My Mac does not stay on for even 5 minutes without being plugged in. Why?
My Mac will not stay on for even 5 minutes without being plugged in. It just completely shuts itself off. It started doing it and I went in and cleaned up some stuff, but it just kept getting worse. Not I'm lucky to get 5 minutes out of it. Why?

TorstenI have to same problem: Bought Elgato Sat 3 years ago. Now I decided to install it in the living room and bought a new i5 Mac mini. EyeTV works fine but does not wake up Mountain Lion 10.8.2 sometimes.
When I program wake up events manually via System Preferences or pmset command in the terminal, all works fine and my Mac wakes up. I tried everything, from clean reinstall to debugging AutoWake.plist and such.

Mac Pro does not stay consistently connected to internet
Okay, I will try to be as detailed as possible...
I recently moved and had a new internet connection set up. The company replaced the modem and router I previously had (against my will) with their modem/wireless router combo. My Mac Pro has a wired connection, while all other devices (iPods, iPhones, PC laptop, etc.) in my home are wireless. The wireless devices all work consistently fine, however, the Mac does not. Typically, while having network diagnostics open, I reset the modem and everything is fine. After a few minutes, or after closing diagnostics, it no longer works again. Today, even after restarting the modem and getting all green lights, it doesn't seem to connect at all.
I have Windows installed under boot camp and the connection there works perfectly fine. This tells me there is an issue within my OSX settings, and not the equipment or connection. After learning this, my cable company's tech support basically told me to get lost and contact Apple. Though I'm paying them an obsene amount of money for crappy internet service, they really could care less about ensuring that their products at least work with their customers' equipment (they even told me they're tech support is unfamiliar with OSX).
I'm guessing something in my network settings is causing this, but I don't have enough in-depth knowledge about this particular subject to troubleshoot it myself. I'm desperate for a good samaritan to help as my business can no longer operate until I have working internet access.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!Disable the router function in the modem they provided and you can continue to use yours.
Modems, esp. cable, you may be able to return it.
There may be a list of modems that are compatible on their service - even some that aren't listed will be like SB6121.
And are you paying a monthly fee for their modem?
Others have "commented on" the Mac Pro not negotiating as well. But it was when you used your own router, right ?

Netgear routers - got the WNDR3400v2 last year and thinking about the next level, the R6300 probably this fall. I can even configure and monitor from iPad, iPhone, Android and their desktop app (Win and Mac).
I wonder if like my ISP they have a support forum, I'd be lost w/o. They can check the modem remote login and see what the modem is logging (over my head).
Had some odd electrial spike - 3x in a minute going onto UPS but not an outage. Spikes? left their modem 50% function and semi-crippled. I had to reset modem or it would reset itself I should say every 5-10 minutes at times. ISP could not tell until they got there. Then they found the modem was unable to connect to their activation page and had to replace it and the drop point on the telephone pole 70 ft away.
I now keep a spare modem of my own (SB6121) and continue to use theirs, Cisco.
You do have the ability to use your router, just not double-NAT is all. -
IIMac doing upgrade of Elements 10 to Elementys 12. Did full backup of 10 on my external hard drive "MY Passport". Rec'd message backup successful. Did restore on 12 and rec'd message "The disk in drive My Passport for Mac does not contain a valid backup". Any help suggestions?
The funniest part of the whole situation, Apple Care explained it to me as some kind of feature. The told me how to adjust the time when my computer sleeps and recommend I don't shut it down, let it sleep and "instant wake". I would bet if you called them about your Macbook, they would suggest you just close the lid and let it sleep rather than shutting it down.
Basically shutdown and restart have a problem and the solution is to not shutdown is how they explained it to me. They kept saying buzz words like "instant on" and "fast wakeup". My computer already could sleep and wakeup fast, but now shutdown and restart don't work right. I called them 3 times about it, but since they use these buzzwords, sounds like Lion is meant for a Macbook Air or a Mac with an SSD. If you have a normal hard disk, some of the saving/versions/resume features take too long to be written to the disk on shutdown. And when you start again, it takes a long time to reload the system to it's previous point.
Even if I uncheck the box to reopen windows on next start, it reopens them anyways.
If they can't give me a better explaination or some kind of fix, I will have to go back to Snow Leopard. I use my Mac in a production environment and depend on stability. They assured me before I upgraded that it would be stable and all the new saving and versions features could help my productivity. So far it's not helping me and downright annoying. You need to close all your windows before you close the program... if you have 5 windows open in terminal or textedit... every time you launch, they will launch all those windows. I just really want versions, not resume it seems.
But I can deal with it opening a million windows, just can't take it getting stuck on booting or not shutting down properly. This is a "feature" that should be fixed. LOL -

Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac does not show up in Applications. Tutorial for editing from iPhoto shows selecting the Adobe software in Applications. Am I missing a step in registering product?
I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

So, recently my texts are not being received by an android phone. It says they are sent on my phone, but the android phone does not get them for hours or even at all. When they do come through, they come in random order. It is really aggravating and I do not know how to fix it at all. I have reset my phone multiple, updated it, I have tried everything. Contact your carrier. There are no settings on the iPhone regarding SMS. SMS is a carrier function. Have the carrier check to make sure that your account is provisioned correctly.

After moving my music library from my old mb to the new one, my new mb pro does not play the files evenly. It takes a break for two sec's and starts playback where it stopped. Ideas anyone?

They only thing I can assume is that my external hard drive was slow to start and iTunes defaulted to its old directory (see the last paragraph at the link above). However, once my external was recognized shouldn't everything have fixed itself?

Have most recent macbook pro connected to thunderbolt via thunderbolt cable. Occasionally when I close my laptop the thunderbolt display goes black and does not come back on---even in response to keyboard. Help

It sounds like you are trying to use your MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt Display in closed clamshell mode (MacBook Pro closed), but sometimes the display doesn't stay on. I found an article that talks about closed clamshell mode. You would have to fulfill the following requirements to use your display this way:

Power adapter
External keyboard, mouse, or trackpad
External display

Modeless window using "palette" does not stay up in CS5
I am having trouble running a modeless dialog with CS5 (on Windows 64-bit). My own script does not stay up and neither does the SnpCreateDialog.jsx snippet that comes with the ESTK and is supposed to demonstrate modeless dialogs. I have tried:
Running from the Scripts panel
Add #target photoshop
Being sure the drop-down menu says Photoshop, not CTSK
as suggested in an older discussion at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3008230#3008230. (I decided to make a new discussion as that one was marked answered.)
It also does not stay up when moved into the Photoshop Scripts folder and run from the File menu in Photoshop.
The relevant code in SnpCreateDialog.jsx is:

If I put a breakpoint on the "return true;" line, then I can see that the dialog has, in fact, been created and is visible, but it has returned from win.show() and will go away as soon as the script continues.

Sorry but no, most of the Photoshop UI is disabled while a script is running even if the script displays a palette window.
A dialog window does wait for show() to complete. That is what makes dialogs modal. A palette window does not wait for show() to complete. It runs the rest of the script.
In the example you posted all the script does after showing the window is return true then ends. Which is why all it does is flash the window. If you put a $.sleep(1000) line before the return true line the windows will display until sleep timeouts then the script will end and the window will close. That is why with Photoshop palette windows are really only useful for progress bars or other script status type windows.
Although palette windows may allow the user to intreact with the app UI while the window is displayed that doesn't work with Photoshop. The window only displays while the script is running and a running script limits Photoshop UI interaction.
I have tested palette windows in CS2, CS3, CS4, and CS5 with the same results. The window only shows while the script is running.
With Photoshop if you want the user to interact with the UI you have to create a panel. -

Just bougiht a new macbook air and the start up screen is not accepting my password even though I have typed it in a few times and correctly. I have already used this mac previously for 2 days and have added microsoft office today but this is the first time I have logged in since the installation.
I don't understand why the password isn't being accepted. Could it be the installation? Or do I need to reset my macbook air?
Just a note, I'm not proficient using a Mac.This is my first macbook.

Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed). Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
