My login screen is blank/solid monochromatic. I can't change it...
Ever since I started messing with secrets pref pan, it's been nothing but trouble. It's supposed to me a GUI too to most common/popular command line hacks. So far it's been 0 for 2.
DS_Store files still propagated to Windows Shares despite hack... think I resolved that with doing hack manually, but what's really bothering me is my login screen. Ever since I changed it to another .png in Secrets it's been blank, a blue/grey hue solid color. Since then I've tried replacing the library file directly with another file, and no go.
I think the location where it looks has changed. I tried doing it the manual way here:
http://osxdaily.com/2007/02/22/customize-the-mac-os-x-login-screen/
but no go... I can't even see the spacey background anymore. Can anyone help me to get back to square 1?
used terminal command: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture "/Users/your_user/Public/myloginwindow.jpg" ommitted 'your_user' in lieu of my username and pic name. Ensured pic is 1280x800 .jpg (does that even make a difference btw); put it in my user public folder; ensured setting took in com.apple.loginwindow.plist; it did; Reboot. Still solid blue background. Sigh... what could be causing this?
BTW, all secrets supposedly does is change this file location, same as sudo command in bash. It's possible the 1st time I did it the pic res didn't match my screen res, should that matter? At worst, I'd think it wouldn't work, but not cause this...

Once my screen saver begins and I then wish to use my laptop again i tap the mouse pad and my screen is blank. As i move my mouse it slowly uncovers my screen pixel by pixel until i am able to enter my password and login. Any info provided would be great.

Screen went blank on 4s and can't turn back on. Battery is charged.
Screen went blank on 4s. Battery is fully charged. Can not turn on.
Okay, got my phone back from the store I originally bought it at (the Swedish equivalent to Best Buy), and they had tried charging it with an iPhone-charger with no results. However, when they tested with an off-brand charger, it started working again. I wonder why that is.
When I got home, it was on 98% and I plugged it in with my regular charger just to see if I would really need to go out of my way to buy a completely different charger. It charged up to 99%, and I then unplugged it. I will wait and see if the problem re-occurs, but as it looks now, I probably won't be needing to get the battery changed nor book an appointment with the Genius Bar I'll check in here again if that were to happen, to give my review of the Genius Bar!
Thanks for all the help again -
iPad 1st gen..help-clicked on an app and the screen went blank and now it won't' do anything-can't turn it off and it's getting hot. How do I remove the battery.
You cannot remove the battery on the iPad. If it is getting very hot, unplug it from power, if it's plugged in and set it down somewhere to let it cool off. Set it on something that cannot catch fire - as bizarre as that sounds. Set it on something that will not burn.
After it has cooled off, then try to restart it. If it will not start, try a reset.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
My login screen is now zoomed in and I cannot change it.
My login screen has all of a sudden become zoomed in. But once I'm logged in, the screen size/zoom is back to normal. What is going on here?
Ok, solved it by resetting the PRAM (ALT+CMD+P+R while booting, you can find detailed steps anywhere on the interwebs)
I believe the resolution changed, so it wasn't a "zoom" issue afterall.
When you are in your startup/logon screen (the screen where you type your password) try pressing ALT+CMD+F5 (you might have to press Fn too to get to F5 instead of the keyboard-light button). You'll be presented with all sorts of accessibility options, one of the first ones is the zoom function. But it doesn't seem active, because the zoom-slider is already on its lowest value.
Anyway, clearing the PRAM should fix your issue. -

White screen and progress bar on login screen
Hi
I recently upgraded my Mac Air 2012 to Yosemite. That went fine with no issues. I then turned on FileVault and left the computer to encrypt and optimize the system drive overnight. I woke up this morning to find that the computer had crashed and automatically restarted sometime during the night. The FileVault screen in System Preferences says that FileVault is on for System. I am hoping that this means the the encryption and optimization process completed before the crash.
I only ask as now, whenever I login to my Apple Air, the login screen is blank white. When I enter my password a progress bar appears beneath the password box. When this progress bar has reached its conclusion, the computer logins in to my account and I can use it without issue.
I know that this white screen should not be there as I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Yosemite and activated FileVault. I can now login to that computer on a screen with a blurred image of my desktop behind it. Once the password has been entered, there is no progress bar, I am just immediately logged onto the desktop.
Any idea what might of happened and how this can be solved?
Ta.Having spoken to Jigsaw 24 Tech support have solved the problem - just needed the PRAM resetting.

How to Bypass Windows 7 Login Screen When Forgot Admin Password
When forgot Windows 7 administrator login password and be stuck at the login screen what can you do? Believe that many people have encountered such a situation where they are locked out of their own computer for forgotten Windows administrator password. So today I would like to talk about several tricks on how to bypass Windows 7 login screen when forgot administrator login password. Trick 1: Reset Windows 7 admin password with password reset diskIf you have ever created a Windows password reset disk for that administrator account before you forgot its password it is easy to use it to reset or remove its password. Just insert the disk into your locked Windows 7 computer and click ¡°Reset Password¡± link on the login screen. Then follow the password reset wizard to perform password reset. This is the easiest way to bypass a Windows login screen when forgot administrator password. Trick 2: Change Windows 7 admin password in Safe ModeIf you have no password reset disk you have to look for other tricks to bypass your Windows 7 administrator password. So if you have enabled the built-in administrator account you can enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 when your computer is booting. And access that built-in administrator account to change other user password. Trick 3: Bypass Windows 7 Login screen with Windows Password RescuerIf the forward 2 tricks don't work, it is necessary for you to use an effective Windows Password Recovery tool like Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer. Steps are as below.Step 1: Download and install Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer into another accessible computer.Step 2: Launch this tool and follow its instruction to burn it to a USB/CD/DVD flash drive.Step 3: Boot your locked Windows 7 computer from the flash drive.Step 4: Follow its instruction to reset/remove your Windows administrator password. Detailed video tutorial :How to Remove or Bypass Windows 7 Administrator Password - Forgot Windows 7 Administrator Password
The methods above don't work at all. Eventually I used a paid tool - PCUnlocker Live CD, and it successfully bypassed my lost admin password.

Macbook Pro late 2013 - problem with login screen resolution
Hi,
I've got problem with login screen resolution, after upgrade to Yosemite. I use the 4rd resolution (last one) on my Mac Pro (late 2013), and after restart login screen is always on optimum mode... But it's only about the login screen.
Do you know how can I fix it? I would like to have the same resolution on every screen.
thx in advanceI Reformatted the CF card on the new computer it works fine now on the new Mac Pro
Interesting point about the low power of the usb ports I had to deal with all devices ejecting them selves when the mac pro was idle or slept Drobo needed a Firmware update and another drives needed me to change the sleep setting or the Mac Pro to never and i also had to deploy a script to write to each device ever minute, this kind of sold the problem with external Hard drives. I wonder if the lowering power to a CF card can eject it in a manor which would make the computer think it is corrupt.
I have looked at buying a power usb Hub but seems only one or two of the ports are powered.
Seems to be a bit problem with the mac pro especially as everything has to be connected externally
Will assume the Firewire Connector does not work. -
Screen goes blank when using Patch tool
The only information I've been able to find on this issue thus far was a post that was written during the Photoshop CS6 beta period at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4285375
I am using the final released Photoshop CS6 software, not beta, and am having the same issue with the Patch tool. I start to drag around an area to make a selecton, and the screen goes blank so that I can't see where I'm making the selection. When I release the mouse, the image appears again. Another problem which may be related is that sometimes when I zoom in, the screen goes blank. Closing Photoshop and re-launching it usually fixes the problem, but is an annoying time-waster. I have the most current update from the Cloud for Photoshop CS6, 13.1.2.X64.
Does anyone know a fix for this?RAM is 12 GB. I'm not sure which numbers are relevant for VRAM and scratch drive, but this is what I found for video card properties:
Total Available Graphics Memory: 2809 MB
Dedicated Video memory: 1024 MB
System Video Memory: 0 MB
Shard System Memory: 1785 MB -
My messages screen is blank after upgrading iPhone 5 to IOS 8
I upgraded my iPhone 5 to IOS 8 this morning and now my messages screen is blank (white). I can see an incoming message on the screen when the phone is locked but disappears after unlocking. The Messages icon reflects an ever-increasing number of unread messages. Help!!
Hi ..
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset. -
I have my mac configured so that you must pick your userid and then enter the password in order to log in. After upgrading to 10.5, the image displayed in the background of the initial login screen is the Time Machine image. This changed from what I had it set to before the upgrade, but I can't seem to find where to change this image. I was able to change the image for the desktop, but I can't seem to find where to change the login screen image.
Any help appreciated!Go into your Macintosh HD drive, then the System folder, then Library to find a folder called Core Services, there is a file called DefaultDesktop.jpg, copy this file to another location, DONT DELETE IT!!! Then find a picture you want to use and rename it to DefaultDesktop.jpg and copy it into the Core Services folder, confirm to replace the existing one, it may ask for a password, input the password, restart and this should do it.

Hi, we just bought a MacBook here in Beijing and unfortunately the store insisted on setting it up initially in Chinese so that they can "help" us set it up. They've managed to shift most everything to English afterwards but the Login screen is still in Chinese. I have followed the instructions in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106478 but while it managed to convert the root user to English from Chinese, the Login Screen is still in Chinese. Can someone help?

I don't have an answer but, to point out the obvious, the other way that you can try to do this is to reinstall OS X, as the support article notes. It's a pain but if you followed all the other instructions, it may be your only recourse.
Having lived in Beijing in the mid-90s, it's great to hear that you can actually buy a Mac. Back then if you said Apple, people replied "Huh?" Mac users were an extreme oddity and trying to do anything--like connecting with a network--was impossibly trying.
