My mac book air shuts down unexpectedly if i dont continuosly press a key r move the mouse why
Hi my name is Eric. A month ago my mac book air was in the bathroom with me and i guess moisture got in my apple. When i turn my apple on what happens is that is would turn on normally and run normally but would have to keep tapping a button or keep moving the mouse continuously, If i do stop doing either or my macbook air would shut off . I could use the internet and run programs. People are telling me its the Harddrive but its an expensive fix. I just wanted to know if that is the real problem or is there something else i could do
It could be any number of things... check your battery status and energy control settings... if your battery is old and doesn't hold a charge well energy saver might power-down to prolong life. Does this behavior occur when you are plugged into a wall outlet?
You could have a corrupt Energy Saver .plist file (preference file) often when Apps behave strangely it can be a corrupt .plist file. Trashing the
It might be a shorted top case keyboard (your description alludes to liquid damage - did liquid touch/enter the machine or was it excessive humidity?)
It could be a hardware issue (corrosion build up).

Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave email running. Is n't it supposed to just sleep and awaken whe the cover is reopened? Instead, I have to boot it. Any idea what the problem is? I am unaware of any problem, just close the cover for safety.
Well I don't know anyone that closes the cove and leaves it for Hours... But try going to System Prefrences > Energy Saving > Uncheck Put Hard Disk to Sleep.

My Mac book pro Shuts down unexpectedly
This problem started barely last night, when I was using my Mac book pro when suddenly it shut down. The first thing that came up to my mind was that it was a battery issue, but I have notice that the laptop only shuts down when I type something in the keyboard. Could this be caused by the keyboard, or is a battery issue, or is it something else more serious?
Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
Also, note the exact time the issue happens and check your System logs in your Console application for clues to the cause.

Mac book pro shut down unexpectedly
After this update (Lion 10,7,2) ,i still have the same problem Each time i use mission control or after the second atempt i get the black screen, mac is restarting and so on. Is this a Lion problem ?
If your on 10.5 like your signature says, Apple isn't issuing security or stability updates for your OS X version.
I've seen a lot of posts from 10.5 users today, I suspect malware has been unleased.
http://ps-enable.com/articles/diginotar-revoke-trust
All you can do is erase and reinstall, or archive and install by holding c and booting from the 10.5 disk.
You might want to upgrade to 10.6, it will run your 10.5 software mostly, just a update.
10.7(or 10.8 this summer) will require a newer machine, newer third party hardware and newer software to work with it, your 10.5 software and older third party hardware will/likely/may not.

i was trying to download windows 7 on mac book air 10.8.2.seems like i didnt copy my windos disk on the usb properly at the begining,so after the boot camp steps the screen is black and telle me to put the write disk.
eventually i made a coorect usb windows 7 and put it back to continue as it was saying so,but there is no change and the screen still is dark and says no bootable disk ,insert.
how to solve the problem?Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea. -

i recently received a mac book air 11 inch for christmas ... i beliehve it was bought in the states from my father i was unaware of the specs until i opened and read it... and i was wondering if i can still do the upgrade to 8gb ram and bigger flash drive.. is this possible and for how much? its only a week old.
Your 14 days are up, however you could take your case to Apple Inc. regarding same,
however those are the stipulations.
RAM cannot be upgraded however, period, its permanent on the logic board after mfg.
As for the SSD (solid state drive), upgrading same is a bad premise 9 times out of 10.
No notebooks is a mass storage device, and you need an external HD for data redundancy and backups regardless.
data that is static on your SSD and not used very often has no logical reason to be ON the notebooks, and best saved on a superslim external HD ($60)
SSD are very expensive, even a small one, HD are cheap as dirt and users are recommended to have one regardless for many good reasons. -
ollowing problem: I have around 600 contacts on my iphone and Ipad and would like to sync with contact list on my mac book air but its not working and whatever I do I get stuck on the 44 contacts I have on my mac contact-list. Please Help!!!! thanks
First, be sure that the contacts on the devices are in the "icloud" section and not the "On my iPhone" (or iPad) section of the contact listings/groups.
Missing contacts:
Here's a test to perform - using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and go to the Contacts page. If most of them are gone, then they are gone.
If they show up, then the problem is that your device is not connecting to the Contacts database on icloud.
On the device, go to Settings>icloud. Be sure icloud is on and using the right ID. If not, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Delete Account - this just disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost. Then log back in using the correct ID. ALSO - be sure the Contacts are turned on (on the same screen).
Note: Contacts are not part of an iCloud backup, since they are part of contacts database on iCloud's servers. So performing a restore will not help.
Contacts are gone from icloud.com.
Then they have been deleted. There are many reasons for this. One possibility is that someone else is using the same iCloud account (family member, etc.) and they deleted contacts, thinking they did want them on THEIR device. How to get them back? Unfortunately, an iCloud backup does not include any of the sync databases, like contacts, notes, calendars, reminders, etc. because the data is already stored in these databases. Your only hope for restoring the data is if you had that data on a computer (like a mac's Contacts, Calendars, etc.) and that data was backed up using whatever backup software you typically use (e.g. Time Machine on a mac). Just restore the data files back to the computer. Other than that, I'm afraid the data is gone. -
MacBook Air shuts down unexpectedly
MacBook Air (2012) keeps shutting down unexpectedly. And then shuts down during start up several times before it works again.
I was getting an "Error: shrinkdb" message in console for a while.
I tried reinstalling Yosemite which did nothing. I also tried downgrading to Mavericks which also did nothing.
I've verified/repaired permissions and the disk several times successfully with no change.
I've also got the message "unlink of file /users/***/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/fsCachedData" in console.
Also when repairing permissions I've gotten this message: warning: SUID file "system/library/coreservices/remotemanagement/ardagent.app/contents/macos/ardag ent" has been modified and will not be repairedThese instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway. -
Mac Book Pro shuts down suddenly
I have been using my mac book pro without problems. All of a sudden I cant move the mouse anymore and the computer shuts down. It will restart itself with a message that reads something like your computer is restarting in 15 seconds or so but click anywhere to get in. Its just weird. I dont see any problems other than it does say I need to service battery. So is this the intial problem or is it something else? What can I do? Am I damaging my computer if I need a new battery? Help please....!
first if you are getting message that your battery needs service, you want to get it looked at either by going to apple store or service provider.
try doing an SMC reset, the following article tells how:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
after this reset restart the computer and see if it works normally if it doesn't see below.
second regarding the restart of your computer, it could be a kernel panic. the following article tells how to troubleshoot this issue:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
if after following this article the mac continues to restart try running the apple hardware test to see if there is a hardware issue:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
if none of the above steps resolve your issue i would take to apple store or service provider to have it serviced. -
What can I do to sync Mac Book Air and iPhone 5 calendars if the iTunes message says that 'the sync server failed to sync iPhone'?
Thanks,
JulianRead the KB. Earlier today I had a fail to sync - I closed my Calendar app and the reopened and all was good.
Sometimes just closing the app the relaunching is all it takes. At other times a reboot of the Mac is all that is needed.

Why won't my Mac Book Pro shut down?
My Mac Book pro isn't shuttting down. I've clicked the apple icon on the left > shutdown. But nothing happens it just shows this rainbow wheel for a few seconds. I can't also control my volume and screen brightness with my keys any more and system preferences is not responding.. Help! Please!
Thank you!Alright.., I will try this and hope i´ll do it right. My (a little older ) MacBook Pro has the same problem, it just wont shut down. Things works kind of fine until I shall shut it down, cause then the wheel will spin and spin and spin (and it goes to sleep still spinning), so it must be some corrupted files or app that is stuck. I just bought MacOs10.6.3 to reinstall or recover the harddrive, but I´ve never done these things on a Mac before. I have formated in Windows alright, but I am worried about the drivers, I dont know how to back them up! ??? Where do I find them? I hope I dont have to wipe the disc out fully, that it helps with just some cleaning up. I will come back after my "operation".. please wish me good luck! I really dont want it to crash completely.. Thank you for all the information I had here. See you soon.. '
