My Mac is part of my life.

I forget my password of my macbook pro 15" with retina what should i do?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
          Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select
           ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Can't update iPhoto, because Mac is part of Up-to-Date Program

I had some interesting mail traffic with Apple, but now I am stuck.
I bought a Macbook Pro early August this year. When I open my App-Store it says that I have one update for iPhoto. When I click the update-button, it says that I have to buy the product. I mailed Apple to ask why I can not update, since I bought my Mac after Lion was released and I should have the rights to download any update for the software that comes with it. After a long conversation the status quo is: I either have a refurbished Mac, which is not the case, or my Mac is part of the Up-to-Date program. This means that initially Leopard was installed on my computer and Apple just changed the OS to Lion. All good with me, but I ordered a Macbook with Lion, not one with an updated system that causes problems, ie gives apple more money since I have to buy software now.
Can I get a new Mac with Lion as the initial OS or can Apple give me some codes that allow me to get the updates for free?
    Thanks for any reply.

If you purchased iPhoto through the MacApp store (MAS) then you can update via the MAS. There have been some bugs in how the update is displayed in the MAS. The key is - where did you get iPhoto from - the MAS or via the MBP when you purchased and iPhoto was already installed on the MBP.

If you can, you want MATCHED, TRIPPLE CHANNEL, ECC registered ram with the same timings as the original ram.  I found that 1333mhz ram of that type is a bit easier to find these days (any faster ram will work in the your macpro).  Anyhoo, I found 12 GB of ram 3x4gb (oh yeah, and tripple channel ram likes to be installed in three's so if you can stick with only 3 chips of ram unless you are making it out or something.) for like $150.  If you keep your eyes pealed you can get a great deal.

  • 20th anniversary mac service parts

I'm curious if anyone has ideas on how I might find a CD-ROM to replace the CD-ROM in a 20th Anniversary Mac.
I have a TAM a friend used, and I'm trying to ready it for sale.  If you put in a CD, you hear the CD clicking, but the CD doesn't spin.  I've tried manually moving the spindle (as some older CD-Drives of that nature would sometimes have lubrication problems), but no luck.
I've searched the web all over and cannot find if the service parts may even exist.  The drive is unique in that it opens to reveal the disc in place (rather than having a slot, a caddy, or a door that holds the disc). So even though that machine has a lot in common with the Powerbook 3400, the CD-ROM drive is different.
    Ideas?

I don't know if you still need help on fixing your TAM CD device. I had the same problem.
As you know, CD devices for the TAM are rarely available on eBay and cost a fortune (last auction I saw maybe went for 200 bucks or more). The Apple 600i SCSI CD-ROM (tray-loading) internally is very similar to the design of the TAM CD.. They regularly pop up on eBay for $10 to $20. Model CR-504-C appears to be the closest match.
I bought one for $10, opened it up and discarded the casing. The circuit board is identical except for a couple wires controlling opening/closing the loading tray, and an IC chip. The motor mechanism is an identical match. I swapped the motor assemblies (carriage and all) after transferring over the rubber grommets for the TAM. Put my TAM back together, and the CD works flawlessly!
If your problem is not with the motor carriage, then you can try using the circuit board after swapping the IC chip. If it's a problem with the chip, this solution may not work. Seems to me, there is a much higher possiblity of the motor assembly going bad than with the chip.
There is currently an auction on eBay for several of these devices for $15 with free shipping. Can't hurt, only $15. Search eBay for AppleCD 600i CR-504-C. - Fred

  • Lightroom on a Mac & PC (Part 2)

I am also in the process of moving to a Mac environment and just bought and installed Lightroom on my MacBook Pro.
I am planning to also install it on my Vista PC where I have PS3, Dreamweaver CS3 and Acrobat Pro installed.
    1) Will Adobe sell or give me a copy of the software I have installed on my PC a reduced cost (Like the price of the disks?) for my Mac?
    2) Can I install and use Camera RAW on my Mac understanding that I do not have PS installed on it? (Like is it just a Plug-in for PS or will it work as a standalone for Lightroom?)
I suppose I could just install Lightroom in a Boot Camp partition where I have PS3 installed on my Mac, but that sure is not my first choice.
Thanks for any wisdom out there!

And now I am wanting more from my IIvx.
I got the puzzle and TeachText working. Is there any way to get a drawing application, and any way to get the CD caddy to work? And maybe teach me how to get more goodies on to my computer?

    Thank you for your help!

    MulliganChebichev
In the IIvx you have the second-fastest of the Macintosh II series, with specifications as shown. What is meant by 'get the CD caddy to work'? Is it literally the caddy, or the 2x drive as a whole?
If you have been inside to replace the backup battery (for all machines, the second thing to do after bringing home and putting a recently acquired Mac on the table), you will have been able to check the SCSI and power connections to the hard drive, CD-ROM drive and floppy drive. Does the CD-ROM not open, not read CDs, or, just lie low and say nuffing?
Your options for media to use in installation of software include CD, floppy disks and ethernet (with a NuBus ethernet card, for Web connection). CD is least fuss. Web is most rewarding, in variety and immediacy. The IIvx can support Systems up to 7.6.1. System 7.5.5 is achievable by free download of 7.5.3 and upgrade, and will support TCP/IP connection to the WWW.

  • Full motion parts go blank once on Macs

I created some tutorials for work using Captivate 3. The
exported versions (html) work just fine on PCs. On macs however,
every single part where you'd find full motion video (ex: using a
scroll bar, highlighting text, etc.) goes
blank. Obviously this is a major problem because we can't
put a "PC only" version of our tutorials, especially since we have
    many Mac users as clients.
When we tested on both the PCs and the Macs, you had the
    exported
    html file surrounded by multiple
swf files, each of which is one of those full motion videos.
For some bizarre reason, PC's find and play those clips just fine
when their time comes, while on Macs these parts of the tutorials
go blank, like they can't find the swf files even though they are
    at the exact same place.
We tested on multiple OS and with all possible browsers. If
anyone has any idea why this might occur, please help.

On a PC, I have the same problem when I import the .swf file
    into Articulate Engage.

  • Mac vs PC for all in one audio/video workstation?

Well, I have been a Mac user for my whole life.
The more I get involved with motion graphics and post production, as well as audio, and considering the direction Adobe seems to be going with their apps, I am considering going to a PC.
PCs seem to have a much greater flexibility for GPUs in kind and variety, and numerous other modular external components, among other things. Not to mention the huge difference in price for the setup you get.
The consensus among my peers is that Mac is more stable, but that appears to be the only upside to using a Mac for post production. They also seem to be having a much shorter shelf life, which means I end up paying out more over a shorter and shorter time to do the same tasks. Apple seems to be ditching the pro market slowly buy surely.
If the new Mac Pro doesn't offer significant enhancements this go around, I think I am going to move to PC for pro video/audio. Hopefully it will even be offered by summer so I have something to compare.
Now, i dont have any interest in doing character animation of anything like that, but would like to do architectural rendering, motion graphics, and product modeling, and photo-real stills.
I would like to run Cinema 4d, use Vray with it, all the Adobe production and design apps, and Ableton, Pro Tools, and audio apps like that, with something like the Nvidia Maximus configuration (or better if I choose) in the box.
So to all of you out there in the industry, let me know what your perspective is on this. Or even if the Mac Pro stays relatively the same, will the new Nvidia K5000 be all the power I need to work efficiently with the above apps and goals?
And how do you feel about Cinema 4D vs 3DS Max for the above mentioned apps? Or something else a better app for what I would like to produce?
    Thanks in advance.

    That part is very true.
The consensus among my peers is that Mac is more stable
