My mac has osx 10.6.8 but when i run a software update to ios it says it is up to date
my mac osx has 10.6.8 then irun the ios update and it says i am current
If you associate the "iOS 5 update" with the OSX Lion 10.7.2 update then you have to buy OSX Lion from the Mac App Store.
OSX Lion is a paid upgrade (not update) for USD 29

i'm trying to update from OS X 10.6.8. when I run the sofware update nothing shows up. I need iCloud.
Make sure your system meets the requirements for Mountain Lion:
Mac OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" System Requirements
To install Mountain Lion, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (RAM)
8 GB or more of available hard disk space
If your system does not support Mountain Lion's requirements, you may be able to upgrade to Lion. To do that you must call Apple again to order a download code. Redeem the download code in the App Store to download Lion.
Make sure your system meets the requirements for Lion:
Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" System Requirements
Mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon CPU
Core Duo CPUs are not sufficient for Lion
2GB of memory (RAM)
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
To determine which Mac you have, what kind of CPU it uses, and how much memory is installed: > About this Mac
The specified 2 GB minimum is barely adequate for either Lion or ML. They will run in 2 GB but you may not like its performance. 4 GB is a more realistic minimum. -
I updated my iphone to IOS 6 which means i also need to update my itunes. When i tried to do this it said I need to update software but when I click on software update, it searches and then says no updates available. Can anyone help me please? thankyou very much
10.5.8 is the final version of Leopard. After that you need a paid-for upgrade to Snow Leopard - if your Mac can run it:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from download, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30. You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard. -
my mac is running 10.5.8, I bought a new Nano, itunes is prompting me to get the current itunes, but my mac will not take it, states I need 10.6.8. How do I get that? When I run a software update, system says there is none. Help
Click here, check that your computer meets the requirements, buy and install the DVD, and then run Software Update.

I'm trying to update my iphone, but when I download the software update and then when it is "complete" a message pops up stating that it has been timed-outed and to try again later. This is the 5th time i've tried. And i am getting very annoyed. Can anyone help me?
Disable your firewall/security software and try again.

Some sites(like youtube for instance) want me to update Safari but when I go to Software Update under the apple it says there are no updates. What do I do now?
Upgrade the computer’s OS, or switch to a product such as Firefox.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

I have OSX 10.6.4 and when I go to software update it says I am up to date......what to do?
Hi,
I did this but it did not work. I notice that SoftwareUpdate.plist when I have dragged it to the desktop is still in Preferences.
Also, I am doubtful that I am really in safe mode as it does not say so and when I press shift on start up tone i get rapid non-stop flashing of smaller grey symbols: do not enter, question mark, apple logo; so, in order to get the flashing to stop I momentarily release the shift and the larger grey apple logo comes up and then I press shift as quickly as I can then I release it as the gears start spinning.
I really appreciate your time and trouble on this. -
I keep being asked to update my Safari but when I do a Software update it scans but never gives me a list and just says no new updates. Help please!
There are no updates to either OS 10.5.8 or Safari 5.0.6.
If you need a later version of Safari you must first upgrade your operating system to a later version of OS X. -
I'm running OS 10.4 and purchased Mac Box Set with Snow Leopard. When I run the Snow Leo install it errors saying I need OS 10.5 to run the install. How do I get around this? I've read that it's possible to go direcectly from 10.4 to 10.6.

my settings app has got the red 1 to say that there is a notification/update, but when i go to update it it says that i am on 6.1.4 and i am full up to date, what else could this notification mean?
If the MBP is new why do you think it needs updating to 10.8.4? What version is currently installed?

I have iPad 2 but I am not getting software update for iOS 7, how do I update my iPad?
.
iOS 7 has not been launched yet. iOS 7 will be released in fall for iPhone 4 and newer, iPad 2 and newer, iPad mini and 5th generation iPod touch, and you will be able to get it in Settings > General > Software Update, or from iTunes. See > http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7

my macknook pro is incredibly behind in updates. however when selecting software update it says there are no updates. i can't do much with it due to nothing running on the software i have currently.
To get to the next release of OS X, which is Snow Leopard 10.6, you must purchase the install DVD for it from Apple.
This is the next required upgrade from 10.5. Once you get there then you can consider upgrading to newer version if your MBP will support them. -
Ever since I updates to mountain lion I can' use gotomypc because it says I need to install java. When I follow the instructions to install by going to software update there is nothing to update in the app store. How do I manually install java?
just found an answer on another feed
Re: mountain lion java
In spotlight, type in Java, and click on Java Preferences in the list - it will then start downloading and installingthe new version. (my java version is now 1.6.0_33-b03-424) -
My mac has OSX version 10.8.2 and I'm try to install an aiport express base station which requires 10.5.7 or later. Yet when I try to install the software it says the base station is not compatible with my mac version - how do I resolve?
You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
What happens? -
I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?
It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1. If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

Recently I noticed that the equalizer on iTunes 11.2.2 doesn't stay active. If I set the EQ and play a playlist, the EQ shows it's "on" by the checkmark, but the effect is actually shut off. If I change any of the sliders, the sound shaping turns o
