My Mac air will boot up

I can not get my Mac sir to start

Just got one in my shop tonight. Here is where I am with it:
For me, the soft SMC reset did not work (Shift-Control-Option+Power button). So I reset the SMC by removing the back panel cover and unplugging the battery. With the battery unplugged from the main board, I connected the power adapter and it started right up. I didn't even have to hit the power button, which I believe is the default behavior after a hard SMC reset.
While still running, I then reconnected the battery. It showed up in the top bar as charged and so I unplugged the AC adapter and sure enough the MBA stayed running (battery works).
However, after shutdown - with the battery plugged back in - it once again will not start. So I pulled AC adapter, disconnected the battery connector from the board once again, waited a few seconds then plugged the AC adapter back in. It fired right up.
So at least in my case I can conclude that there is definitely an issue with either the battery itself or possibly one of the electronic components (capacitor/inverter/I'm not an electrician/). Will back the pictures up for the client and recommend sending it back to Apple for official battery replacement. Or she can risk something on eBAy or live with no battery.
Unit is a Mid 2011 MBA 1.7Ghz i5/4GB/128GB

  • Macbook Pro 2011 boots to Recovery disc or bootcamp only after successfully installing bootcamp on Mt Lion 10.8, the 3 harddiscs are there, but selectin Mac HD will boot to recovery disc

On my Macbook Pro 13.3" mid 2011 model, with Lion and bootcamp, upgrading to Mountain lion 10.8 hung for the whole night. It failed to boot up, I was panic, reinstall the OS in the hope it will repair the boot disc, but it locked up the macintosh HD.
I rebuilt OS without bootcamp from backed up image (Lion) then upgraded to Mountain lion, no problem at all. Used it for a couple of days, then installed bootcamp and restored the Windows 7 image from the backup. It's completed without any problem. It can boot up in Windows 7 and I changed startup disc in control panel to Mac HD, it can only boot from the recovery disc. Holding down the option key will show the 3 hard discs: Macintosh HD, Windows and Recovery 10.8, but selecting Mac HD always boots up by recovery disc. I have use disk utility from recovery disc to verify and repair Macintosh HD to no avail.
If I use only mountain lion, it will be OK.
Has anyone experience the same problem? Thank you.

  • Mac Pro will boot but won't restart.

When waking up or doing a soft boot my Mac Pro will chime and sound like it's booting but the display will never come on.
If I do a cold boot, or even hold down the power button to force it off and then boot it's fine. I've tried turning on and off and plugging and unplugging the monitor. I've repaired permissions and reset the SMC and PRAM. It's been happening for a while, but now I want to install MacFUSE and it requires a restart to finish installing.

    Which model Mac Pro? GHz?
    How much RAM?
    What display card? What display?
What USB devices (these have a strong reputation for interfering with sleep)
    What FireWire devices?
Have you run the diagnostic on the Installer DVD to rule out Hardware problems? Instructions are on the face of the DVD.

  • HT1338 my mac air will not turn on

help me get my mac air to turn on

Found this in another post -- it should help, assuming you've tried simply holding the power button for 15 seconds already.
As a first step you could try an SMC reset followed by a PRAM reset:
    SMC Reset
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer’s power cord and disconnect peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Reset PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • If I order a new mac air will it have os mountain lion preinstalled

The information on the Apple site is misleading, in tech specs it says software installed is os mountain lion but when I order and put it in the basket it says the software is os x lion. I have tried to use the help chat and they cannot guarantee that os mountain lion will be pre-installed on a new mac air.

You will probably get it with ML then, they may not be shipping from existing stock, i.e., your MBA may be coming from China.

  • My mac air will not connect to the internet. There is an exclamation point in the wifi icon and when i go into preferences i see that it is setting its own IP address. I have a macbook that is able to connect with no issue. HELP

My macbook air will not connect to the internet. There is an exclamation point in the wifi icon and when i go into preferences i see that it is setting its own IP address. I have a macbookpro that is able to connect with no issue. HELP

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
Use all SMB type names for wireless and base station.. Not apple type names.. this is more important since Mavericks.
I also recommend different names for the different bands.
    So for example.
TC name.. TCgenx (I use whatever the generation number is for the x.. eg TCgen4 or latest one TCgen5)
    WIreless name.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    TC5ghz for 5ghz
You can also set the channel manually.
If you still have issues.. start with no security and then if it fails to connect there is something seriously wrong with the laptop. Did you upgrade install Mavericks?? That can lead to driver issues.. I would recommend a clean install.

  • HT204150 Do I just take it as a given that contacts on an iPad and a Mac air will not sync?

Do I just take it as a given that contacts do not seamlessly sync between an iPad and a Mac Air?

If you've got all your ducks in a row, then they should sync.
Are they both signed into the same icloud account?
Are contacts turned on in icloud settings/system preferences?
Here's a test; log into the icloud account at icloud.com using a browser and lok at the contacts page.  If there, then one of the devices managed to get the data to icloud, but the other is not syncing down (again, check to be sure both devices are connecting to the right account and that all is turned on).
If there's no data on icloud.com, then neither device is syncing.  You must not have the settings correct.

  • Mac Air will not switch on again

My Mac Air went completely black a couple of weeks ago and would not turn on. I have tried both the 'fixes' recommended by Apple support that time but it happened again yesterday.
I've tried thier suggestion of; SMC reset (ctrl, shift, alt and power hold) and also RP SMC (alt, cmd,P,R power and wait for the two chimes) but neither bring it back to life.
Its only two and a half years old - I thought apple products were more reliable. Apple support oddly go home at the weekend so I'm stuffed until Monday.
Do you have any other suggestions I could try?
    Zoe

The same is happining to me! i really need to get my school work, but its not turnig on ive tried everything and i dont even hear the two chimes... i have lots of apple products and not all of them are THAT bad...altough my mac air isn't working properly any more.

  • MY MAC AIR WILL NOT TURN ON

My Mac air has suddenly decided not to turn on! Please help! My aunt gifted this to me and it does not have Apple care. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

    Try a SMC reset:

  • Wifi password on my mac air will not reset

after updating the OS software the wifi network is not recognizing my computer and it will not accept the password even though i have confirmed it

    Yes,
This has been a bit troublesome.
You can do either of two things,
    Change your Airport Name.
Open "Keychain Access"  then search for "airport" in the keychan program and delete all the "AirPort network password" entries that are associated with this particular Airport.
    This should resolve the problem.

  • How do I completely restore my Mac air

How do I completely restore my Mac Air?

Boot from the Reinstall Drive (USB thumb drive) that came with your MBA.
(Restart and when you hear the startup sound, hold down the C key until the gray pinwheel appears)
When the OS X window appears, select your language.
On the next screen, select Utilities from the Menu Bar.
To restore to an earlier point in time from a Time Machine backup, select Restore System from Backup
To make your machine look like it did when new, select Disk Utility, then select the system drive and click the Erase button.
This will reformat the drive and you can then reinstall the OS from the main menu.
