My mac book pro is stolen. What can i do?

My macbook pro is stolen. What can i do? Is a mac pro traceable? Are you assurd against theft?
Plz help.

Sorry to hear about your Macbook, You should contact the police and may a report.  The MacBook is not traceable unless you have some type of software installed that can perform a trace.  You should change all of your password for items that they may have access to i.e. iTunes as soon as possible.

I cant start My Mac, what can i do To get it To start up again. When i push the powerbutton i can hear à click but nothing happends.

Since you can't even turn you machine on - and you don't say if you're running Lion or Mountain Lion which both have Recovery partitions - it's impossible to diagnose your problem over the Internet. If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion, see if you can boot into the Recovery partition by holding down the Command and R keys while booting. When there (if you can get there) use Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair your hard drive.
If you're not having any luck with the Recovery partition, boot with the installation disc that came with your MacBook Pro and try running Disk Utility from it.
If you cannot do anything above, try running the Apple Hardware Test (if you can). If you're able to run the test, note any errors that might appear.
If all of this fails, you're just going to have to break down and get your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP. Machine may be fried.

I'm very sorry to hear about this theft. I don't think there's anything you or Apple can do unless you took advance preparations.
Read the article "Employee Thoughts: Protecting Your Machine in Case of Theft" in this newsletter for the sorts of things one can do in advance of a theft:

Unfortunately, there's little you can do at this point other than start changing all your passwords and hoping the police get lucky.

That would seem to contradict Apple's official policy posted here:

If you have lost or found an Apple product, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report it. Although Apple does not have a process to track or flag lost or stolen product, you can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.

    Yes. Update to iTunes 10.3.1
Then go to the iTunes Store and click Purchased "new" under Music Quick Links on the right side of the iTunes window.
You can re download your purchased content from the next window.

  • My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it

My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • 2011 Mac Book Pro Dual Monitors - what's better, a small TV or LED monitor?

I have a new 15" Mac Book Pro with thunderbolt. I am setting up for some Final Cut editing, and was looking into a second monitor for full screen preview.
What is ideal??? Mini display port out via HDMI or should I go with mini to DVI?
If HDMI is fine, then what is the difference between using a LCD television and using a PC monitor?? Costco has a Samsung 27" 1080p LCD TV and a Samsung 27" monitor with HDMI for roughly the same price ($250).
Any opinions what would work better?
The monitor may occasionally double as a TV or be pulled onto a shoot as a camera monitor, in which case, maybe the LCD TV is better. It also will be used as a full screen preview monitor for Aperture still photo editing.
    Thanks

    >>  You need a broadcast signal going to the HDTV from the MBP.  <<
Are you saying that if you want to use the TV to evaluate the broadcast quality of the video then the MBP does not have that capabilty?
Are you also saying that if you just want to display the video on the TV then you can use the HDMI output of the MBP?

  • My mac book pro runs very slow, can I make it run faster?

I have a 4 month old Mac book pro. granted, its just an i5 2.4
It seemed to be pretty quick when I first bought it.  but it started slowing down.
So I put 8 gigs of ram into it.
but it still runs painfully slow.
I spent the day putting files in the trashbin. Today I am deleting them perm.  BUt even the empty function is slow.  It can take 2 or 3 seconds to delete a single file. Right now, the process has been stuck on the same file delete for almost a minute.
I have run disk utils, and it came back instantly as fine.
    So, I have 4 questions.
1... is there a check list to improve speed.
2... It there a utiltiy program I should run to confirm my files.  I have uninstalled a number of programs. Perhaps they were not uninstalled properly?
3... I understand that there are some disksweep tools to stay away from.  Especially the free once.  Can I get a list of the bad players
4... I am thinking of replacing the Hard Drive with an ssd/hard drive combo.  they seem to be getting cheaper, and I have heard some good thinkgs about them.  I know it would void my warrentee, butcan I get some stories about the transition.
    thanks

  • Mac Book Pro 2.13 17" can only boot up in Safe Mode

I have a 4+ year old Mac Book Pro 2.13 Intel Core 2 Duo 17" and it's primarily been used for heavy graphics usage it's entire life. (Adobe CS Suite etc). A few weeks ago I was watching a video, Hulu, and the entire screen froze.  Since it was none responsive I force powered off.  waited a few and restarted.  I got to the Grey screen, Apple logo, and after 30 sec the screen went to all grey and no further.  Tried it several times, powering off, removing battery, resetting PRAM, all to the same result.
    Things that DO work:
Can boot in Target Disk mode and mount the disk on another computer.  Ran Disk utility and all check out.
Can boot in Safe mode but screen shows some video artifacts.  Light red squares all over the screen.
Can option boot to choose a disk although see the same result as above description.
    Things That DONT work:
Booting from CD fails at same location as OS boot
    Booting using Hardware Check Disk
I haven't visited an apple store yet for this issue since I'm hoping to repair myself once I narrow down the problem.
I'm guessing it's the power supply but not sure.  It does get hot so guessing something is wonky.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Been reading a little and the Mac Book Pro may not have a power supply in the traditional sense so it may not be replaceable. Hmm

  • Mac Book Pro (15", late 2009) Can't Enter Password

Suddenly, our new Mac Book Pro will not sign on to our home airport network.
Whenever we try to activate airport and log on, we receive the same error message: password invalid.
We have an AirPort Extreme (802.11n) using WPA2 Personal. We completely reset it after this problem arose, but the problem persists.
Our other Mac Book Pro logs on with no problem, as does our iMac.
All the software on the problem Mac Book Pro is up to date, as is the firmware on the Airport Extreme.
We are at our wits end. Ideas?
    Thanks.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.
