how I would like it to work: A user has the application up beyond the session timeout period and does something that causes the page to submit. At the application server we look for the logged in user ID which is missing due to session timeout and we send them to the portal login page.
    Thanks! Mike

    Hi James,
    <br />
    <br />I fear this isn´t possible to do with ADDT, as it will - when using its Restrict Access To Page behaviour - always redirect to the page you specified in the Control Panel.
    <br />
    <br />However you can help yourself with a simple custom PHP redirect script
    <i>(place it @ @ line 1 of your document)</i> which checks whether the "kt_login_id" Session Variable is set, and if it´s not set, redirect to a different login page:
    <br />
    <br /><?php<br />if (!isset($_SESSION['kt_login_id'])) {<br />header('Location: http://www.example.com/directory/login.php') ;<br />}<br />?>
    <br />
    <br />Hint: users who login via a different login page will still be redirected to ADDT´s default login page when logging out
    <br />

  • Powerbook won't boot, Darwin/BSD message on startup

    Hi all, I've tried these discussions before and am hoping you'll pull through again. I love these forums! I'm writing this on a back-up computer. Why I'm here...
    This morning I backed up my computer as part of my weekly ritual. I'm using 10.2.8. I did a command-i (get info) and changed the permissions so only I could log in and make changes. I backed up the computer, and cleaned up the drive a little bit, archiving old files...didn't think I touched any system files but I must have. So I restarted, and now I get a screen that says "Darwin/BSD" and asks for a login. I type it in successfully, along with the password, and it brings me to console mode, saying "welcome to darwin." Only, when I try to boot from another drive with a working os 9, it still goes to Darwin/BSD mode. When I try to do the same by re-inserting the OS X software disk, to reinstall, it still goes to Darwin/BSD mode. Help! I also tried resetting the PRAM, and when I did that, I got a long tone, followed by the green light blinking rapidly for ten seconds, followed by a restart, with the startup sound being audible. I've been scouring these forums for solutions, but so far I'm out of luck. Grateful this forum is here. Please Help! If you have any ideas short of me throwing the computer at the wall, please let me know. What can I do?

  • OSX login failure- goes to UNIX login

    Please help! I deleted home user (bad move) and restarted macbook and now I think the auto login goes to a displaced user and routes me to the UNIX login. It says "Darwin/BSD (xxx.local) (console)
    login: "
    I've tried everything and can't log in or get to UGI. I have tried safe boot by holding shift but nothing changes. I am able to hold apple S to get to UNIX as root user. Please someone help!

    Hello (to the two recent posters):
    For future reference, you will get a far greater readership if you post your question as a new thread, rather than "piggybacking." Each issue, although the end game is the same, differs in many ways - some significantly.
    I would do an archive and install to put a fresh OS X on the system while retaining files, programs, and settings:

  • The enter key to login pages no longer works in Firefox 5

    After upgrading to Firefox 5 hitting the enter key after entering my password on login page does nothing. Before it would submit the page. This was a problem with the beta, too, and I had to downgrade to 4 to fix it. That works fine in 4.

    Yes, this is a stupid behaviour. I have it too. Also, in textboxes it doesn't give me new line.
    The form sending you can solve via hitting Ctrl + Enter.

  • Problem creating login page in portal webapplication

    Hi all,
    I have been working with ADF for quite some years. Now, I have found webcenter portal on my path.
    I'm telling you this is square one all over again.......trying to figure out why the most simple things do not work like they should. like this one
    I'm on a project that has to build a new portal application. when you start it, you should be taken to a page where you have to log in.
    This is the only public page in the portal app. after logging in, you will see the start page of the portal app. From here you can go to other pages through a menu tree on the left side of the page (=within the page template).
    Anyway, I seem to no even get this to work........
    I have made two pages. a loginPage and a landingPage. I know you get a login.jspx and a home.jspx for free, but I want to make my own since I had problems attaching my custom pagetemplate. Some other thing that doesn't work........
    Anyway, I have made these two pages within the faces-config.xml I have tied the login_success action to my landingPage and the logout_success to the loginPage. I have also altered the login.html to redirect to my loginPage.jspx instead of the login.jspx On the loginPage Ideally, I would like to drag a login taskflow with a page-fragment where I have two inputfields and a button, which are connected to the o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean. But that is for later, since it doesn't even work when I have put those two inputfields and button directly on my loginPage.jspx
    I have tried several different configurations using both the pages.xml file and the jazn-data.xml, but to no avail.
    What am I doing wrong? in the pages.xml, what should be the one with home as it's id? should both the loginPage and the landingPage be in there?
    Even when I manage to get the loginPage first at startup, the button (who's action is pointing to the doLogin of the o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean) does nothing. Also nothing in the logs.
    Can anyone please tell me how I can get this to work?
    thanks a lot in advance.....

    Hi fisherman,
    custom login page can be created and it can be used in your custom template by simply creating your own login class :o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean instead of using the default one.
    otherwise the second type of solution is :
    create a subform and write the following type of code in your jspx/jsff page.
    <af:subform id="sub_id">
    <af:panelFormLayout id="pt_pfl1" >
    <af:panelGroupLayout id="pgl1" layout="vertical" >
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td width="50%">
    <af:activeOutputText value="username"
    id="aot199"/>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="50%">
    <af:inputText id="pt_it1" simple="true"
    value="#{o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean.userName}"
    />
    </td>
    </tr><tr>
    <td width="50%">
    <af:activeOutputText value="password"
    id="aot198"/>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td width="50%">
    <af:inputText id="pt_it2" simple="true"
    value="#{o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean.password}"
    columns="30" secret="true"
    />
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </af:panelGroupLayout>
    </af:panelFormLayout>
    <af:spacer width="3" height="3" id="pt_s2"/>
    <af:panelGroupLayout id="pt_pgl14" layout="horizontal" halign="end" >
    <af:commandButton id="pt_logincb"
    action="#{o_w_s_l_LoginBackingBean.doLogin}"
    >
    </af:commandButton>
    this is a sample code,may be some errors are present.but it should work definity if you mention the login success page in faces-config.xml.
    Hope ,it will help you.

  • Safari Won't Open BlueSocket Login Page

    Hi
    At University, we use a system called BlueSocket to log into our wireless networks. It basically pops up a webpage when a browser opens and i type my login details in. I am using Black MacBook, Snow Leopard and Safari 4.0.3 but when i connect to the network, i get assigned an IP, then try to launch Safari, it tries to load my home page and not the BlueSocket login page.
    Does anyone know what would be causing this? I don't have any proxies set. I spoke to the Helpdesk at University, but they don't deal very well with Macs...but they said it should work fine with Safari, and it does work fine with my iPhone.
    Thanks
    Joe

    I'm having a similar problem when I visit my mom at the hospital. The hospital network redirects you to a login page when you open a new browser on their network. Same as most places now - whether hotels or Starbucks or wherever. I got on once with Safari, and now neither Safari nor Firefox will redirect again. I tried it in Windows running Parallels and it didn't work, either. I finally rebooted with BootCamp and it works fine in IE, Safari, and Firefox. I restarted back into Snow Leopard, and nada.
    I hate it when Windows does something better than Mac. Anybody know why this is happening?

  • "Remember me"/"Stay logged in" feature at login page

    Hi,
    I have a login page and I want there an option like "Remember me" so that a user doesn't have to enter user name and password everytime he wants to access the website. We are Developing with Jdev PS4.
    Login.java
    public void doLogin(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
       FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
       HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) ctx.getExternalContext().getRequest();
       CallbackHandler handler = new URLCallbackHandler("my user", "my password");
       Subject mySubject = Authentication.login(handler);
       ServletAuthentication.runAs(mySubject, request);
       String loginUrl = "adfAuthentication?success_url=/faces/...";
       ctx.getExternalContext().redirect(loginUrl);
       ctx.responseComplete();
    }web.xml:
      <login-config>
        <auth-method>FORM</auth-method>
        <form-login-config>
          <form-login-page>/faces/myLogin.jspx</form-login-page>
          <form-error-page>/faces/welcome.jspx</form-error-page>
        </form-login-config>
      </login-config>I also started testing with a cookie after successfull login:
            final FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            final ExternalContext externalContext = facesContext.getExternalContext();
            final HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse) externalContext.getResponse();
            final HttpSession session = (HttpSession) externalContext.getSession(false);
            //Extend session timeout
            session.setMaxInactiveInterval(REMEMBER_ME_TIMEOUT_IN_S);
            //Generate session ID
            final String sessionId = UUID.randomUUID().toString();
            //Create persistent cookie
            final Cookie cookie = new Cookie(REMEMBER_ME_ID_KEY, sessionId);
            cookie.setMaxAge(REMEMBER_ME_TIMEOUT_IN_S);
            cookie.setPath("/");
            //cookie.setSecure(true); //Only send when SSL ON
            response.addCookie(cookie);But now I have some questions how to continue:
    1. How to skip the login page when the user accesses the webpage? Use a HttpSessionListener or Filter to redirect? Can someone provide a snippet how to implement best?
    2. How to perform the user login, because I don't want to save the credentials in the cookie. How can I perform the login as shown above: CallbackHandler handler = new URLCallbackHandler("my user", "my password");
    Any hints/links or examples to help get me get started on adding such a feature. would be more than appreciated.
    Regards Markus

    Ok, now I have a working approach (as far as I can rate this for now).
    I use a PagePhaseListener to check if there is the persistent cookie with a unique ID. With the unique ID at server side I can restore the user credentials and perform a login.
