My lumia 920 bricked after lumia black update

I update my 920 to lumia black after update 920 freezes so i soft reset it but after reset no app works not even setting so i hard reset it threw vol. Up vol.down power and vol.down buttons but its remains as it is intead i lost my data plzzz... Help what should i do to fix it because my lumia 920 is useless now i can only use it as a paper weight

Even though the update process is fairly straightforward and safe sometimes it can go wrong which is never fun when it happens to you. Rule #1 when doing a backup in any case and on any device is to have a backup.
If the phone will not properly restart or reboot you need to get it to a Nokia Care Pointof Repair Facility wher ethey shoudl be able to fix this for you. See HERE for your options which may vary from region to region.

Lumia 920 locks up with Black Update

I'm using an unlocked Rogers (Canada) phone on T-Mobile (USA). My phone had been working fine with the Amber update but as soon as I updated to Black it started hanging and acting weird. These are the symptoms:
1. If I have a device pin setup it hangs as soon as I type in the pin or if I hit the emergency call button.
2. If I don't have a pin, most apps don't start. They say they are loading but after 30 seconds or so they drop back to the start menu.
3. It never successfully reboots, I have to use the soft reset key sequence (power + volume down) to get it to restart.
4. I see missed incoming calls but the phone gives no indication when you're actually calling it.
Things I've tried:
1. Soft reset.
2. Hard reset.
3. Flash to pre Black using Nokia Software Recovery Tool. (no longer possible since it downloaded the black update this morning)
4. Restoring backup after hard reset.
5. Picking all the defaults after a hard reset.
6. Changing the region on startup after a hard reset.
7. Changing the keyboard layouts (remove some, add a bunch). This the one setting I seem to be able to get to.
8. Uninstalled all apps I could (I can't see what games are installed).
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I'm in the US and the phone is Canadian so it's going to be a pain to send it in anywhere.

that's really a bummer.
I went through the same thing/similar when I updated my 920 to black.
I had to hard format and use the NSRT to reinstall the firmware completely 10-12 times until it finaly took the firmware correctly.
other than that, seems you have done everything you could to troubleshoot it.

Nokia Lumia 820 issues after Lumia Black update...

Before updating to the Lumia Black update:
1. Was able to connect the Nokia Lumia 820 to my home PC using Windows 8.1 and it was able to see the device and files on it as well as sync music from Windows Media Player to the device.
2. Was able to connect to the Nokia Lumia 820 from one of my Office PCs using Windows 8.0 and was able to see the device and files on it.
As well as to manually install Windows Phone 8 applications or install the Windows Phone 8 applications via Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate from either PC.
After the Lumia Black update, Neither PC can see files on the Nokia Lumia 820 nor can any application send files to the Phone's Memory Card or Second Memory Card. (SD Class 10)
Very frustrated with the Lumia Black update. Lumia Amber worked just fine.
I haven't changed anything as far as I know on my Nokia Lumia 820 device to cause said issues nor have I abused the device in any way.

Simply wanted to add 3 new audio tracks to the Music files via Windows Media Player but cannot even connect the device like it did less than 45 days ago when everything was working properly.
All my music files are on the SD Card because the file space needed is more than the 7.3 GB on the base memory for the unit. (Something like 8.1+ GB at the present time of 29.8 GB... which is the formatted size of the 32 GB SD Class 10 card.)
When the Nokia Lumia 820 is connected to my home Windows 8.1 computer, Windows knows about it but cannot finish the handshake to see the device and the 2 memory areas on the device.
Have to determine which programs that I have installed after the initialization that I want to restore.
The problem at the moment is that turning off the unit loses ALL Music Album Data but the songs are still there. This seems to have been caused by Lumia Black Update but not sure if that is true or not.
Have a lot of stuff to backup before resetting the device. Perhaps could upload everything to SkyDrive / OneDrive then restore the data after a full reset of the device.
I have all my cell phone contact data backed up but would like to backup all text messages too.
I have 2 custom applications that I have developed but are not yet setup using the Windows Phone 8 Development License as released products... that will be done soon.
Cannot backup the latest pictures on the phone... not many since the last backup but there are pictures that are not restorable that I would like to keep.
Would rather not have to do a complete reset but may have no choice.

Nokia Lumia 920 issues after latest update. Fix in...

Since the last update we are having massive problems on our Lumia 920 from ATT. Bad reception, losing Internet connection, etc.
We have over 30 920 deployed in our company. We did tests with and without the new patch and its like day and night.
Sitting in my office, i have 1-2 bars on the phone with updates, showing 4g, but cannot access any website.Plus constantly losing connection.
On the phone without update I have 2-3 bars, showing LTE and constant internet access.
It is horrible. We first thought it was related to the Access Point Software, but it is definitively the firmware.
Please fix asap. Not good advertising for those awesome phones.

This issue has already been covered on several threads on this forum. The update was found to cause issues on AT&T and was pulled part way through it's roll out. A fresh update is being prepared that fixes the issues. For more information contact AT&T or Nokia US.

Lumia 620: bluetooth problems since Black update

My Lumia 620 did pair correctly with my car via bluetooth. This is a Citroen C5 with NaviDrive 3D system.
However, since the Black update I have the following problems:
1) I can successfully pair the 620 once, but it does not reconnect after that.
2) When I try to switch-off bluetooth after a unsuccessful pairing trial, it does not switch-off completely: the small dots in the screen upper area keep on running and the bluetooth switch stays greyed-out.
3) When I switch-off the phone completely in this situation it often reboots instantly.
Is someone else recognising these issues?

We can't comment yet if this issue will be addressed by the Lumia Cyan WP 8.1 update, though SW updates are released to fix reported bugs and improve the features of the phone's OS. If resetting the phone didn't work, try restoring its software using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. See this link: Nokia Software Recovery Tool. The link for the recovery app will lead you to the Nokia UK website. Best to search it in the local Nokia support page: Way Finder - Nokia.
Note that this will wipe out all your phone's data, so making a backup is highly advised. Check this link for the steps on backing up your files: Nokia Lumia 620 - Back up and restore data on your phone.

Lumia 920 Disturbed after Black update

Once Lumia black came, i update my mobile. After that i am facing these issues
proximity sensor stop working.
Screen Rotation has stopped.
Camera app become crash whenever i try to use camera.
i tried to hardReset. And then download nokia suit from nokia site and try to install all software from scratch. First. 5mon it work fine after that again same problem.
i purchased my mobile from singapore. Currently i am in london. Can't go back. Even can check my mobile at UK nokia care because they refused because of international warranty . Surprise Nokia UK don't cover Nokia singapore product. If it will happen with nokia users then what gonna happen.
this is my business mobile. I started Lumia series when Lumia 800 comes...then Lumia 900 then 520, 720 and now 920. But i am really disappointed.

We understand your situation, terchoo. Since the issue started after installing Lumia Black, try to verify it the phone is successfully updated. Check if 'Lumia Black' shows up under Settings > Extras + Info. Try also to verify if all system applications are up-to-date. Since the camera won't work, just manually search the system apps in the Store or via Bing search. Check this link for the list of apps that needs to be updated: Nokia Windows Phone 8 App Updates

Ok so after the "Black" update on my Lumia 928 the flash decides to stop working,

and yes I checked all settings and reset camera setting, ended up doing a hard reset and it started working again.... Only to go out again a couple days later, For a month and a half old phone I'm sure am dissapointed with this one so tell me Verizon, what should I do? Honestly I'd just like to swap for another one as it has other glitches too.... It doesnt have a scratch on it so please give me some guidance here!!!!

Thanks to all of you, they did send me a B Stock "Like New" replacement but the flash works like a champ and it has no more problems than the new one did, sometimes it acts like im typing when i'm not and I have to shut it off and back on, and sometimes I go to unlock it and the home keys at the bottom light up but the screen doesn't, just usually have to give it a min or two and it whips itself back into shape, honestly I've worked for both Verizon and AT&T and have been an android guy for years. I'm really banking on Verizon pushing Windows Phone 8.1 to the Lumia 928 soon because if has half the improvements as Windows 8.1 did for my laptop ill be a happy camper. Lumia 521 Bricked was there an update pushed 2 days ago

I had a lumia 521 with developer preview, I hadn't done anything new to it and all of a sudden phone completely died. When i plug it in to the charger it tries to boot shows the nokia splash and than goes to the battery sign.
Here is what I have tried so far:
1. Replaced old battery with a new battery.
2. Tried charging with a new charger.
3. Tried Nokia Recovery Tool.
4. Tried calling nokia support but couldn't get in touch with someone who can even understand the basic issue
So far all the things I have tried have failed and the phone doesn't want to start, when not plugged in it is completely dead. When plugged in via wall charger or connected to computer via usb it boots but is stuck at the battery sign. At this point I am
assuming some update got pushed and just killed the phone. I was in the process of ordering a 1520.3 but had to cancel that pending this issue. I understand using the developer preview comes with risks but it is completely unacceptable that a update gets pushed
that would result in a unrecoverable device.

I understand that your iPhone is not booting up past the Apple logo. In this situation, I would recommend working through the troubleshooting steps located in the attached article.

If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Lumia 920 Stuck after Factory Reset

Following an update to multiple apps, my 920 screen was blank during calls and I could not hang up. So, I deleted all of the third party apps. The problem remained. So, I did a hard reset. The problem remained. So, I did a factory reset. The factory reset stalled for half an hour, so I did a hard reset. Now the phone is stalled at "NOKIA" in the start up process. Can anyone help, please?!

I have had the handset for 5 months now an nothing but problems..
Calls drop.
Phone hangs..
sometime screen blanks on call , sometimes not..
on call will switch to speaker with out touching it..
Music app is terrible ... ie(how do i play the newly downloaded songs with out having to keep going back and selecting the next new album... shocking)
how do i see my newly downloaded apps ie i download 7 new apps from a-z and then i have to try to scroll through all the apps to see them...
and now i factory reset it (which is under the about ...) and it is stuck... i dislike thei phone greatly....

New IPhone is a Brick - after new Software Update

Last night I synced my new IPhone 3G that I got this past July after lining up for 2 hours. Love it! However, it's been turned into a brick.
I synced with iTunes 7, using the correct cable with no dock, and it mentioned that there is an update for the iPhone software (2.1). So, duh, I applied it.
When it was done, the phone was dark, so I started it and got the image of the usb cable and a iTunes image, and iTunes said:
"iTunes must check the iPhone software update server to identify this device..."
I clicked "check"
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes"
I clicked "ok" - then clicked "restore".
"Automatically checking for iTunes and iPhone updates is disabled. Would you like iTunes to check for a new iPhone software update?"
I clicked "check".
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone "iPhone" to his factory settings?...."
I clicked "Restore and Update"
"extracting software....preparing iPhone for restore...."
"the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (13)."
TOAST
I loved this phone, and now it's a brick!

I had a similiar issue last night when upgrading my just purchased iPhone to 2.01. Itunes downloaded the new update but during the install I received a message stating "the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." I tried this 4 times and got the same results. My iPhone had a dark screen with icons of a cable and itunes on it. Well I called apple support waited for 30 minutes to get to a techinican. After explaining my issue he put me on hold for another 15 minutes then I mysteriously was transfered to AT&T. I was hot to say the least. I WAS able to fix this on my own. I originally was using an imac with iTunes 7.71 on it. I had a PC laptop with iTunes 7.70 (not 7.71). I plugged the iPhone directly to the PC (Not a USB hub). I was successful with the upgrade doing this. I upgraded 2 other iPhones that day and received the error 6 code. But after a second try they went through. I think there is an issue with iTunes 7.71 causing the failures during updates. Try to get your hands on a copy of iTunes pre 7.71. And ensure you are connecting the phone directly to the computer.

I used DOS but got a brick. No useful answer from support - they think I don't know how to clear CMOS. I wonder if they know any other words - they didn't read my request to the end. It is clear that no engineer is answering - simply some college girl.
I can use EPROM writer to flash the BIOS chip after taking it off, but there is the second flash chip. I need some technical advise.
Who can explain what chip is flashed during second flashing? What is flashed? I could repair the motherboard easily then

IPhone 4S is a brick after trying to update yesterday

My phone was almost out of juice yesterday afternoon and I did not have my AC Charger. I plugged it into the USB port on my PC and continued to try and work and Itunes popped up saying there was an update available etc. Updated it to the iOS 7 when it first came out but figured Ok Microsoft's updates all of the time so why not. followed the prompts to back up to iCloud, went through all of the ridiculous updating infomration, Credit Card on file etc. But when it was done my phone was stuck in RESTORE mode. I have tried every button pushing fix on the web. This is so frustrating. My phone worked perfect until IAPPLE/ITUNES got a hold of it. Never had a Microsoft's update ruin my entire computer.
I took it to the local tech center today and they told me I was just f'd and offered to sell me a new phone or charge me $200 for a warranty replacement. Said that all of the water thingies or whatever were tripped or something like that. 3 months ago someone spilt their coffee on the table and it got slightly wet. It did go out for a few hours but has been up and running perfectly, absolutely perfectly for over 3 months now. That is until I plugged it into the dang ITUNES thing. I am NOT going to pay for a new iPhone. Apple jacked it up, Apple needs to fix it. It is obvious that this is happening everywhere to all types of phones, iPads etc. It is all over the web.

AnjieAllen, shrug off the critic. As you said, you are not alone with this problem and I doubt it was caused by delayed damge from the coffee spill. As a matter of fact, the software update ruined my iphone 4s and after spending two days trying to fix it, including a trip to the Apple Store, searching for online tricks, and contacting Apple support, I gave up and bought a brand new iphone 5s. When I set it up the new iPhone and updated to the latest software, thinking what are the chances this would happen again to my brand new iphone. Well, it did!
So now I have two iphones stuck in recovery mode and nothing works to get them out of recovery mode. I have spent two and a half hours this afternoon online chatting with Apple support and they can not figure it out either. The fact is, Apple released software that has rendered their products useless and likely resulted in the loss of priceless data belonging to their customers. I hope we see an acknowledgement from Apple about this problem and what they intend to do to compensate and/or assist customers.

IPhone 4S bricked after 6.1 update - iTunes errors 21/1611

Yesterday my iPhone 4S asked me to install the iOS 6.1 update (via the Settings.app) "over the air". After downloading and preparing the update, the iPhone rebooted itself to start the update process.
Unfortunately, this is where it all went wrong. It seems like the iPhone update failed somewhere along this process. It is now stuck in "Recovery Mode", with the picture showing me to connect the phone to iTunes.
I have tried countless times restoring the phone via iTunes, on 4 different computers, and on Windows 7 and OS X.
Nothing works. The restore process fails during the "Preparing iPhone" phase.
Here's what happens every time:
I can see the phone being restarted.
The Apple logo shows up, and a little wheel in the bottom of the screen starts spinning
As soon as (usually even before) the progress bar shows up on the phone, the device suddenly shuts down
The iPhone reboots right back into recovery mode, asking me to connect to iTunes
I'm quite desperate at this point. I have followed all steps imaginable (including turning off Windows firewall and antivirus software), but even then the restore still won't complete. iTunes always gives me the same error: 1611.
When putting the phone into DFU manually, it gives me another error: 21.
Both seem to point to third-party security software interfering with the restore process.
However, having tried this on 4 different computers, I am 99% sure that this is not the issue. So far I've tried:
HP Laptop - Windows 7
Asus Desktop - Windows 7
2010 Macbook Pro 15" - OS X Mountain Lion + Windows 8 (Bootcamp)
2010 Macbook Pro 13" - OS X Mountain Lion
Also, I should mention that in Belgium there aren't any official Apple Stores where I can book an appointment at a Genius Bar. Is this 4S doomed?

Hasan123Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to downgrade to lower iOS versions even if I managed to get a restore going...

I have already tried restoring the phone on my Macbook Pro running Windows 8 Pro, with the latest version of iTunes, but unfortunately the same errors still pop up...

Antivirus and firewall are off, access to the Apple update verification servers is not the problem...
