My mac doesn't recognize my ipod.... help!

I started having problems after I updated to the newest iTunes. I tried to plug in my iPod to update the songs, but when I plugged it in, a message popped up that said that the computer didn't recognize what was connected to the USB.
So I went to the iPod support site and tried the five steps, none of which worked. And when I tried restoring my iPod, I think it made the problem worse ... now the little folder symbol with the exclamation point pops up, which it didn't do before. And - eep - I can't find the original disk that came with my iPod. I've had it for like a year and I've just lost track.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do??? I want to fix my iPod, but I don't think I'll ever recover if my iTunes has to be erased...
Feel free to reply to the post or e-mail me, [email protected] . Thanks to anybody who has some advice for me!!!!!

First, please find a window based PC around you, plug your iPod with it (you may need to put your iPod in disk mode) and do a Restore there. Once it has been done (does not matter whether it manages to complete or not), reconnect it back with your Mac, and it will be read this time, then open the iPod updater on your Mac and click Restore.

  • My Mac doesn't recognize my ipod nano at all, what can I do?

I tried to restore my ipod nano because I bought a new Apple computer with Mac OS X system, nano was in Windows format. But I failed to do the restore and nano doesn't respond me anymore. Somehow I managered to put it in disk mode by checking all the solutions available, but when I reconnected nano to computer, my Mac just doesn't recognize it at all and ipod shows nowhere in my computer. How can I restore my nano with this situation? any suggestion? some help??

Knowledge Base Document #93718 about iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes
    iPod FAQ says,
"Question: I have both a Mac and a PC. Will my iPod work on both?
Answer: No, not at the same time. iPod is configured for either Mac or PC. You can use the iPod Updater to restore iPod to work with a Mac or a PC (depending on which version of the updater you use). See "Restoring iPod to factory settings" for more information. Note: Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple. FAT32 is the format used by Windows, and while some FAT32 iPod models may work with your Mac, Apple only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac.
Question: Can I use an iPod formatted for Mac on a PC, or an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac?
Answer: It is not possible to use an iPod formatted for Mac with Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive.
You can convert an iPod formatted for Windows into an iPod for Mac by using the iPod for Mac Software Updater on the Apple website. Note that once it is reformatted, it will only work with Macs. You need Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.1 or later to reformat an iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac.
Note: Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple."

Help please. My Mac OS X 10.6.3 doesn't recognize my iPod touch 3.1.3, I am using Xcode 3.2.3 now. My iTunes is 9.2.1(5). What will I do?

    Have you tried here:

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?

My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?
When I connect my iPod to my computer, nothing happens. I've read the tips in the section "support" and I noticed that maybe Windows 8 is not one of the operating systems that are compatible with an iPod nano 7th generation. If I'm right, what can I do if my only device is a Windows 8?

    Hi, Grafiti.
Thank you for the question.  Below, I have attached a couple troubleshooting articles that will help resolve the device not being recognized by iTunes.

  • Mac doesn't recognize shuffle and opening iTunes with Shuffle crashes Mac

I recently updated to iTunes 7. Now my Mac doesn't recognize my year old shuffle when I plug it in, and when I open iTunes it freezes the Mac.

I have been monitoring this forum on and off for weeks looking for a solution for my shuffle disfunction and this appears to be it.
My shuffle would play songs and recharge on my iMac but would not be recognized by iMac by any of the expected means. This problem started after updating to iTunes 7. Tried uninstalling 7, and any of the other suggestions here that could work with out communication between iMac and shuffle, since the shuffle would not link to the computer.
I had resigned myself to a shuffle that played only the songs currently loaded until it finally died. But, using the 06-06-28 updater worked for me as well, although it was a bit of a quirky process. Once launched, the updater immediately recognized my shuffle (first sign of life in weeks). When I chose the update button, it ran through an update but said there was an error after finishing and that I should disconnect, re-connect, and try again.
Just disconnecting the shuffle mad the updater crash. I had to restart my mac, but when restarted my shuffle launched itunes and there it was. It appears to be fully functional again and I jut cancel when it says there is an update available for my iPod.
