My mac is mac os 10.5.8, will it accept the mac os 10.6 disk?
My computer will not play videos off of sites like youtube, espn, etc... because it says the plugin won't load or my flash player needs to be updated. My current OS won't support the neccessary flash upgrade or plugin. Will my computer be able to upgrade the OS so that it will support these things and so it will play videos? How do I go about upgrading my OS?
If you have at least 1GB of memory and free disk space, you can upgrade to OS X 10.6.
To upgrade, call the online Apple store, which in the US is at 800-MY-APPLE, or order OS X 10.6 online at http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard . Install it, do Software Updates until no more are available, which will get you to OS X 10.6.8.

i erased everything from my macbook and try to reinstall the MAC os x 10.4.9. but now when i restart my computer the screen is grey with a file folder marked with a "?" flashing. when the dics is already already inserted and i restart it, regardless if i hold down the "c" or "d" key with rebooting, the disc is automatically ejected and then it goes back to the grey screen with the flashing "? folder".
if i was to try and reinstall the "for mac computers" os x 10.5.4 the computer will load the disc and bring me to the language select menu but as soon as i click the "next" button it tells me that the software is not able to be installed on that computer.
i have no clue what to do. the computer was working COMPLETELY fine before i erased something.Yikes, what happens or shows if you hold the Option or alt key on bootup?
The 10.5.4 Disc at least sounds like a Gray Machine specific Disk, or wrong Partition Scheme!???
Does that one allow Disk Utility to run?
Did you Erase to GUID?

My mac picks up my home network but will not accept the password
Just got my mac intel and started it up, went through the start up process and it picked up my home network. When I put in the password that works will all other items on the network eg I Phones, printer and playstation, it tells me there was an error with the airport.

What type of router and what type of encryption does it use?
1. Remove the following files to the trash:
Macintosh HD > LIbrary > Preferences > System Configuration >
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.nat.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.smb.server.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
2. Remove the the saved password for the network:
Open "Keychain Access"
Search the keychain for the name of your wireless network and delete all references to it
3. Shut the computer down entirely
4. Turn off your wireless router for 5 minutes. Usually unplugging the power to the router is how you turn it off.
5. Turn the wireless router back on
6. Turn the computer back on and attempt to join the network and very carefully enter the password for your network.

Anyone know which render format I should use, my film will be used on a video wall (12 screens) and I need super quality. My footage format is 1080p HD resolution 1920x1080. I will be running the project from a mac with a direct line to video wall. Thanks in advance.
I do some VJ-type work, involving playback of QuickTime files from the computer to projections, and I get good results using ProRes 422. That's convenient, because ProRes 422 is such a great editing codec, too.
Traditionally, VJs use PhotoJPEG codec, which also works well, but it's a bad editing codec. So you would have to export an edited master, then convert.
If you want it to look as good as possible, definitely schedule some time to test the footage on the wall. You may want to change the color correction of your footage to match the projectors. And if you feed the video wall some flat gray, you can see if any of the projectors need to be adjusted.
I'm not sure what application you're using for playback, but QuickTime Player 7 works well. It has an option to play fullscreen on an external monitor (View > Present Movie…). -

I cant' sync my ipod because it says"The iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. I can't download it because my MAC is version 10.5.8 and it won't accept the newer version of itunes. Any suggestions?

Hhow much goal and free hard disk space is available? Sounds like you need to move some things off of that hard drive.

IPAD 2 Won't Charge on USB port on my laptop, my desktop Mac but will charge via the wall plug
I am confused on what to do with my IPAD 2. It won't charge via my USB Port on my PC that I travel with. Also I just purchased a new desktop Mac and it will not charge on that USB port either. But it will charge via the Wall Plug that came with it. I am worried when I travel to different countries to use the wall plug. I have an adapter to switch power. I am from Canada and travel oversees where the power is 240 vs the 120 at home. If I use my plug adapter and plug in my ipad to the wall Will I destroy the battey in my IPAD 2. I love my ipad to travel with but it is very frustrating when it will not charge on my PC or on the airplane. Then I am afraid to use the wall plug in the airport because of the difference in power. Would really appreciate some help here because I am oversees 2 weeks a month and only get a couple days use of my IPAD. I have all my books and everything on it and need to be able to recharge it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Confused!!!!For better future reference, you should be aware that the voltage means nothing when it comes to charging power. All that that is telling you is that the Power Adapter will work across that voltage range, i.e., you don't need a transformer to plug it into the outlet (although you may need different plugs, which is a separate topic).
What matters is the amperage (A) and the power in watts (W). The Power Adapter puts out 2 A @ 5 VDC (volts DC), which means it's producing 10 watts of power. It will output that across the entire voltage range.
A high-power USB port on a PC will put out 0.5A @ 5VDC, or 2.5 W. Be aware that not all of the ports on any given PC are likely to be putting out even that much power, at may well be putting out less than half as much. That's why you'll often see the "Not Charging" when plugged into a USB port, especially on Windoze laptops, and why it will charge very slowly even when it works.
FYI, the charger which is sold with the iPhone looks identical, is called the same thing, but only puts out 1A. It will work on the iPad but will charge more slowly. By that same token, the iPad charger will charge an iPhone just fine, it will just charge faster. -
I have an Apple Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz/6GB RAM/500GB HDD/Superdrive PowerPC Desktop and just bought an Airport Extreme card for it. The card is recognized but will not see the in-house network. This is a pre-intel computer. Do I need an additional antennae? If so, which one because my research is confusing me about what is supposed to work with this computer.

Missing Mac Mini Restore DVD disk 2, need to Cancel Installation
hi, I'm a Mac newbie. I recently bought a mac mini from someone. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that there should be 2 restore dvds instead of just one (I thought the Os X Tiger drop in dvd was the 2nd dvd).
I'm trying to reinstall the OS X along w/the software b/c I ran into some problems with the Mac mini. But when I get to the screen that says, "please insert Disk 2", I have no disk 2. I can't cancel the installation b/c the Cancel button is grayed out. I tried shut down and restart the computer from disc one directly, but after click through a series of Next buttons, it only leads me to the same screen.
Now I can't use my Mac mini at all. Short of fork over $40 for a replacement dvd from Apple, is there anyway I can restore to the previous point prior to my attempted installation/cancel the current installation?

Mac Book Pro on boot up, the apple sign will appear with the spinning wheel. After a period of time the screen will turn grey, but the mouse will still operate, but not boot up.
If it was purchased brand new then it's running a version of Lion, so to reinstall Lion:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button. -

I have iMovie 09. I just erased my external hard drive, but it is still formatted for the mac. However, iMovie will not recognize the hard drive. It shows the only hard drive available is the computers. How do I get the external hard drive to show up?
In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
