What did you update from? 10.6 or 10.7?
If from 10.6 or your machine was at 10.5 at one time, it might be too old/slow for 10.8, you might want to revert to 10.6 again.

Now a fresh install of OS X usually does wonders, this would mean you will need to take acurate account of your installed programs, passwords, export bookmarks and backup all your data to a external storage drive. Keep the boot drive data below 50% filled ideally, (not much for you apprantly, just reduce 50GB of data)

Write down your AppleID and password to reinstall 10.8
When your sure, then hold command r boot into Recovery, use Disk Utility to Erase (middle selection) the Macintosh HD partition and wait, it's going to map off fialing sectors. When done quit and reinstall 10.8 fresh and install programs and files from backup into the same named accounts.

Hey people. My Power mac takes on average 3mins 30 to start up after i updated from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 . Before it took on average about 50secs to start up and get a application running. Are any of you experiencing this problem. I have only used 50gigs of space. I have done system recoverys and this still happens
i have checked. it will have the have the white screen where you see the apple logo and the loading cursor. That lasts about 40secs. Then it will it will show the loading bar. Thats lasts about 30secs. then it will show my desktop background image. It takes about 40secs to load my desktop items. then it will take about a min after that to show my username,time,Country flag,Volume control and my wireless icon in the top right hand corner. I have done 4 system restores, my recovery disks start at 10.4.4 it will work fine all the way up until 10.4.8. Is there a major bug in the upgrade or what?

Speed has a lot to do with what is installed, installation of utilities that actually slow you down, such as MacKeeper, or any cache cleaning softawre. Installation of utilities that you don't need such as anti-virus or firewall software. Peer2peer software. Other devices sharing the same network can slow it down too, make sure your network is secure, and you know what is sharing the network. Some websites may be slower on Safari, and an alternative browser* is needed.

When you run out of real RAM you start writing to free hard disk space. This is paging in/out. This is much slower than using real RAM
Add more RAM Basics
Open System Profiler > Hardware
Copy the Serial number and model identifier
Under Memory in System Profiler, you'll see how many slots and what is installed. You need matching pairs. Most likely you will have to replace RAM you have installed unless you have 4 slots and are only using 2 slots.
Go to this page: http://support.apple.com/specs/
Copy the Serial number in the "Search Tech Specs" search box. This will take you to the info on your computer.
Next using the Identifier and with the knowledge of your exact model and how much RAM you can install, go to this site: (There are several sources for memory. This one has good prices and has the video showing how to install)

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

This problem is like an eternal issue you have.
Let's take a look my PCs (I am working with 2 PCs) specs here (it seems people like to ask about it):
Windows 7 64 Bit / Windows 8.1
4 GB DDR3 RAM / 8GB DDR3 RAM
Once upon a time, before upgrading my skype to 7.2.0.103 I found that the booting time for skype to runs on my PC was slow (it's about 3-5 minutes), well I don't really care about it until one day I choose to upgrade my skype to the latest version (today is 7.2.0.103) and hope that the issue will be fixed.
But guess what, it become worst than before. These are the issues I found on it:
Booting time extremely slow
Always (means 100%) freeze when opening a group chat
Often (not 100%, but it close to 100%) "connecting...." when transferring files
So, what should I do?
P.S. :
I was wondering whether it's due to the very very very long chat history I have. Yes, we're using skype here to work so almost all communication (the fast one) will be done in skype chat window.All iPhones require activation after a restoration and an iOS upgrade. There really was no reason to throw your deactivated SIM from AT&T away. You'll need an AT&T sim to activate that phone. It doesn't need to be active, however. Borrow one from someone to get your phone activated

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

After pressing 'shift' , mac become really slow!
I realy got crazy on my mac....
last year i found that my mac's "shift" key was kept being pressed
so i sent it to Apple,and they fixed it
but after about 2 days of normal status,my mac become incredible slow.....
I cant even do my typing normally...
but this time i let a friend of mine to fix it, and he removed the ox system i had,repalced with XP

but i didn't do much things in XP,cos i don't like it

does it still a hardware mistake with my "shift key" ? i would be really appreciate if u can solve my problem!!You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard (it is now at version 10.6.8) and see if this helps. This will also install a number of security updates to help protect you from potential viruses.
The few other things I can suggest to try are:
1) checking the hard disk by running "Verify Disk" in the Disk Utility program (see the Apple KB article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782 for instructions)
2) check and repair file access privileges (see Apple kb article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452)
3) make sure the Startup Disk System Preference shows the Macbook Air's hard disk is selected.

First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.
Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

My mac mini 2010 (2.4 Ghz, 8GB ram) is running really very slow after updating to Mavericks.
Clearly OneDrive is a pain... but had it running on ML as well, and though it is a memory and CPU hog, it never really slowed down the system.

After change to Mavericks my Mac become too slow e I can't use it because stays asking passwords for "talagent" and "messages agent" as icloud keys. I got changed the icloud password many times and still doesn't work. I can't open any program.

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
