My Mac is stuck at the login password

every time i try to login loads for a few seconds and then comes back and asks me again for the password it would be great if somebody could tell me the problem and or how to fix it, thank you.

I keep having a similar issue. I type in the CORRECT password, and it tries to start up, but then a message pops up saying something like "Cannot log into 'user account' at this time..." and then the login window shakes as if it were the incorrect password... I've tried this over and over, which eventually brings me to the option of changing the password using the master password. I've tried this, but the thing won't even take after that too! I also tried the whole deal with putting in the restore disc and holding the "C" button during startup. I tried the HD restore option, that doesn't erase all my existing files, and it still won't log in. I'm getting ready to call Apple tonight to figure this out, but hopefully someone may be able to shed some light on this issue before that???

Mac is stuck on the reset password screen.

If it hasn't got iOS 5+ pre-installed then you will need to connect it to a computer's iTunes in order to activate it.

    Restore OS X.
If your Mac has v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9 installed, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can restore OS X using OS X Recovery
For OS X prior to v10.7, boot from your install disc while holding down the C key.

I turned on filevault but after restarting i got stuck at the login screen. my trackpad is working but not clicking. i tried random keys and finally got to enter my password via keyboard. now i am afraid of shutting my mac , what to do?

There is a known problem and I am having exact same issue. Power cycling and internet cache does not fix the issue. When a connection to a server fails it has nothing to do with caching issues. It is a network issue on AT&Ts end in a localized region. It works in multiple towers in various locations but does not work where I am. I have reported this to AT&T.

  • Forgotten the login password at start-up. OS X Lion.

I have been a Mac owner since 1986 but have never encounter this problem.
My father who is 91 purchased an iMac in January used it once. He is now just setting it up again after he has recently moved and this will be his only computer… finally getting rid of the PC world of Bill Gates and into a real computer. However, he has forgotten the login password at start-up which was set-up at the Apple Store.
Can I reboot the machine with a CD (have one for Snow Leopard) and change administration details this way even though is running OS X Lion?
Thanks for your help in advance as for my 8 Macs in my own business (design company) I don't use login ids at machine start-up for my employees.

Thank you Frank. This looks like an easy and straightforward fix.
However, I won't know until Sunday as my father lives in Toronto (I am 2 hours away), so will have to wait until I his Mac up and running. Then back into the world of the internet, email, Skype and all that good stuff for him.

    Severia,
I tried your solution, but it did not work with my laptop. After I restart the laptop, the language does not change and I cannot type the password in English language. Do you have any other suggestion?
    Thank you.

Hi...I have this problem, everytime I want to print something out the mac asks me for the computer password...that is really becoming annoying after. That happened since I upgraded to mountain lion. How can I stop the computer from asking me that?

If you are printing via a Windows shared printer and it is the Windows user account that you are being prompted for then you can save this in the Keychain, as shown below.

  • My mac is stuck on the grey loading screen?

My mac, is stuck on the grey startup screen. I have tried everything that everyone has said. Yes, I have reset the PRAM, I have tried a safe reboot, I'm NOT resetting it! It just won't start up, I have a seagate 3TB backup drive, but I have no way to get inside the computer, so I can't activate it.
    Please help!

    Not resetting?
Well that presents a problem because you need to check the startup disk, repair the disk if necessary, or restore OS X using OS X Recovery
You can resstore from a Time Machine backup using OS X Recovery if necessary.

  • Agent stuck in the login state ..

    Hi,
one of agent is stuck in the login state . We are using the UCCE setup version-8.5. when i was trying to kill this agent session through PG CMD line (using procmon -->>>resetas Agent ID ) its showing "Agent already logged out or pending log out. AgentID=41332752" , but after doing this that agent not able to login on any Ext. error "showing this agent is alrady loged on".   Any one kindly help me to come out from this issue. We are using CTI toll kit for agent login.

    Hi,
If you get this message error "showing this agent is alrady loged on" only for one Extension.
Then you can deassociate and associate the device in th PG user for that phone.
I hope the issue you are talkin about the AgentID not able to login to any of the extension.
Then check in the t_Agent_Real_Time table for this agent's current state and the extension.
Login using the agentID in that extension and logout.

  • Macbook Pro stuck at the login screen

This morning I dropped my laptop by catching the charging cable the laptop fell on the floor but everything seemed to be normal.
I then decided to back up straight away so I started time machine. I stupidly started doing some user instensive things on my mac whilst this was going on e.g. playing a game which can sometimes crash. When it did crash I left it for half an hour or so to see if it would bring up force quit or switch out of the crashed programme. This didn't happen so, like i've done in the past, I hard reset holding down the power button.
When I turned on the mac everything seemed normal I got to the login screen and it offered to startup the computer as it was before I restarted. This was a bit odd as I normally get this message when i've actually logged in. My Backup drive also asked for a password which was also strange for the same reason. I then attempted to login to the computer I typed my password in. It was accepted and the screen went white and then went back to the login screen.
I repeated this a few times, restarting etc before I tried using disk utility in recovery mode. When verifying the disk no problems were found. Disk permissions found two problems, which unfortunately I can't remember (1 was to do with the library), I then repaired disk permissions. I tried to start again but got the same problem.
I then stared in safe mode. I'm now meant to be in safe mode but i'm not 100% sure as everything seems the same except everythign is very slow.
Midbackup my computer crashed so i'm wondering if there are any problems there (especially as it was the first backup I made on my new external HD). I'm now trying to backup in safemode but i'm not sure if that's the best thing to do (as not everything might not copy over and I could potentially ruin the first backup to my new external HD). Can anyone give me any advice on what to do next, tell me where I can test whether i'm in safe mode or not and let me know if I should be backing up in safemode.
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    UPDATE
After entering successfully what appeared to be safe mode, I restared the computer and tried logging in normally. I got the white screen (as normal) before I reached the login screen, and after entering my password it eventually did log me in. Everything seems normal but I still want to be sure. My computer seems very slow. I only have 1.25GB/4GB free of RAM and I only have two safari tabs open. I'm backing up now but i'm still a bit concerned.

there is no installation cd, i have hit the command r function and attempted to reinstall from the recovery option stored on the computer. I am connected to the internet. It keeps saying downloading extra components and then once completed just goes b ack to main screen with my old log in informaiton as if nothing has happened. I also attempted to try to do a back up from a restore log and nothing on that as well.

  • Reimaged MacBook Pro and forgot the login password set at Genius bar

I need help getting to the terminal to reset my password.
I recently had my MacBook Pro reimaged by staff at Genius Bar, (with OS X Yosemite).
We set a login password, however I forgot that password (late in the day, sun in my eyes, dog ate my homework...etc).
I know there's a way to get to the terminal from start up, but I can't remember the steps.
I'm fairly certain from the terminal, I can type passwordreset to get to the proper interface needed to reset my password and start restoring my old files.
    thanks

I am also on my forth hard drive on the same model.
When I unpacked the computer, the hard drive did not include OS X either. Actually, it was completely blank. Did not even have a partition table! I have also had random problems with the machine not charging.
I have replaced the drive myself with an SSD after figuring the Apple Certified technicians were incompetent. Now even the SSD is starting to fail
I have bought an HP laptop and setup Ubuntu on it. Hope it turns out better than my previous four various Mac models. All have had various repeating hardware issues that Apple Certified technicians have been unable or unwilling to correct.

  • What do you do when you forget the login password for your computer?
