A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • How come my ATV2 causes my internet to crash?

Anytime I go on to my ATV2 and start watching a movie, streaming music to it, or whatever, after a little while my internet goes down and none of the computers on my WIFI can use the internet until I reset my router(aka unplug it and plug it back in). The internet goes down after being on ATV2 for a little while.
    Why does this happen?
I have a kind of old router. Would getting a new one fix this problem?
Or do I need to do something with the Apple TV to fix this problem? Maybe it's using to much bandwidth and thus causes the internet to go down?
    Thanks for your help!

Anyone have a solution to this problem yet? I am still having this problem occur every time I use the Apple TV!

Yes. See this thread about how to access the disk attached to a Time Capsule.  Access to the Time Capsule itself can be done similarly.

  • Sharing files between two macs over the internet

I'm trying to work out how to connect two macs across the internet and am wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a "very basic , step by step, how to" file or manual.
I've browsed some of the discussion in this forum and some are more helpful than others but none seem to start with the very basics of what should or should not be turned on in the firewall settings and the the security issues mentioned in one ot two threads.
I'm not looking for " hold my hand tutorial" just a pointer to where I can do some more reading so I can inform myself and possibly ask some emore intelligent questions

Can I load Office for Mac via the internet?  I own the disks and have only loaded them twice.

If you are saying that you have one license left of a three license edition MS Office for Mac 2011, then all you have to do is download a MS Office trial for Mac from the MS website. Using the available license registration number, you can activate the downloaded trial and have the same functionality as if you had used the disks and registered with that same number.

  • Can I control a network of Macs across the internet with ARD?

    Hi,
Can I control a network of Macs across the internet with ARD?
I seem to only be able to control one mac at a time. Am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Matt

To be able to connect to a workstation from outside it's network, the ports that ARD uses must be open on both ends of the connection. ARD uses ports 3283 and 5900 so those must be open.
If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
    to connect.
The only other options are: 1) to run the ARD administrator on a workstation on the network, and then take control of that system from outside, either via VNC or another copy of ARD, or 2) set up a virtual private network (VPN) so that when you connect from outside, your admin system is officially part of the local network.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can one mac access the internet and not the other?

Hi I have just installed a 2nd generation Airport Express base station. I have setup a network and I can connect to it to access the web. Here's the rub, only my Macbook Pro can connect. My Macbook Air cannot connect? A weird error message says (translated from Swedish): Airport has the selfapplied/selfselected IP adress 169.254.67.130 and will not be able to connect to the internet.
Why can one mac access the internet and not the other? Is there something simple that I can do to get more macs to be able to use my Airport Express to access the internet?
    Tech details:
Airport Express 2nd generation (just purchased) model 1392
    Macbook Pro running 10.8.2
    MacBook Air running 10.6.8

It seems the Airbook assigns a dummy IP address so somehow it doesn't reach and receive an IP from the Express. I deleted the previous Express setting restarted the Air connected again, restarted the modem, restarted the Express nothing....
I spoke to the internet provider and the cable modem does not require any username or pw. from the modem to the cable it's one public ip, pure internet is flowing from the modem to the Express but the express doesn't seem to assign any IP address apart from the one assigned to the Macbook Pro.
Do you need a screendump of the settings on the functioning Mac or the faulty one? What settings are you interested in i.e. which tab should it shot?

  • How do I control my office mac throught the internet from home

I have a small office network with 5 computers.
The network is has internet access through a windows 2003 server PC. On the network I have 3 macs, one mac mini server running Filemaker Pro 11 which acts as a filemaker server for the other 3 Macs. When I am in the office I use my MBP with Remote Desktop 3.4 to access the server mac and work on Filemaker. I need to be able to access this from home through the internet.
How do I go about this. I don't have local Mac support where I live, and the IT people I use only know Windows systems.
    Thanks
    Abel

Thank you, the problem has been solved. I would think that the help screens of Remote Desktop can explain that better, but I managed to find the solution searching through the forum.
I had the IT guy open ports 3283 and 5900 on the router and then instructed the router to forward request to those ports to the internal IP address of the computer I want to controll.
In Remote Desktop I selected Scanner and the button Network Address and then entered the router's internet IP address.
RDP then picks up the computer I want to control and from there you just follow the prompts for password.
Prior to this and since posting my first message I tried out logmein and without any help I was able to remotely contol the other computer without getting anyone to set ports. However I think that Remote Desktop offers more features and is probably faster.

  • Can't upload any files from my mac to the Internet

I am new to Macbook, and this obviously never happened before
    So, the problem is:
I can't upload any files from my Mac anywhere (Facebook, Instagram, etc)
    I can't attach files to e-mails.
any files that are on my desktop, folders - they just turn in grey and I can't choose them.
The only way I can do it is by going to "ALL FILES" where I have to search through all the files that are on my Mac
Keep in mind that this is a glitch, because earlier it was all fine and normal
To see what I mean I am uploading a skreen shot of attemp of uploading files to Fb.
Can anybody help? Can it be some sort of virus?

Okay I had the same problem but I figured it out.  When you go to choose file, all the links are greyed out.  Use two fingers simulatiously and click down on the file you want, then choose "quick look" from the option menu.  This will open a preview of your document and make the open button usable.  Close the preview, and then select the open button.
The site I was trying to use says it only supports IE, so maybe that is what causes the problem.
    Hope it works for you!
