My Mac doesnt start

I installed the lastest intel security uptade 2007-005. but it cant restart. it freezes at first white screen. how can i fix it. thanks

That reminds me, not that it is going to be very much help here, probably...
But, after I did the same update, I noted that it seemed to take an extraordinary length of time before my Mac did it's restart... as it requires... who knows what it was doing... AND, as a matter of fact, as I recall, it did an automatic "restart" AGAIN, on it's own , right after the first one,,,,
never saw that before... !!!
again, who knows.... but, seems good now (normal-anyway).
Just as a reminder, I follow the tips here and ALLWAYS do a "repair-permissions", before AND after ANY updates.
BTW, I just love "Cocktail" as it does it all.
Once a month I just let it go, and then go to bed..
In remote mode, it cleanes caches, does all the crons, permissions, ... all of it, THEN after, it does a shut down and I am usually fast asleep by then...
I just think that it is so cool...

If you have a external USB enclosure - trying installing your hard drive in that enclosure and connect it to your usb port - restart your macbook while holding down the options key. If you Macbook boots to your desktop then you have a faulty cable. If you get the same error, then your hard drive just died on you.

Yes, Actually was done from an Apple Genius at the apple store, the hard Disk was formatted and then re installed everything from back up.

MY MAC DOESNT START gee how original... in any case advice sought

I picked up 2 green i-macs this weekend. Now that more i-mac literate I have 2 g3 imacs I believe they are both 233mhz
So one starts no problems well seemed a little slow but ok at least it works
The other will only light up the button, make some noises, then shuts off again. After a few mins I can try again but just does the same thing
I tried holding down some keys as the trouble shooting suggest doesnt seem to help out.
I suspose the fact that it starts a little bit is hopeful.
Any thoughts, I think i might be able to return it.. but id rather get it running.

epilogue...............
I ended up returning the non-functioning imac today.
I mentioned all the things that could be the problem (hes a pc guy)
I bought it from a guy at a flea market, funny thing is it ended up right back on the table for sale again im guessing.
If ends up in the garbage, or for $5 I might grab it and try to fix it up. I think thats the thing to do with the older computers try to get a few for spare parts before they hit the landfill.

i turn on my emac, it takes a while for the moniter to finally turn on, but when its on there is a little folder in the middle of the screen that flashes as the finder folder and then a question mark. i tried to turn it on and off, but still nothing response.. please help me!!!!!!!

What does apear on the screen? You could start up in safe mode by holding down the shift key while starting up. You should then go to a login screen. Or you could hold down the R key, which should get you to the restore option. Then you could use the utilities to repair permissions and repair you boot volume.If you use the restore option, do not restore. go to the top and use the utilities option.

You only bought it four months ago, so it's still under warrantly.
Call Applecare or call your nearest Applestore to make an appointment. Tell them your mac has serious technical issues, describe them shortly.

It worked perfectly but when I (or actually my friend) plugged the jack into the wall outlet it came a small flash (in the wall outlet) and then it didn't start up. No sound, no light on the screen. Don't post in all caps. Besides being more difficult to read it's tantamount to shouting and is considered rude in forums. What problems are you having? What model Mac do you have, how much RAM and free space on the boot drive?
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and try the following in order as needed:
1 - select Disk Utility and repair both the disk and disk permissions. Reboot normally.
2 - reinstall the Mavericks system.

Mac software typically does not run installers on inserting the optical media (CD or DVD.) You have to go inside it and find for the installer application - if you can't find it look through the documentation that came with the camera.

Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion > Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If your Mac can run Mountain Lion, if you have anti virus software installed, you may need to disable that before downloading.

Have you moved the iSync application out of its default location in the main Applications folder? If so, move it back and re-install the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo updater (the big one, not the smaller delta update).
I think what's happened is, you've moved the iSync app, and it has only partially been updated with the OS update. If you move Apple apps around, installers cannot find them, and you end up with partially updated apps.
That's why you should never move Apple applications from their default location.

i have held the switch on/off button and the home button together over 10 secs, and nothing happend. its on charge since half an hr, nothing happens....

Connect it to your PC/Mac via the charging cable USB then follow the steps below.
1. Hold down power and home buttons simotaniously, for 10 seconds.
2. After 10 seconds, go ahead and let go of the power button, but keep holding the home button for 5 seconds.
3. You should see the iTunes logo pop-up, it is going to factory restore, or fix up any problems.
*TIP* When i say 10 seconds, i mean count the Zero as well, like 0-1-2-3-ect.
