My Mac is stuck on boot up screen

The other day, I realized that I lost my admin password and I had already forgotten my master password a long time ago. So I searched up online and attempted to use the single user mode. After a failed attempt, I turned off my computer. So last night, I attempted going on but was stuck on the white screen with the grey apple an the loading circuit. Plus, there's a disc stuck in the drive and I don't have my utility disc. So I tried the fsck -fy and it said it made some modifications but everything was okay. I also restarted the pram but it was still stuck. Also, if possible, I'd rather keep my information. And I have a 10.6. Not sure exactly but I think it's a 10.6.2

Have a look here for things to try, if you haven't already:

Even though the Mac isn't booting at the moment, try holding down the mouse button whilst attempting to boot - the stuck disk might eject.

  • My mac is stuck on white apple screen

My mac is stuck on the white screen with the apple on it but then it goes to a gray screen that overlaps the white one the gray one has a power symbol on it and says to turn computer on and off. I have tried it many times and it still wont start working.

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • My mac is stuck on a white screen that doesn't have anything on it

My family uses a mac so we each have our own account. When I logged out of mine, the mac went to its white loading screen. Sometimes our mac is a little slow so I thought nothing of it. Two days later, it's still stuck on the white screen. Help!

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Imac stuck on boot up screen

    Hi all
Right now my computer is stuck on boot up with the gray screen. First I tried the soft boot but nothing happened then I tried to start up From my Snow Leopard Cd and it popped it out of the computer. I do not know what to do next.
    Thank you.
    Sandy

    HI BGreg
I booted up my 10.6 Cd holding down the C Key. It went a second or two and then the CD popped out.
Something else I noticed that I did not mention before was a soft clicking sound that I thought was coming from my back up drive. So I shut the back up drive off and then tried starting up from the Imac again, without the disk. This time I got the question mark on the screen and that the soft clicking sound is coming from my computer.
I would like to try turning the back up drive back on and try your alt/option scenario with my Os cd in my Imac and see what happens.
    What do you think?
    Sandy
Ps.I just printed out the apple note info you highlighted and am going to read and try out soltutions!

  • Mac Mini stuck at boot after upgrading to Yosimite

    Hi All,
I am using mac Mini late 2012 model with 4 gb ram. I have recently upgraded to OSX Yosimite.
But now I am facing issue with it.
My Mac stops at boot. With Apple logo, grey/white screen and progree bar with 0% progress.
If I keep it as it is for some time, Mac mini temperature rises and i feel the heat while touching the mac mini. And still progress bar show 0% progress.
But when I switch it off with the help of power button and restart it, it works fine.
This happen every now and then. I have only monitor, Bluetooth mouse, wired keyboard and LAN cable attached to it. (WIFI stops working after upgrading to OSX now there is no wifi icon in system preferences or in task bar )
I have tried clean install also. But no success.
Please suggest why it stops at 0% progress bar. This is working fine before upgrading.
    Regards
    Siddharth

  • Stuck at boot up screen the Apple!

My iPhone 3G is stuck on the Apple boot screen. How can I re install the software or get the phone to boot up? I have tried the home button and power button. Please HELP!

It looks like you're going to have to do that, since DiskWarrior won't run, so you can't tell what might be wrong with the disk. I'd zero out the drive and then restore from your backup if possible; otherwise I'd reinstall from the OS X install discs, then Repair Disk, Repair Permissions, and then update to 10.4.7 using the 10.4.7 Combo Update.

  • Mac mini stuck at grey apple screen

I was in the process of streaming some music through itunes from a samba share when my mini locked up hard and I was forced to do a hard reboot, upon startup now the mini is always stuck at the grey apple screen.
I hear no startup sounds other then the disk firing up (no welcoming chime) and from what I've tried, the system seems unresponsive to startup options (ie. holding shift, command v etc.).
I tried the obvious and disconnected everything and tried to restart but had no luck. Has anyone else been able to revive a bricked (bricked from what?? ) mini?

Hi All, I am sharing the same problem.
I have a Intel Mini, last night woke it up and clicked on itunes, the arrow swithced to the pinwheel.
Clicked on itunes and it said the "application was not responding" tried to force quit and nothing happened except for the pin wheel, I was able to get the computer to restart, well that process froze up too.
I did a hard reboot and the gray screen came on with no dark grey apple. Shut it down from behind the mini, went on with other thing, came back turned it on from behind again, this time I got the grey apple and grey pin wheel but it didnt go any further.
I checked out this post, restarted the computer while holding down the "C" key with the leapord disk.
Went in to disk utility clicked repair disk, message said the disk couldnt be verified/repaired. I then went to the sartup menu and shut down.
Any idea someone could tell me what to do next?
