Boot from your install disk and when you reach the Install screen choose Change Password from the Utilities menu.

A message saying "ethernet has a self assigned IP address and will not connect to the internet" comes up whenever I plug the cable in. Everyone's computers work except for mine work in the house and I have tried different cords and connecting sites.

Select the Location you use at home
You may need to click the Padlock bottom left at this point if it's locked, enter the admin password to unlock
In the left hand column drag the Ethernet connection to the top of the list and remove any you don't use
Click the Advanced button bottom right
Click the TCP/IP Tab
Set Configure IPv4 to Using DHCP
Click OK bottom right and you should see the Router IP number appear and a unique but similar one for your Mac
Click Ok then click Apply and close the Panel -
For some reason I need to double tap everything to access apps, menu etc. Also, I cannot scroll down past what is appearing on the screen. Any suggestions for help? Please.

I bought Macbook Pro in May, 2012. It was working great until Safari started crashing. After hours of reading posts and calling Apple Support, I finally had to take it in to the Apple Store and have the whole computer wiped and reset. When I got it back, it goes straight to the main open screen without requiring a password. Thats fine, except I am trying to reload Office for Mac and I need a password to get it to load. My old passwords will not work anymore, obviously. How do I load Office then?

I had a repair done on my MacBook Pro and had to have a new hard drive installed. The Apple Auth Repair Shop then updated the OS from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5. Now my iPhoto v 9.2.3 will not open and it sounds like it will not work with this OS. Can you please advise?
You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X. You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -

From the App Store menu bar top of your screen click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
If that doesn't help, disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband (high speed internet) access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation. -
Hi, I have connected my iPhone 5 to iTunes, backed it up and then started the update but there was a problem, now my phone will not work, it asks to restore factory settings which I have tried 3 times, each time it says the device has an unknown error and the phone switches off. Please help.
Same thing happened with my iPhone 4S - no one is any help. Thanks Apple for such a crappy update! I've called Apple, they say the SIM card needs replacing, I go to my service provider they tell me nothing wrong with the SIM card - provider tells me I now need a new phone. Sheesh! If someone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Lion installed on my mac. My desktop and screensaver, in system preferences will not load. I have to Force close it, after it's been open. I know that I
can change my desktop pic, by clicking "change my desktop, but I would like to understand what made it freeze up like that. All I get is that thing that looks like a piece of candy. From there, it does nothing. The rest of the system preferences work fine. It's like its caught in a loop of some kind. I would appreciate any help that I can get. Updated to IOS6 and now my apps will not update on the Ipad2. I have to delete them and then re-install. But I have several hundred apps and this is cumbersome. Seems the new software is too buggy. I am telling people not to update software yet.
Basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

After a Mac update, flash player (along with silverlight) asked to be installed when I tried to watch video content or play games. I installed flash player and it reports being successful and appears in my applications. However, I cannot watch videos or play games, every time I am asked to install flash player again and again and again. I suspect this has something to do with plugins but I am not sure. I have un-installed the program and reinstalled but it still will not work. I check my security settings and it does allow plugins. I erased my temporary internet files. I don't know what else to do. I just installed what I thought was Directx 11. The latest file update I downloaded is only 9. dxwebsetup.exe from Microsofts web.
I have a Dell XPS 8100. I was on the phone with AMD/ATI, DELL, and XFX. Dell said the card was an ATI, and AMD/ATI said that ATI now just makes the chips. I tried Sapphire ATI 5770 and they didn't work, then I tried a program the took off all the drivers and I got the Dell drivers from the web, thinking that they are on OEM and with the DP Adapter, I finally got the 3rd ATI Eyefinity monitor to work. I tried Cuty of Duty and it worked for a couple of minutes. I'm not into games, but I like the three monitors for learning software. One monitor is the video training and one is the software and the other is the Internet or an ebook.
Now Premiere doesn't like anything. I tried going back to one monitor, and different resolutions. I had two monitors working at one time on this computer. I like the Time line monitor window on it's own monitor and the rest of Premiere on the left monitor.
I was reading that Premiere likes 1280 x 900. That is not a mode on the ATI 1280 x 960 or 1280 x 1024.
Could it be the latest Directx it installed or the fact the Display Port is in the card? -
I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine. I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one? Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well? It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.
