My Mac has been completely broke with Lion.

Lion has completely killed my Mac, nothing works.95% of my Apps no longer open including Apple software, I was lucky enough that Safari works everything else doesn't.
The menu bar at the top glitches out constantly, it's deleted my whole Preference folder documents, it's deleted my 1TB partition of Windows so I've lost all my work from that side.
It's also making my Mac run like a snail, constantly slowing down, screen tearing. Upon logging I receive about 20 pop ups issuing errors with Finder.
The Mac HDD has somehow locked itself and I can't move documents to it. Time Machine is also acting weird.
Looks like I'm going to need to re-install. So thats 5 years of work down the pipe.

Some more info, nothing seems to be saving.
Safari's history wont save, filled in forms that I've done today. Also adjusting preferences keeps reverting back to last night before the problems occured.
Moving items to the trash doesn't put them in the trash, they just seem to disappear.

My MBA is the previous revision - 1.86GHZ/2GB. It ran well with snow leopard, but has been running *terribly* since Lion.
I downloaded Lion when it came out, and I have all the updates installed.
Never before have I needed to restart my mac just to keep it running. The system is slow, and gets unresponsive if I use Safari for more than an hour.
For example, if i have more than a few tabs open, i will get blank pages when i switch between the tabs. I will then get the spinning beach ball, and after several seconds the page will reload. Scrolling through Google Reader stories takes forever.
I could go on and on, but my basic problem is overall system slowness that is temporarily alleviated by restaring.
What can I do?

Has Spotlight finished indexing? Did you backup your data before installing? Are you sure all your applications are known to be Lion compatible including plugins and drivers?

Hello, I am running Mac OS X 10.9.3. Someone has been pestering me with unwanted e-mail. There used to be a feature that allowed one to "bounce" unwanted mail back to the sender, a message saying they have reached a wrong address. How do I do that now? TY

Hello, I am running Mac OS X 10.9.3. Someone has been pestering me with unwanted e-mail. There used to be a feature that allowed one to "bounce" unwanted mail back to the sender, a message saying they have reached a wrong address. How do I do that now? TYIA

It is not available in Mail any longer (for quite a while, now).
You can add a rule to have Mail mark them as junk, or you could possibly log onto your Email provider's web site and block that address.

I am running safari 7.0.6 with IOS 10.9.4. after the mac has been asleep and I log on I cannot open safari as it appears to have crashed. the workaround to this is to reboot the IOS and log back in after which safari will open.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

HT1414 When updating my iphone with new software it came up on screen with the cable and itunes sign (which is what I should get when restoration has been completed) yet it is still saying restore. I have tried 3 times and the screen won't change. HELP!

If the sign does not go away it has not completed the restore. So you are incorrect when you say it "keeps completing the restore" if that message is still displayed.
Do you get an error message? If so, what is the error number?

OnyX for Snow Leopard, How has been your experience with it?

What is OnyX? it's in the apple download page, I know it is a maintenance tool. However I have a few questions about it, it is safe to use? Can it cause system instability? (Cache out X does that), How has been your experience with it?
I'm asking this just to know if its worth installing in my Mac, because I don't want a tool that says it will increase system performance, and then when you run it, you'll end up with an under performing system giving you a lot of error logs that take hard drive space away.

We'll have to agree to disagree there. It's a good safety net for the less computer savvy. Like keeping your kids away from such utilities.
All I'm asking for is for OnyX to ask for admin credentials when being launched from a non-admin account. Then, if the non-admin user can't enter the admin password, then the program would simply quit. If an administrator is there to authenticate, then the administrator can launch and use it to maintain and/or repair the non-admin account. That is 100% completely as secure as the situation now.
But the current situation is that it will simply refuse to open at all under a non-admin account, meaning that not even an administrator can use it to repair or maintain a non-admin account. That isn't any additional layer of security. It's quite the contrary; it's preventing an administrator from administering the computer.
Right now the only workaround to get OnyX to do any maintenance on a non-admin account is to temporarily promote that account to admin. I would argue that that is a heck of a lot less secure than simply allowing an administrator to launch the app from the non-admin account without having to promote the whole account to admin.
All admin utilities provided by Apple - Software Update, all the secure System Preferences, Disk Utility, Workgroup Manager, even sudo on the command line, all allow themselves to be run from any non admin account, by an administrator who can enter the admin password. All of this conforms to Apple's security guidelines. OnyX is broken if it doesn't follow those guidelines.
The OnyX developer seems to assume that everyone runs all the time in an admin account, and it will only clear browser caches in admin accounts. The fact that Apple warns against even browsing the web while logged in to an admin account shows that the OnyX developer has a thing or two to learn about security configuration.

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone. Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

"An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer" error on sync

I recently resurrected an old original iPhone to use as an iPod touch (no phone contract) and started syncing it to my home Mac Mini, which is where I sync nearly all of my iPhone 3G data from. I can't honestly say which was the last iPhone to successfully sync, but I just docked my iPhone 3G for the first time in a few weeks and got an error, "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer". It's only allowing me to either set it up as a new phone, or to restore from either my 2G or 3G iPhone backup.
I don't want to restore; I've added a load of apps, notes, photos, etc since the last archive on that Mac Mini.
NOTE: This home Mac Mini syncs all the iPod content to my 3G. My MacBook Pro syncs the Pictures to the 3G. And all calendar/contact data is synced OTA (over the air).
(I have been regularly syncing/backing up to my MacBook Pro while I've been on the road. So I do have a valid archive on that system.)
I don't understand why I'm getting this error. It's almost as if I can't sync multiple iPhones to the same computer, but AFAIK that's not correct.
I suppose I could move an archive from the MBP over to the Mini and restore from a valid archive, but that seems obtuse.
What would cause this error? I can't update my music/tv/podcasts on here until I get this sorted out… bugger!

Now this may seem crazy, but there is a possibility that this could be the cause of bad reception if the antenna is in the back shell of the phone and by blocking it with your palm you could interfere with the reception. Crazy I know, but I have heard of much crazier things with new phones and technology.

When I start iTunes and select my iPhone device, I get the message: "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer". It's the same phone that I have used on the same computer since I bought it. ITunes is giving me two options, neither of which is acceptable. One is to erase the whole thing and set up the phone as new and the other is to restore the phone from a backup. I don't want to lose all of the data I have acquired since the last backup. Please help. Using Mac Book Air iTunes 10.6.3.

Workflow Shows as 'In Progress' after Workflow has been completed.

Hello All,
I have created a custom workflow using SharePoint Designer. Within this workflow I have multiple 'approval process' tasks. In theory this was so that once the first user had approved the item then the next would be prompted to approve the item, and
so on. The users that the item must be approved by are set when the item is submitted initially.
Just so anyone reading this knows I have no formal experience/education in SharePoint workflow design, but I would like to think I know my way around SharePoint(in general) at this point.
My problem is, the company I work for is just starting out using SharePoint workflows, and from what I understand workflows that are 'In Progress' are related to server performance. I noticed today that there are 5 items in the list which
under the 'workflow status' column display that they are 'In Progress' which is entirely correct. However, when I go to -> 'List Settings' -> 'Workflow Settings' this workflow is showing 8 workflows 'In Progress'.

According to your post, my understanding is that workflow shows as 'In Progress' after Workflow has been completed.
To send the task one by one, you can select one at a time(serial) when you select Task Process Participants.
Per my knowleadge, when you go to -> 'List Settings' -> 'Workflow Settings', it show all the workflows you associated to the list.
To see the running workflow, you need to select an item, right click the title, and then select the workflow.
However, each workflow enstance can only start once on an item. In other word, you can not start the same workflow again untill the previous one is completed.
As you said, workflow shows as 'In Progress'.
Please make sure all the users have approved the tasks.

Customising the "Action has been completed" page

Does anyone know how to customise the page that is shown to a user when they go back to a completed activity?
By default you have a white page with the info picture and the words " Action has been completed"
I was wondering if anyone knows how to customise this completed page so that it shows something a bit nicer? (a static HTML page would be great to put in its place)

Hi Danny,
This can be achieved by using the "Callable Object for Display". if you are not aware there are two types of callable objects.
1. Callable Objects for Execution (The one that we use mostly) - this callable object is called by the GP runtime when then user is executing the step.
2. Callable Objects for Display - this callable object will be called when the execution for the step is already complete. And during later stage user comes back and clicks on some previous step.
