My Mac Crashed...iTunes was there..now it's not after reboot

My 17" Powerbook crashed on me, first i noticed iPhoto pics started missing, so i quit iPhoto, restarted it, then all the photos were gone...nowhere to be found.
So I restarted my machine...then the whole system had been flushed, all preferences were set to default, all my apps were still there and project files, but all of my apps, when opened, were like brand new, i had to register some, input serials again, etc.
I noticed my iTunes library was still in the folder, but not showing up in iTunes...so i decided to come back to it later and re-import everything...but hours later all the songs are gone...nothing in the folder...and if they were deleted i should have noticed at least 30gb of more space on my HD...
any thoughts as to where they might be?

The first suggestion is to search your HD with Spotlight and see if you can find the files buried somewhere.
I would be backing up my files as insurance.
