If you are using an HDMI connection, go to Apple / System Preferences / Sound and see if you can select the Built-In Speakers?
If you have headphones, buds or something plugged into the Audio Output jack, unplug it.
If not then perhaps the micro switch inside the Audio Output jack is stuck? In that case, try plugging and unplugging some headphones, buds or something in and out a few times to see if it will un-stick.
If it will not un-stick, then you will need to make an appointment for service.

    Hi talero,
Contact AppleCare or bring it into an Apple Store or AASP.

  • My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened?

My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened? If I plug in earbuds or external speakers, there is sound. In sound preferences, internal speakers are not a choice. Why doesn't my internal speakers work?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

Are they selected under System Preferences>Sound? Or do you see something such as "Digital Output" listed instead of "Internal Speakers"?
It may be that your digital out switch is 'stuck.' This usually happens after using headphones and you can usually see a red light coming from the audio out port. You can 'fix' this by plugging and unplugging a headphone jack repeatedly until the switch is reset.

  • G4 MDD 1.42 ghz dual, internal speaker does not work

I rebuilt a G4 MDD 1.42 ghz dual processor from a machine that did not boot. Had to replace the power supply and install the proper ram. The machine boots now and works fine. It does not make the chime on startup through the internal speaker. It does chime when externals are plugged in. I have checked all the settings in system preferences and everything looks okay. Checked the audio midi controls in utilities and all checked out. Reset the pram and still no internal speaker. Could the speaker itself be the culprit or am I missing something?

I suspect the trouble is with the jack, not the speaker.
Some Mac notebooks suffer a jammed muting contact within the jack that may be happening with your tower. Did you Open System Preferences > Sound, click the "Output" tab, and see if the internals show up? I know you say you checked the settings but, if the internal speaker is not clearly indicated on that tab, the mute contact is probably jammed.
People with notebooks suffering this are very often able to free it by inserting a plug and GENTLY wiggling it from side to side and up/down.

  • Internal Speaker Laptop NOT WORKING

    Hi Guys,
I have problem with my laptop that is HP Compaq 510, OS: window 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
My speaker internal laptop is not working. However, for speaker output to headphone jack is working. So, it will be grateful if anyone can give solution and suggestion for this problem.
    Thank in advance
    Beezs

    Hi,
Since the headphone is working, its not a problem with the OS or the sound drivers on the computer.
    Check the volume.
For me it looks like a Hardware issue. Contact the HP Service center if the computer is in warranty. They will fix this issue for you

The left side speaker (Only the left side) of my laptop is working intermetently. Sometimes it's working, sometimes not. When I tried to tap hard the laptop near the left speaker, sometimes it work but a crackling sound or not clear sound is coming. Should I replace the speaker or a wire inside is loose?

    Hello Rick_of_Jonghap,
I understand that the speakers on your notebook computer are not working properly, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To restore the audio to your notebook, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 7). This should help with the playback on your system.
In addition, you can also follow @SuperMario1's thread on Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time. This guide should help with your notebook's audio output in regards to a recent Windows Update.
For more assistance, I will need to know:
    1. If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates.
    2. If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant.
    3. If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
    4. If plugging in headphones produce the same problem.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • HT1338 my internal speakers are not working

I went to the sound preferences, thru my system preferences menu, and my internal speakers are not listed as a choice in the "select a device for sound output". It's like the computer doesn't acknowledge their presence. I can get sound thru my headphones but not thru the built in speakers

    First reset the PRAM:

If that doesn't do it, reset the SMC:

  • Internal speakers are not working,  they're not showing up at all. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My computer's speakers are not putting out sound. They worked fine yesterday, and I just now started up my computer and began using it today. The internal speakers don't show up on my list of output devices in settings, and I can't adjust the volume. Any help is really appreciated!!!

They are all in the same folder and it says all images are there, but it is only showing 1 card's images at a time. Does anyone know how to fix this?
This is kind of confusing, on the one hand you say "it says all images are there" and then you directly contradict this by saying "it is only showing 1 card's images at a time".
Could you explain in a lot more detail what you see (and don't say "it", say exactly what part of Lightroom or what part of your operating system you are looking at), or show us a screen capture?

  • My internal speakers are not working, but my computers says they are

I get no sound with or without headphones it.  I have gone into settings and made sure that I have selected internal speakers as the output device, and that they are not muted.  Everything in the settings indicates that the sound is working fine, but I can't hear anything through the speakers.  I have also checked to make sure sound is turned on in the applications I am using.

    First reset the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
If that doesn't do it, reset the SMC:

  • My internal speakers are not working

When I go into Settings/sound/output only Digital Out - Optical digital out port is visible and Interanl speaker is not.
Sound is not working on any apps or iTunes

Your machine sounds as if it is stuck in digital mode, there is a micro switch in the headphone port that sometimes will get stuck. Try taking a set of headphones and plugging them in and out several times to try to free the switch. (Sometimes a slight "wiggling" of the phone jack can help as well)
You can also go to applications/utilities/Audio MIDI set up, click the output tab and see if you can select built in speakers in the left side bar. You can also try a pram reset:
Power off the MBP, power back on holding the following keys, OPTION-COMMAND-P-R press these after the power button and hold till you hear the start chime 2 times and release, reboot see what you have.
