My Mac book pro does not want to stay powered on what do I do?, My Mac book pro does not want to stay powered on what do I do?

When I go to turn on my Mac pro the apple goes on the screen with a bar under what do I do

Boot from your installation disc (if running Mac OS 10.6.8 or earlier) or from your recovery partition (if running Mac OS 10.7 or later; command-R at startup.) Launch the Disk Utility application and select the icon of the internal drive (not the boot volume below it.) Check the SMART status of the drive in the lower part of the window. If it's anything other than "Verified," the drive has to be replaced.
Otherwise, partition – don't erase – the internal drive. This operation will destroy all data on the drive. Create a single partition with the default options. Then install the Mac OS. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. After doing that, run Software Update as many times as needed to install all available updates.
Even if the SMART status is normal, your drive may be failing, or you may have some other hardware fault. If anything like this happens again, you certainly have a hardware fault. In any case, you must back up your data, or you'll lose it all, sooner or later.

A PowerPC Mac, if that's what it is, won't be able to see an Intel Mac's formatted data.  Also ExFat formatting is not supported by 10.6.3 or earlier.  I would try viewing the backup on another Intel Mac with at least 10.6.4.  If it isn't there, then the backup never really took place.  I much profer a hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • My (non Unibody) Mac book pro late 2007/08 does not want to turn on.

    Hello folks..
Last night I was working on my laptop and it started to run hot.. However, today I'm trying to boot up the computer and it will not turn on.  I see the little LED light undereith the bottom part of the laptop light up and I hear something initiating, but it wont turn on.... Also, I did a upgrade to a larger hard drive (750gigs) early this year, it's been working great, but now I have this happening.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Jose, try a SMC/PRAM reset. This issue may fall under the failed nvidia 8600M GT graphics card issue which requires a logic board replacement. When did you buy the macbook pro? The nvidia replacement program includes a free repair fofr MBP's purchased 4 years from the purchase date.

  • Photoshop 5.1 does not open up after upgrading to Yosemite on a 2009 mac book pro

Adobe Photoshop 5.1 does not work after installing upgrade Yosemite.  I have a mac book Pro - 2009

Have seen CS3 (I have) mentioned as working with Maverick/Yosemite
Current Photoshop is creative cloud - you do not have to purchase all elements - instead of lump sum, Adobe charges a monthly license fee - the software resides on your mac - and the mac has to check in once a month to keep the license going - updates are part of the deal.
CS6 apparently is still available if you want to pay the lump sum for an upgrade.

  • My mac book pro does not start but has error message with a question mark on screen. took it in and was told probably the hard drive as could not reconize it so bought new one but still not connecting.what do i do

My mac book pro does not connect but shows an error message with a question mark on the screen.I took it to a retailer that said it was not reconizing the hard drive. He said i needed a new hard drive but it may be something else as well but he was sure a new hard drive would fix it.So putting faith in someone who deals with them i purchased a new hard drive to find it was still not working although he said the computer did know reconize the hard drive and i may have to send it away to get it checked .After already paying 120 pounds for a new hard drive and they wanting another 80.00 pounds to diagnose it i am a little sceptical.
That's why i am interested on anyone's help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • Just completed a clean install of CS6 Photoshop on my Yosemite Mac Book Pro and the Adobe Application Manager does not work and cannot install a fresh copy from Adobe

Just re-installed a fresh copy of CS6 Photoshop on my Yosemite Mac Book Pro and somehow the Adobe Application Manager does not work and therefore cannot verify my copy.  What should I do?
I get a message saying that Adobe Application Manager may be damaged and that I should install a new version of AAM.  But after downloading a fresh copy of AAM and doing the install, the program (AAM) still will not install.  It is like an infinite loop!
    Please, someone help!
    Thanks!

    HI gener7!
I'm sorry but I am not on Creative Cloud.  I'm still on CS6 and it was the Adobe Application Manager that wasn't working and I could not install the update to this application.  My AAM version is:  8.0.0160
The link you provided was the update that I wanted to install but it does not work.  A window shows up during that install that says:
    We've encountered the following issues.
Installer failed to initialize.  Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem.
and then the link to the Adobe Support Advisor which leads to a "Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued" page.
    Thanks!

  • Help My mac book pro does not start

i have a huge problem becauce i cannot start my mac book pro, i turn on and apear the gray screen with apple logo and round progresive bar, but just not have any change it cud be hours or days its the same, i already try to restore it by the comands (command+R)  or (shift+caps lock) when i turn on my computher but alwais same logo screen, please i need help maby im doing someting wrong

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat Step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to older Macs (not current models) that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery. Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. If you can't get to an Apple Store, go to another authorized service provider.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. The following is general information on iTunes sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 and the following is a previous discussion where the post by Andreas Junge helped others that had a problem syncing audiobooks: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20052732#20052732

It won't show up on your Apple TV until it is fully downloaded into iTunes on your computer, have you done this.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...
    thanx

  • 2010 Mac book pro, every time I do something remotely straining, i.e. open up league of legends, screen goes black, power light stays on but nothing works. Its been doing it since I downloaded lion, I just want to know how to resolve it? Come on apple.

I’m going into my third year of graphic design and I’ve had this laptop since mid 2010. I can’t use any of my adobe programmes fluently without it shutting down or play any games. I'm 2 grand into my overdraft and don’t come from a wealthy background, I saved up for about 2 years to get the laptop to help me with my studies and I certainly didn’t pay nearly 2 grand for something that looks nice that I can go on Face book on.
I’ve looked at various threads and posts and it seems lots of people have the same problem but no resolution. Please don’t comment if you have the same problem because I’m trying to get this sorted out not build a group of friends with **** laptops. I think this problem needs to be addressed and apple need to stop ******* ignoring the minority of 2010 Mac book owners that haven’t got a heavy back pocket to fix the glamorised laptop when it ***** up after a year of buying it. Its supposedly a high powered machine, I shouldn’t have to cack myself every five minutes over whether opening a certain programmes going to shut down my computer. Its affecting my education and patience.
This is the error message that occurs about 8 times a day when it does it. Surely someone can make sense of it.

To operate your computer with an external monitor attached and the display closed:
1 Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to your MacBook Pro.
2 Connect the power adapter to the MacBook Pro and a power outlet. Check that the power adapter light is on.
3 Close the MacBook Pro display to put the computer to sleep.
So when your lid is closed your laptop  goes to sleep. This is expected behavior.

Hello Teddy53149 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
    Follow this procedure:
Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
As they recommend and as always when you're messing with administrator accounts back everything up first.
