My lost Photos on my may following upgrade to Yosemite

I have just upgraded my Mac to Yosemite, I have now lost all my photos in iPhoto! having read the same question on this forum, I seem to have been too late to down load the latest iPhotos from the Apps store at it has been removed. What do I do now to retrieve my lost photos?

iPhotos has been replaced with a new app called Photos. If it completed migrating your iPhoto Library, all your images are now also in Photos Library(Events are now Albums in a folder named iPhoto Events.
iPhoto and iPhoto Library remain on your drive and work as before.
How to get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X10.10.3.

The steps below may help get your events and projects to appear in iMovie.
Verify that the latest iMovie update is installed.
Open the Mac App Store.
Click the Updates tab.
Click Update All or the Update button that appears next to iMovie.
After verifying that you have the latest version of iMovie, you can update your projects and events by following these steps.
In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Home.
Open the Movies folder.
In the iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders, you’ll find a file named “UpdatedtoiMovie10.” Move this file to the Trash from both folders.
Open iMovie.
Choose File > Update Projects and Events.
iMovie will update your projects and events. You can repeat these steps for projects and events stored on external drives.

I can't upgrade my Keynote version following upgrade to Yosemite. Why?

I owned Keynote before the update, but why can't I update to the new version of Keynote following my upgrade to Yosemite?
When I try it tells me that the original purchasing account was not the same as the one I use now. This is incorrect, my account is the same.

If you purchased a previous version of Keynote 6, you should be able to download from the Mac App Store providing you are logged in with the Apple ID that purchased version 6. If you purchased (Keynote 5) iWork 09, the free offer to upgrade is no longer available.
If you qualify and this does not work you will need to contact Apple Support who can reset the account to release the purchase.

Lost photos and folders during system upgrade

A while back, I upgraded to v 10.9.2 and ALL of my photos and folders within iPhoto vanished. How can I re-import them into my nice, little folders so I don't have to spend a week or more sorting through thousands of photos that span more than a decade?

It souns like you imported your old iPhtoo lbrary into the ew Phot = NEVER import a iPoto lbrary into iPhoto - it does not work and creates a massive mess
If this is what you did and you still have the original library available drag the bad library to the desktop and drag the original library to yoru pictures folder and launch iPhoto - depending on the old version you will tehn either launch iPhoto and upgrade the library or downloan, install and execture the library upgrader and then launch iPhoto to finish the upgrade

You can't back up an open iPhoto...
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

Lost photos in upgrade iPad

I recently bought a new iPad 4 after losing my iPad 2. In the upgrade I seemed to have lost photos. My previous data etc was always backed up regularly through iOS 6. I have upgraded to iOS 7 on the new iPad but still no photos. What can I do to restore my photos?

My iphoto on my imac somehow updated on its own and now its saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto." have i lost my photos?

I tried to open my iphoto last night on my iMAC and it somehow updated on it's own and now has a message saying "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade.The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." I only have the option to quit or upgrade. What does this mean? Have i lost my pictures? i don't properly have my back up hard drive set up so all my pictures aren't backed up.

After your iPhoto application got updated to a new version, iPhoto will convert the iPhoto library to a new format, that is used by the new version. The warning tells you, that after this upgrade older iPhoto versions will no longer be able to read the iPhoto library. If you have a second Mac with older software that might be important. Make a backup to be on the safe side and let iPhoto upgrade the library.

Recover lost photos and videos after 7.1.1 upgrade fail

Hi,
I updated my Ipad mini this morning to 7.1.1, and after it failed to update, I tried to install again, after which it went into recovery mode. It looks like the last successful cloud backup was 6 months ago, so I have lost 6 months of photos and videos of my young baby.
Photo stream was turned on, so my question is - can I recover the lost photos/videos from photostream somehow?
Some feedback for Apple: fix your upgrade process, and if there is even an outside possibility that it will remove all my photos and videos as part of the update, make doing a full backup before the update mandatory.

Thanks for this! I've found and saved the file as you explained, and I've downloaded the software, however I can't see how I upload teh file into touchcopy - can you help? I've tried right clicking on the file, open with and choose touchcopy, but it just keeps looking for my iphone. Thanks!

All apps on the iPad should be in the iTunes library with iTunes on the computer the iPad is synced with.

Move the incompatible iPhoto version to the Trash, before you try to reinstall from the AppStore, but don't empty the Trash.

The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore Purchases tab with ⌘R, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.

IPhotos has lost my Photos when upgrading to Yosemite

When I upgraded to Yosemite like many people I have seen on forums there was a issue with upgrading the iPhoto library when upgrading to 9.6. Finally it looked like it had worked but now all of my photos do not appear in iPhoto. The files seem to be there still as the iPhoto library file is still1.26TB in size (i have a lot of photos). I have tried doing a full rebuild of the Library but it did nothing. I also purchased iPhoto Library Manager but this does not help either. Please can anyone help?
I am using iPhoto 9.6, OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) on a iMac (27-inch, Late 2013). The Library is stored on a "My Book Thunderbolt Duo", 8TB in raid 1 configuration.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Boot camp lost after upgrading to Yosemite from mountain lion

I lost my windows7 boot camp after I upgrade to Yosemite from mountain lion. When I press ALT when rebooting there is no more alternative to boot for window anymore. I did read some thread about this but my case is different since when I tried to type 3 steps(diskutil.......etc) as LonerT user answers it did not work. If you look at the GAP between GPT3 and GPT4 it is start/size of 782929176/37595880 but the NTFS header starts at 782929920 according to your Testdisk output shown here.

The difference is 782929920 - 782929176 = 744 bytes. You will need to delete the current GPT4 and recreate a new GPT4. Please stop if you see any error messages and post here.

2. This is a tedious process and you want to check after the second 'p'rint command that it looks reasonable, before the 'w'rite and 'y'es to confirm.
3. You will need to reboot after the change, because the disk you are booted from is the one being modified. Reboot will rebuild disk0s4 using the start/end you entered.
4. Run the dd command - sudo dd if=/dev/rdisk0s4 count=1 2>/dev/null | hexdump -C and check that the first line contains "R.NTFS".
5. Once you have a working GPT#4, a new hybrid MBR needs to be created which will overwrite what you see in your Fdisk output. This is also done using GPT Fdisk (Gdisk). Your numbers will look different than what are in the following example. In most cases, you will use the default except entry 4, which should have a 'y' for bootable flag.

6. a. Test 1 - Can you see your Bootcamp volume in Finder.

Lost data and apps after ipad upgrade

Just upgraded to iOS 5 with iPad1 and lost ALL apps ,, and worse yet .. all DATA is gone.
Everything appeared to proceed ok during the upgrade.
Lost critical data.
Suggestions?

YES... PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY! Apple??? Why is there NOT a BIG WARNING about upgrades when you log on. I have lost hundreds of notes that were all my passwords etc. to my property management business. I kept them on my IPad3 because Apple, I was told by Apple rep, was sooo stable I should put all my important data on it. Now I find it's gonna' cost me like $70 dollars to get my data! I found software that will fetch it and I can see it on the free trial but to get it back it will cost me! APPLE - YOU SHOULD HAVE A FIX that does not cost you users more money! I had just got approved from the budget committee to get 32 I pads for our sales teams and managers but NOT now. I have read that 74% of all users who upgraded have lost photos, notes and darn near everything else. What the......? PUT OUT A WARNING - BEFORE UPGRADING BACK UP EVERYTHING OR MY MAY LOSE IT! Just bad business and not something that a reputable company would do. Gotta go now and spend $70 bucks of my hard earned money on a system that lost half of my stuff on it and now freezes up ALL THE TIME, can't watch the news, can't run most apps correctly and sure can't watch You tube even. Reboots itself constantly and I REALLY wish I didn't have it. When my new android tablet gets here next week I may sell this **** thing on Craig's list.
