My Mac can't find the server when I connect to cable internet.

My Mac can't find the server when I connect to cable internet. Ethernet is fine, the problem is that Safari doesn't open the login/password window. Can anybody help?

The system administrator of my network has had the following solution - to help open the window for the login/password I tick "web proxy" (and enter the information for web proxy server) in "network preferences - advanced - proxies", enter the login/password and then untick it to open webpages. A little complicated, but it works, and that's the only solution so far.

What do I need to do when it says ther server can not be found when I try to login on my PC?

It doesn't appear to be a valid domain.
'''.mx''' on its own would make it a second level domain, that is is to say, the organization which registered the domain.
Your site will likely be a third level domain which means there has to be a prefix before the '''.mx'''. What that should be will depend on the registrar. For example, it could be '''www.ssmithx10.com.mx'''
You need to contact the company where your site is registered to find out what that is.
Here's a list just in case you haven't registered it all: http://www.registry.mx/jsf/rar_list/search/search.jsf

Since upgrading to Firefox 27.0 some webpages will not load when I click on them. It gives me a message saying that Firefox can't find the server. I have to click the link several time before it will load and sometimes when they do load it does not show the page right. It is like the HTML is messed up or something. I have tried everything I can think of. I started in safe mode, still did it., I removed add-ons, still did it., I reset Firefox and still did it., I completely uninstalled Firefox and re-installed Firefox and it still does it. I have tried Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scans and Avast boot-time scans and found no malware or viruses. I have found that those websites open the first time with no problems on my IE9 and they used to do so in Firefox 26.0. I'm at my wit's end. The website links are in my bookmarks and are used all the time so they are trusted and my avast is set to allow them. They range from news websites to gun websites and everything I have read says that Mozilla does not filter those unless something has changed recently.

Why do I frequently get the messages that "Safari can't find the server" or "Your are not connected the the Internet" when I definitely am. This happens most frequently when I try to access the App. Store.

I'd try the following document with that one, debra:

Try resetting your proxy server. Go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings and select one. I must do this every time I restart Firefox -- but at least after that, I'm okay until the next restart.

  • Safari can't find the server.

I updated to Ilife08....I went to iweb and added some pages to the site....i published the pages...I got the announce your site message...I did that....I then went to visit site and I got Safari can’t find the server.Safari can’t open the page “http://www.michaelcarlucci.com/Mickeyt” because it can’t find the server “www.michaelcarlucci.com”. I have tried everything and I cant publish anything...I tried adding a site and copying the old pages to it...that did not work...I tried changing the site name ...that didn't work....when I open Iweb...everthing is there...but when i go to publish...it will do everthing and send me the announce and visit...but when i go to visit...i still get the same message...+*ok...I give up....*+and to top it all off the pictures look aweful...they are super saturated in reds....so what i want to do is throw it all out and start over...and hopefully it will get me back to where I began...I copied everything in the site folder and put it in a file on my desk top....but this was after I had all the trouble...everythingseems to be there though...but I am not sure if I would know if anything is missing....the domain was changed from domain to domain 2...so I guess the up grade worked....
How do I throw the site away....delete everything and then start from scratch? I must have done something but I couldn't tell you what I did...I've read everything on these forums and have spent two days and a night trying to fix it...

well i bet that is a good guess....I did go there and change the name....and it has not been 48 hours yet...the only problem is that I have now published to file on my desktop.....and it worked from there....Then I published all to .mac.....i got the anounce and visit pop up...when i went to visit....it doesn't work....but when I went to the site from my file I copied the address on the web page....which is http://web.mac.com/micluc/MichaelTrower_Carlucci/Welcome1.html.....I bookmarked it and just for the heck of it I went to the last page on digital painting and changed to photos with push pins....I then published....I still get the message from the visit....but when I drop in http://web.mac.com/micluc/MichaelTrower_Carlucci/Welcome1.html... the changes where there and everything is working...have I fixed it...or have I just made it possible for me to get there....and it is actually not the right way as I can't visit the site from Iweb itself....so when the 48 hours is up and new DNS settings show up...will i be in the same mess? thank you for helping me with this...

  • Can't find the server for a site, multiple browsers, multiple computers

In recent weeks, possibly coinciding with updates in Firefox (running 3.6.10), Safari (5.0.2) and iTunes (10.0.1), I have only received the prompt, "can't find server" when attempting to connect to the site kcrw.com. Others can get it on their computers in other places, and my iPhone can access when on 3G, but our network here seems affected because all the computers [All macs, some laptops and some desktops, running on OS 10.5.8] here receive this message. I used to be able to go to this site, a radio station, and stream audio or download podcasts. My ISP ran a ping test to the site's server and said that went through, but the browsers and iTunes don't seem to be able to make the transformation to anything I can read. What kind of a problem is this? Apple care was no help either.

    HI Alice,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Now click: Change Settings. That will prompted your System Preferences / Network pane. Make sure the Proxies tab is selected.
If any of the boxes are checked under: Select a protocol to configure.
That could be a factor. If there are, deselect, then click the OK button.
Quit Safari. Relaunch Safari and see if that made a difference.
If it's not a proxy issue, go to a website. If you see the "can't find the server" try reloading the page.
    Command + R
Also, try Open DNS - Free / Basic . Includes anti phishing filters.
And help here to manually add DNS. Topic : Manually provided DNS server addresses are higher priority than DHCP's

  • "Safari Can't Find the Server" is chronic in Safari under Snow Leopard...

Since moving to Snow Leopard (or perhaps it is just an updated Safari in SL and otherwise not related to SL??) when my Mac starts up from sleep with Safari being already open, I typically find a blank message with "Safari Can't Find the Server"... And just clicking on pages, I sometimes get that same message. Sometimes I get the spinning gear (for way too long) and I've learned to stop it and just click the same link again and more often than not, it opens immediately the second time...
Any ideas??? Is this a bug that Apple needs to fix or do I need to do something to Safari (or something else) to fix this problem???
    thanks... bob...

Whoa... Now I'm really confused... When I go to my System Preferences, then Network, highlight Airport, then click on Advanced, then choose the DNS tab, all I see under DNS Servers is the internal IP address of my Apple Router (10.x.x.x).. And next to that under Search Domains is hsd1.ca.comcast.net... And that is all there is... And I didn't set any of that up... When I bought my Apple Extreme Router a couple years ago, I was so impressed because I came home, plugged it in, basically said "GO" and the router set it all up and just worked... And I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that the Router put the 10.x.x.x in that preference panel, in other words, pointed to itself for DNS services...
This is effectively saying that the DNS configured in the router will be the default.
So help me understand... If I change the DNS settings on the mac from 10.x.x.x to the OpenDNS values, the router would still have the Comcast values in it??? How does that work??? And if I only change them on my mac, then the rest of the computers on my home network would still be using the original Comcast DNS servers as established on the router, yes??? I mean I think that would have to be...
If you change your Mac, that is what it will use. Other computers will use whatever
    they are configured to use.
See my confusion??? Again, I know only enough about Network settings to know that if I click a wrong button I could make a lot of trouble... So I don't move until I understand what at least a little more than clearly I know now...
So how do local (mac) settings for DNS play (or not) with DNS settings up at the router level???
The local settings should override anything else since that is what will
be used first. They have no interaction with what is at the router level.
    thanks... bob..

  • The Safari Can't Find The Server - Error!

After updating my iPad and Mac OSX to the latest version, I am constantly getting 'The Safari Can't find the server' error on valid addresses. I have to refresh a few times to access the website.
I have gone through many posts and I gathere that it is not a Mac issue, but something to do with network settings - DHCP/Proxy. But I still could not figure out how to solve the problem.
If someone can guide/advise me then that would be a great help..
    Thanks

I'm having similar issues with Safari saying it can not find the server.  Tumblr and Zooniverse sites are particularly troublesome, even with refreshing.  I have checked the status of their servers and they are up and running without issues.  I can access them eventually but have to close the current tab and reopen later.  However, when I use Chrome or Firefox I can access the sites with no problem.  It's not a local network problem as I can access the internet and those sites on my iPhone and all other sites.  It appears to be an issue with Safai.

  • Safari can't find the server (Airport)

    I'm totally confused about airport:
I've got a G5 upstairs and my Powerbook downstairs. I have configured the G5 so that my PBook recognises it, I'm able to connect to the G5 using my password etc etc there is good signal.
But when I try and open a web page it just says "safari can't find the server "
In Network prefs it says: "Airport is connected to the network... Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet"
What is going on, how do I fix it please?
    Many thanks for any help
    Cheers

    Hi,
Does email work? Do you use an ISP for Internet connectivity, or do you run your own DNS nameservers?
If you use a third-party's ISP's DNS for name resolution, those machines could be down. That would result in Safari not finding the web page requested. To determine whether or not your ISP's DNS name servers are up and running, try ping-ing them. If you can ping them then the problem is probably on your machine.
Do you see any network-related error messages in the file system.log in /var/log? If so, post them here so debugging can proceed.

  • Safari keeps giving me message " Safari can't find the server '

Safari continues to for no apparent reason stop working and gives the message when I try and surf " Safari can't find the server " mean while my e-mail and Message's works fine.....any hints  would be appreciated
btw I am a 2 week Mac user after 17yrs on a pc...please be gentle with me....I'm hooked up direct with an ethernet that's been working ok up until now....now it's several times an hour
    thanks

Safari does have occasional work carried out and there could have been some recently.
Incidentally, your profile is a little out, I think you mean 10.9.1 Mavericks for your OS, not iOS 7.0.4. which is for ipads, phones etc.  (A bit picky of me because you did say late 2013)
    Thanks for the star.

  • Safari can't find the server OVER and OVER and OVER

I just purchased a 2013 Macbook Air last week. It is running the latest version (Mavericks). I planned to migrate from Google Chrome as my primary browser to Safari.
However, approximately 1 in 8 websites I visit come back with the error "Safari can't find the server." These same websites show up fine in Chrome and other browsers.
I have used past answers on here to try and fix things. So far I have:
-Ensured the websites work in other browsers
    -Turned off any firewall
    -Turned off any extensions
    -Erased history and deleted cache
    -Restarted computer and Safari
-Changed just about every Safari setting under preferences
-Unchecked any proxies in Network settings
    -Reset my wi-fi router
None of these things have fixed the problem or reduced the number of times the error message is displayed.
I have no antivirus or mac cleaner crap on my computer, so that shouldn't be interferring.
Also, these are not some strange foreign websites I'm trying to access; these are things like Tumblr, USPS.com, eBay, Audible, etc. Heck, even the discussions.apple.com has not been found once or twice.
Is this a normal thing for Safari to suck or have I missed something that might fix it? Because at the moment I'm going to go back to Chrome and pack Safari away.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari can't find the server....but I'm Wi-Fi connected. ??

I know this topic has been discussed in the past so if someone wants to send me the link to that post that would be fine.
When I connect to Wi-Fi, I can't get on the internet because I get a "safari can't open the page because it can't find the server."
    Help!

Hello Txlisad. Posted below are some questions as well as possible troubleshooting steps that may assist with this issue.
    1. You stated that iPhone shows your connected to your WiFi. If you go to Settings- WiFi-
Does your network have a check mark? does it have a padlock by the network name or not?
If it has a check mark then it means your connected to a point. Tap on the blue circle on the right hand side of your network name.
What are the first 3 numbers in the IP address? If your getting a 169 IP address then we have an issue with the DHCP Server submitting a proper IP address.
If you have a 192, 10, or 172 IP address and the Router Address also semi matches the starting numbers. Then we are seeing the router. And communicating.
Have your router ever successfully connected to any WiFi Network? If so then we do know the issue is isolated to your network.
Are you using Mac Address Filtering? If so then you can add your Wireless Address to your router. The iPhone has it's own Wireless Address that needs to go into the router settings if this is the case.
You can obtain this by going to Settings-General-About
    2. If you are using WiFi security. Try turning it off see if the iPhone is able to now connect and work. If it does it means you had a security level that just was not friendly with the iPhone
I recommend you use WEP 128 bit 13 character password. Or WPA/WPA2 Personal 8 character password.
If you find changing security to another one it is still not working. Check to see if your router company has a firmware update for your router.
Hope some of this helps out. You can also reach us at 1-800-My-iPhone for assistance. Please keep in mind Apple does not assist with configuring your router settings if you do not own an Apple Router such as Airport Express or Airport Extreme. All we can offer is information and suggestions that you can have your ISP or Router manufacture assist you with.
Post back if you got more questions.

I am using an IMac G5 and my friend a powerbook G4. I send with mail a link to my ical. When clicking onto this link he gets no Server.
    IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

My friend using a mac too, can´t find the

    strange ...
Perhaps the link you put in the email got broken
between lines. If so, clicking on it may well
produce an invalid request. Try putting the url
between brackets or at asking your friend to type
    it in letter by letter.
Iknow the problem with broken lines. That is not the reason. I will send a testmail to someone other and report it later. Thanks for helping me !

  • "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server"

I just bought my iPhone. The first time I attempted to log onto my home wireless network (US Robotics Wireless Router) the iPhone performed perfectly. However, the next time I attempted to logon and surf it gave me the "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" error message. I tried a variety of things which didn't work. I called the Apple Tech Support. Turning off the router and rebooting it was the only thing that worked. I thought my problem was resolved because after cycling the router the iPhone worked great once again. But . . . later the same day I attempted to connect to the router and the same thing happened and I got the error message. I attempted to power cycle the router just like before but this time it did not work! Help! Bad router? Wrong settings on router or iPhone?

Do you have other wireless devices connected to this same router? Do they work?
I really can't help you much but to say that when my router exhibited this issue it was accross the board (all notebooks would connect immediately following a router restart, but would loss connectivity until I rebooted the router again). In my case the only solution that was permanent was to replace the router.
You may also try restarting the phone and the router, setup security - WEP - (or disable security) on the router and phone, and/or try a different wi-fi channel (may actually help).
