My Mac Book Pro suddenly will no longer connect to the Internet at my house. Help?

My Mac Book Pro suddenly will no longer connect to the Internet at my house. My son's MacBook connects just fine. My MacPro connects at work, at Starbucks, etc. just fine, but not at my house. My son's however has no problem whatsoever. I assume that since his computer connects that the router and modem is not the problem. And since my computer connects everywhere but here . . . . it is not a hardware issue. When directly connecting my MacBook Pro to the modem or router the problem was the same. . . no connection. Help?

From the menu bar, select
           ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.

Generally if Firefox can't connect, but other applications can, it's a configuration problem with a [[Firewalls|software firewall]], either one you installed yourself, one that was included with other security software, or the built-in Windows Firewall.

In Safari, press on the Bookmarks icon and select History.  Then press on Clear History at the top of that menu, and see it there is any improvement.
If not, try unplugging your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.

    Hello dchoffa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I would start with this troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
If the above troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, I would next try the troubleshooting in one of the other sections down toward the bottom that fits your scenario.

  • My Macbook Pro suddenly won't stay connected to the internet.

My Macbook Pro recently has had problems staying connected to the Internet. Our other Macbook Pro is having the same problems. I have already spoken with with our ISP, AT&T. After trying several things, they said that it may have to do with Safari and that they couldn't suggest any settings changes to our browser because it might disqualify any warranties that we have on our Notebook if another company makes changes to it. I've spent hours and hours trying to resolve this and it's driving me nuts. Also my wireless HP Printer won't stay connected either. Not long ago AT&T sent us a new modem/router (all-in-one), that is why I called AT&T to see if it was the new modem. But come to think of it, I had called AT&T because of this connectivity issue and now I'm thinking that it wasn't them at all. Maybe it has to do with Apple. I'm a Apple lover, so please help!!!

Also my wireless HP Printer won't stay connected either.
Does that mean it won't stay connected to the network, or it's not reachable from your Mac? There's a difference.

  • I recently installed the 5.5.3 AirPort Utility update and my airport will no longer connect to the internet.

I recently updated my macbook's AirPort Utility to 5.5.3 and it will no longer connect to wireless networks.  First let me explain everything I have done already, I have reset my router, and tried on other's (my friends and my schools) networks.  I have been able to succesfully connect to my friends wireless (router is made by netgear), but when i try to connect to my network (WRT54G linksys router) and my schools network (im unaware what they use for routers) I am unable to connect, and my AirPort will proceed either state it does not have an IP address and will assign itself one and will not connect to the internet.  It will connect to the network with an IP, but will be unable to connect to the internet with the browser claiming DNS lookup failure.
yes, I have deleted and changed my location,
           deleted the selected service.
           tried resetting my router
           cleared my PRAM / NVRAM
installed the newest firmware onto my WRT54G
           Renewed my DHCP lease
made sure my Configure IPv4 is using DHCP
and theres a few more but i'm forgetting them.
Any suggestions on why the 5.5.3 update might of screwed up my airport?

If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.
    Good luck

  • My 3000H will no longer connect to the internet via my cable modem - help please.

I have 3 computers and a media server on a Linksys router with a Comcast cable modem. Everything AOK. 3 weeks ago my Lenovo 3000H shut down and rebooted for no reason. Then I began getting popups while I was on the internet saying that I needed to click on a button to make a dial-up connection. I would hit X or Cancel to make it go away. It happend more frequently and other related popups started, but I could close them and continue normally. Last weekend It happened again but I lost my connection to the internet and it would not reconnect. Now I get a big error message "Connecting through Wan Miniport(PPPOE)... Error 815: The broadband netowrk connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding. This could be caused by and invalid value for the "Service Name" field for this connection. Please contact your ISP and inquire about the correct value for this field and update it in the Connection Properties..
I called Comcast. They don't have a clue what Error 815 is. I have changed every cable, rebooted the modem, router and all computers countless times, and reset the modem per Comcast. I have taken the router out and connected directly into the Lenovo. I have gone through every screen related to broadband connection to no avail although, being a beginner, I see screens that I have no clue what they do.I have a couple of friends and a Comcast fellow who tried to walk me through the steps they thought would restore my connectio. No luck.
Can anyone walk me through the necessary steps to get me back to ground zero and then through the steps to reestablish my broadband connection?
    Help Please?

  • New ipad will no longer connect to the internet.

This is not a network problem - all my other devices work fine and are connecting (including iphone, MacBook, girlfriends "new" ipad). Mine worked fine for months then suddenly, i get the wifi signal but in settings, you just see the spinning gear - not the check mark. When you try to open a web page, it just says "not connected to the internet"
This is the second time this has happend with the 3rd generation ipad.  I had an ipad 1 for years and no probs, then i upgraded to the new one and it stopped connecting after a month or two. PC World said they had a few people report the same problem so just gave me a refund. Bought a replacement new ipad at Apple and now the same thing has happened to that one.  I guess i could take it back to apple but surely there is a fix for this?

I should add that i have also done:
    - reset (holding two buttons)
    - updated software to latest IOS
    - done a full restore to original settings
None of this has solved the problem.

  • After replacing the logic board in my Macbook Pro it will no longer connect to the App Store.

I recently had to replace the logic board in my early 11 Macbook Pro (first gen i7).  With the release of Yosemite just a few weeks away I am trying to update from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks.  I'm afraid if I don't after this update it will become much harder.  I always lived by the rule if it ain't broke and for a long time Snow Leopard worked very well for what I needed to do.  All my software is current and there are no updates pending.  All my Keychain Access System Roots Certificates are good and I have no problems getting into iTunes.  I thought it might be something on Apples end but after 36 hours it's still the same problem.  When I try to open the App Store I get this:
Any ideas.  I don't use the App Store that much but until this I had never had this problem before.
    Thanks for the help.

  • HT4623 My iPhone will no longer connect to the internet or download my mail from iCloud.  The software is OS6 and I have plenty of storage space on the phone and iCloud.  I have checked all the obvious stuff in settings and can't resolve the issue.

Since late September my emails stopped arriving on my iPhone.  Access to the internet via Safari now only ends in a message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"  I don't recall changing any settings and have checked the settings many times to try to figure out whats happening but without success. Ideas anyone?
    Thanks

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • I just updated my iPad to the iOS 6. My iPad will no longer connect to the Internet.

Help! My wifi says its connecting and then immediately goes off.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Mozillla will no longer connect to the internet. Chrome and IE connect fine.

Everytime I open Mozilla it says I can't connect to the internet, but other browsers load it fine. I like Mozilla, but if this is going to be an ongoing issue, I'd rather not use it anymore.

That's it. downloaded 8 and it won't connect.

Usually caused because your firewall is doing its job and does not recognize the new version of Firefox

  • Safari no longer connects to the internet

I upgraded to OS Yosemite in my iMac (must be approaching 4 years old) and everything has been working fine.  Had a couple of applications where they closed unexpectedly, but nothing major and things have continued as they always have.  Apps have also automatically updated.   As of today, Safari will no longer connect to the internet and I keep getting the classic "the server unexpectedly dropped the connection" blurb and I kept being told that a disk that I hadn't put in the machine is not being recognized.
I'm typing this on my MacBook Air so I know that Safari can work fine (also having no problem with my iPad or iPhone) and there is no issue with my ISP' modem (I'm with Virgin Media), connector or Netgear wireless router.  Tonight I have performed a recovery install and now I have this annoying message saying how I need a particular Java plugin, which I can't sort out because Safari can't connect to the internet.  I have also performed a router reset, without remedy.
Logically, as I see it, the issue lies with Safari, and due to it being the only internet access on my iMac, I can't even download Firefox or access the App Store so looks like I can't update.  A friend is also having the same issues with his iPad, so I know this isn't just my iMac
Looking for some answers here?  Anyone?
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
