My Mac doesn't recognize my ipod nano at all, what can I do?

I tried to restore my ipod nano because I bought a new Apple computer with Mac OS X system, nano was in Windows format. But I failed to do the restore and nano doesn't respond me anymore. Somehow I managered to put it in disk mode by checking all the solutions available, but when I reconnected nano to computer, my Mac just doesn't recognize it at all and ipod shows nowhere in my computer. How can I restore my nano with this situation? any suggestion? some help??

Knowledge Base Document #93718 about iPod appears on the Mac OS X desktop but not in iTunes
iPod FAQ says,
"Question: I have both a Mac and a PC. Will my iPod work on both?
Answer: No, not at the same time. iPod is configured for either Mac or PC. You can use the iPod Updater to restore iPod to work with a Mac or a PC (depending on which version of the updater you use). See "Restoring iPod to factory settings" for more information. Note: Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple. FAT32 is the format used by Windows, and while some FAT32 iPod models may work with your Mac, Apple only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac.
Question: Can I use an iPod formatted for Mac on a PC, or an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac?
Answer: It is not possible to use an iPod formatted for Mac with Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive.
You can convert an iPod formatted for Windows into an iPod for Mac by using the iPod for Mac Software Updater on the Apple website. Note that once it is reformatted, it will only work with Macs. You need Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.1 or later to reformat an iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac.
Note: Using the iPod for Mac on a PC, or using the iPod for Windows on a Mac, is not supported by Apple."

  • My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?

My Windows 8.1 computer doesn't recognize my iPod nano 7th generation. Why?
When I connect my iPod to my computer, nothing happens. I've read the tips in the section "support" and I noticed that maybe Windows 8 is not one of the operating systems that are compatible with an iPod nano 7th generation. If I'm right, what can I do if my only device is a Windows 8?

    Hi, Grafiti.
Thank you for the question.  Below, I have attached a couple troubleshooting articles that will help resolve the device not being recognized by iTunes.

  • Itunes 7.5 doesn't recognize by iPod nano (2nd gen)

After upgrading to iTunes 7.5, my Macs won't recognize the presence of my iPod nano. The iPod knows its connected, because the battery is charging, but iTunes doesn't know it's there and so can't sync. Any ideas?

This sounds like what my iPod Classic was doing a few weeks ago (before the 7.5 release of iTunes.) In my case, it turned out to need a simple reset of my iPod...
Read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705 and see if that helps any. If not, take a look at which version of the iPod software yours is running... I know there were a few bum version numbers out for a short while... at least for the Classic.

  • PC doesn´t recognize my IPOD Nano 4G

I bought an IPOD Nano 4G and it is recognized by my notebook but it is not recognized by my PC. I installed the software with Nano plugged on my PC but I unninstalled all apple softwares and reinstalled again with Nano disconnected but PC doesn´t still recognize my Nano. How can I proceed to resolve this problem ?

    hiya!
here's probably the best places to start if the ipod isn't showing up in "My Computer":
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
... but if it does show up in "My Computer", try:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported

  • My New computer doesn't recognize my ipod nano

my old computer crashed. i now have a new laptop. i have installed my iPod software and the latest iTunes. i can go into iTunes, access the music store, and everything else... but when i plug up my iPod, it doesnt pop up in the source menu in iTunes. the iPod is showing DO NOT DISCONNECT so i know that the cable and USB port are good. i registered it on this new computer and everything but i dont know why it wont recognize that its plugged up and let me put more songs on it. ive searched these threads and cant find a straight up answer that doesnt involve erasing my whole iPod. is that my only option? ive spent $100+ on iTunes from my old computer and granted i know i cant put these songs onto my new laptop, i at least want them to stay on my iPod! can anyone please help?

thanks for replying! im assuming you mean these...
    1. Reset your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle.
    2. Retry your iPod with a different USB or FireWire port on your computer (please note that the latest iPods can only be synced through USB).
    3. Restart your computer, and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    4. Reinstall your iPod and iTunes software. You can download the latest versions of iPod Updater and iTunes from our website.
    5. Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater. Important: Please note that restoring an iPod will erase all songs and files on your iPod and restore it back to its original settings. Make a backup of any files on your iPod before restoring it. After restoring, you can transfer your music and files from your computer back to your iPod again.
I did reset my iPod, tried restarting the computer, and reinstalled iPod on here AND updated iTunes to the latest version. I only have one USB port on this laptop, so its possible it isn't high-powered (is that the right term?) enough for iPod? This computer is pretty old. So aside from that the last option in your suggestion is the Restore. I just don't understand how that can be the only option just because I got a new computer. If so I wish I had known that before using iTunes to buy my music

  • My Ipod Updater doesn't recognize my Ipod nano

Yes, everytime i try to hook up my ipod nano or start up my ipod updater, the ipod updater says "Ipod Service Error!". From there I have no clue what to do. I've done everything that has been asked i've restarted the ipod, put it in disk mode, changed the format of my H Drive, as well as reinstalled both the installer and the itunes, but still neither of them recognize eachother or the ipod. I'm getting frustrated, and i'm asking for help! If anyone has advice i'd be willing to hear it!
    Thank you!

Go here and follow both steps for the "iPod Service.exe" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
