  • IPhone 4S power button stuck in down position

I just got 3 iPhone 4S's for Christmas for my kids through Sprint.  I am having a problem with one of the Power buttons stuck in the down position.  Sprint won't swap out the phone because they say I "ordered" them more than 14 days ago, even though I activated them on Dec. 25th.  So, now I have to drive 2 hrs to an Apple Store.  WHY????? Why can't sprint swap out this phone?  Why do I have to drive two hours to get to an Apple store so they can swap it out??

Apple will cross ship you a replacement. They will require placing a hold on your credit card, but you will not be charged so long as you return the old one.
As for the drive, I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I make the drive from West of Cleveland, OH to near Pitsburgh every few months to take the wife to the outlet malls where there's no sales tax on clothing. I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing that my wife usually manages to buy enough that I save enough in sales taxes to cover the cost of gas back and forth...

  • Volume button stuck in down position

my volume button is stuck in the down position on the + side.  How can I fix this?  Is there a fix for this?  Appreciate any help.

I had a broken home button within 6 months. It was replaced under warranty. Now I have a broken volume up button less than a year later. They want $65 to fix with 90 day warranty. This is a major defect and they should have recalled these units. It is insane that they are still ignoring this problem and telling people to pay to have it fixed. I'm filing a complaint against Apple.

  • Track pad Stuck in down position

I just got back home from school and was carrying my Macbook in my backpack. when I got home I took it out and realized that the trackpad is stuck. I've been using it all day and all of a sudden its stuck? How can I fix it?

If no longer under warranty you can attempt to clean it or destick it yourself through any of the online tutorials. Be careful you don't fry yourself on a capacitor though.
Also just to confirm this is a hardware problem where the button won't jump back up? otherwise try restarting etc. etc.

  • Trackpad mouse is stuck in down position

I have a Powerbook G3 Pismo whose mouse has stopped working. Even thought the mechanical switch under the case is not being pressed down, the system thinks the mouse is being permanently pressed down ("clicked"). For example, when I boot the system, the DVD tray pops out. Then if I let the PB continue to boot to the OS, the mouse can be navigated around the screen, but clicking has no effect. If I connect an external mouse before booting, the external mouse works okay. But if I connect the external mouse after the system has booted, the right button performs as a default left mouse click. I've tried using compressed air to blow away any dust that may be in the underlying circuit cards in the G3, but have had no success.
How do I get the internal trackpad mouse working? Do I need to replace a mouse controller card?

    Joe,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
The simplest procedure to get you back up and running is to disconnect the orange trackpad ribbon cable from the logic board, then use a USB mouse. It is really quite simple:
    1. remove all power
    2. lift off the keyboard (lay it face down on the palm rest without disconnecting it)
    3. carefully disconnect the connector from the logic board
IFixit has good disassembly guides; here is the Pismo:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Pismo/6/
This page shows the orange trackpad ribbon cable slightly to the left of the trackpad next to the edge of the palm rest (click on the bottom photo to enlarge):
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Pismo/PRAM-Battery/6/4/Page-2/Heat- Shield
The only permanent fix is to buy a top case with all the parts and iFixit also has those.

    kj.arm,
which model MacBook Pro do you have, and which version of OS X is installed on it?
If you’re currently booted into Windows on your MacBook Pro, restart Windows in the normal way, but hold down an Option key once you hear the startup chime — that will put you in the Startup Manager, which will show you an icon for each available bootable OS. Use the arrow keys to select your OS X partition, and press Return; that will boot OS X. Once you’ve logged in, select the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences. If the padlock icon in the lower left of the window is locked, click on it (and provide the appropriate password) to unlock it. You will see a set of bootable OS icons to choose from for which OS you would like to boot from by default; presuming that you prefer to boot from OS X by default, select the icon that corresponds to your OS X partition, and press the “Restart…” button. It should now default to booting into OS X.

my touch pad on mac pro is hard and make noise

Do you have another mac to compare? Is it just yours, or you just find them hard and noisy in general?
You can enable tap-to-click, where you won't need to "press" it, you can just gently tap to click in System Preferences > Trackpad > Tap to click.

The touch pad on my Mac book Pro is very sensitive and causes changes without hardly touching it. Can this be changed or does it need replacement?

    Touchpads are just that, touchpads.
You touch it and something happens unfortunately, you can't rest your fingers on it while your waiting to do something else or it triggers a response.
You either have to train yourself to remove your fingers and keep them suspended, causing wrist, arm and hand pain, or plug in a standard mouse where nothing happens until you press the button, like years of ergonomic experience has shown is a much superior method.
Touchpads are likely less expensive to produce and breakdown less often under warranty, so just like less expensive to produce glossy screens, it's a cost cutting measure they were  incorporated into our devices and required users to adapt to sweeps, gestures and other useless actions for little benefit.
I've owned my Early 2011 MacBook Pro for a year now and have only used the trackpad once, the mushy keyboard perhaps only a couple of dozen times. Preferring external devices where I can rest my digits and nothing happens until I apply pressure or use a scroll wheel.
Needless to say my keyboard area is in brand new condiiton, remains covered from the original packaging, protects against dirt and spills too.
Mac's keyboard and trackpad area tend to wear out pretty fast, like in about 3 years, making one consider getting a new machine long before it physically fails.

  • Mac book pro got wet touch pad not working

my mac book pro touch pad got wet and is moving curser irractically  Im using mouse but v tricky too..jumping all over please help please

If you just had water on it, just let it sit and get dry with the computer turned off for at least 24 hours.  If it still fails to work properly, you may need to modify your System Preferences for the Keyboard and Mouse setting to ignore the trackpad until you can get it fixed.   Alas, that likely is not covered under warranty.

  • How do I handle that my delivered mac book pro was broken (touch pad) although packaging was fine?

Found that my new, finally arrived computer, is broken (touch pad completely crashed). The packaging is fine. It must have been broken when being put in the box which makes me even more frustrated. Then, when calling support, no help is available until Monday. Sooo frustrating...

Hi! No apple stores unfortunately. Do you know what I can expect from Apple? More delays without any kind of compensation?
Things like this are handled on a case by case basis. What delays have there been so far? Apple isn't an airline which compensates you based on late flights or lost baggage. They give you a warranty for their product and will honor their warranty according to their rules. Because of relatively severe damage done to a part inside a box that shows no sign of damage, you must be able to see that this is quite a bit out of the ordinary. Most people don't react well to anger, threats, demands, and ultimatums. Make your case calmly and honestly and the rest is up to them. If first conversation doesn't go anywhere, ask to speak to a higher-up.

  • In my MacBook Pro old 2006 late model Lion 10.7.4 how achieve right click from touch pad

In my MacBook Pro old 2006 late model Lion 10.7.4 how achieve right click from touch pad?

The multigesture buttonless trackpad was introduced with the Unibody Macs that came out in Late 2008. Successive models have built upon that, adding 2, 3 and more fingers to the gestures.
Older models don't have the trackpad hardware needed to detect those motions and, hence, cannot support multigestures. Only resort is using combination of keys with the button, as disguise suggests.

  • MBA Thunderbold port to VGA projector. Lost touch pad pointer.

I used a minidisplay port to VGA adapter in the thunderbolt port.  The projector recognizes the MBA and I can see the display preference panel on the projector screen.  On the MBA screen I have lost the mouse pointer, but can see it on the projuected screen.  How can I adjust the MBA screen to use the touch pad?
    Thanks

It sound like the calibration screen and the touch "focus" has been shifted to the "primary" display - which is the last added display adapter. I don't have the setup to test, but you might be able to fix by selecting the Touch panel as the primary display (maybe). You may be stuck because the USB adapter will always be enumerated as the last device.
    Perhaps...
    1) Plug in USB adapter to enable display.
    2) Go into display options and select Touchscreen as Primary and make sure "extend desktop" is unchecked.
You may also be able to trick the system by going into DM and removing reinstalling the real primary display adapter.
If all fails, you should be able to unplug the USB device and use MS system restore to go back when it was working properly.
Of course, I am saying all this without having the hardware in front ofme. I've played around with mutiple displays enough to know that you get into some funny behaviour when you have two distinct video adapters installed in the system. The best multi-display solution are those driven from one adapter - one video card with an HDMI and a DVI for example.
If you figure this out, please reply back. I'd like to know if it is possible to keep touch while using another adapter.
