My mac is weird and slow

It's okay to visit many websites but not Facebook. Many applications run fast but not mail and microsoft word. Skype doesn't work. The login is slow as well. What happen and what should I do?

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions. Please complete your system profile preferences which is a complete blank.
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
Microsoft issues should be posted in their forums since it is 3rd party.  The same goes for Skype.

  • Can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

  • Even after the Mavericks Mac Mail update and showing my "All Mail" folder, Mail.app is still acting weird and slow.  Any further suggestions?

Even with the recent Mac Mail Mavericks update and showing my "All Mail" Gmail folder, Mail.app is still acting funky and slow.  Any further suggestions for getting Mail.app back to it's pre-Mavericks state?

Your description of the problem is rather vague, but I'll take a guess at what you mean.
Quit Mail if it's running. Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    sqlite3 L*/C*/*.mail/*/L*/*/*/C*.db vacuum; sqlite3 L*/M*/*/*/E*ex vacuum
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
You should see a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) appear below what you entered. If not, press return. You can then quit Terminal and relaunch Mail. Test.
Note: This procedure will have no effect unless you quit Mail when you begin.

  • My mac sounds weird and stuck

My Mac book pro is a 2011 device. Recently, it sounds weird frequently and stucks while weird sound happening. Someone know what happened?

Tried that and it didn't work. I found another thread with the same problem (https://discussions.apple.com/message/11817422#11817422)
What worked for me was using the Terminal:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
    /usr/bin/drutil eject.

  • PB 12" 1.5GHz acting weird and slow

    Hi All,
I'm from India and I'm new to the forum, though I've been a reader here for a very long time. My two and a half year old PowerBook has suddenly started to slow down. And I have no clue why... I have about 11GB HD space left out of possible 80GB.
System Memory is 512MB. And most of the time the Memory Monitor shows about 6-10MB memory free. rest are wired, active or inactive. These are just some of the pointers I have though I am not technically good enough to figure out what it means. Following are the list of problems:
    1. Sometimes, 'Safari' quits unexpectedly without warning. And it's slow especially when there are a few web browser windows active at the same time. And it is more so, if the battery is being charged at the same time.
    2. It is almost impossible to put it on the lap and work while the battery charges as it heats up quite a lot.
    3. It is almost impossible to switch between 3-4 active Safari or Firefox tabs quickly. It takes a while before the i actually get to see the tab I have switched on to. in the meantime the apple 'rainbow circle' (i dont know what they call it) /system busy sign is all I get to see. This has become a 'very real' pain now.
Though my PB's APP is valid till august/september, it's a little difficult to find good Apple Engineers in this part of the world. Also most of the latest or better accessories are either not available or are prohibitively expensive in India. I really had to pay more than double of USD equivalent in one of Apple Stores in India for a bottle of iKlear. That should give you guys an idea about what I'm talking about.
Anyway, right now I need some advice as to what's the right way to go about my PB. Many thanks in advance...

    Dear Cornelius & BGreg,
Apologies for the silence at my end. Was out for a much needed little break. Anyway, here's what I tried:
1.Took BGreg's suggestion and downloaded & ran Onyx. everything looks OK. Or at least that's what it says. One small detail i forgot to mention was that I was using 'IceClean' on a few occasions till now. I would really like to know if any of you used it and if it is any good.
    2. My installer CDs etc. are in a different city right now along with the original packing case. Therefore could not run the tests you suggested. But the Onyx report says – ‘S.M.A.R.T. status verified.
This disk seems to be working correctly’ and ‘the startup volume appears to be OK’. This I guess is all right. Or is it?
    3. As per BGreg's suggestions, I had deleted the ‘Safari’ plist files. And after that safari seems to be ok too.
    4. Going by the ‘Activity Monitor’ reports, looks like I need to upgrade the RAM at the earliest. I’m already in the process of finding out the details from the Apple Stores/Service Centers. I am not sure if I can get the ‘Crucial’ brand in India. But, it looks like ‘Kingston’ is available. Have not been able to find out about the third possible alternative – Samsung. Also, I must tell you guys that everything to do with an ‘Apple’ in India is way expensive compared to the ‘web sites’ and ‘on-line stores’ for Apple accessories and ‘software’ you guys keep suggesting in USA & UK or elsewhere in EU. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I should be able to get this done. Will surely come back on this one as soon as I hear back from the Service guys.
    5. Here comes the most crucial part. Yes, I have used up almost 90% (87% to be precise) of the HD space till date. And I need some space badly. That’s where the dilemma is. My options are as follows:
A- Delete some useless/old data which I no longer need, free up some space – which is another 10GB or so. I can take these back-ups on DVDs also and keep them aside.
B- Replace the present 80GB disk with a larger one. And use the current one inside a casing as a back-up disk. It’s possible, right? Option A can still be part of this process.
C- I read in ‘Super Duper’ User Guide that it’s been tested on a few external drives and I think I can only get my hands on either ‘lacie’ or ‘maxtor one touch’ in India. This would actually mean that I have to have another drive i.e. a 2nd external drive for regular file transfers etc. Therefore, ideally the 1st external drive, to which my PB’s drive is cloned, can be of the same capacity (80GB now) or a little more (120/160)? This keeping in the future expansion in mind. But this as per the specs has to be a FW400 at least, if I have to boot from it.
D- I just go ahead and get a 120/160GB USB2.0 external drive and copy down the entire content of my PB as a regular back-up. This is a fairly cheap option in comparison to option B or C, but may not be the best one.
Hence I need your help once again. Please reply back as to how I should go about the HDD issue and what’s the best option. Also which are the compatible ones with my machine?
Thanks once again for all the help and for sharing your invaluable knowledge…
    Malaya

  • My MAC is running very slow and i am a complete novice and don't know what to do. i have had my Mac since 2008 and its probably in a mess. if you can help i would be grateful. EtreCheck version: 1.9.15 (52) Report generated 8 September 2014 09:09:26

My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in  mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. HELP please, never ever used a forum light this either so please go gentle on me. Cheers Paul

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

I can't stand peremptory affirmations like "Nothing is wrong with Safari".
Thousands of users can't be wrong (see the discussions).
If I read you the right way, it's never software' fault, it's the user who's the culprit.
    Amazing!
In this very case, the fact is we can't give to "christinefromfonthill" a good solution because weren't sitting in front of her Mac.
You give her a good advice which could, perhaps, lead to an improvement.
But must also admit that Safari is a very slow browser compared to Firefox or Chrome.
And you can't ignore all the problems which arose when upgrading to Lion and were related to the new build and specs of Safari 5.1.
The best example is the apparition of "garbage type" (use of Last Resort font) when reading numerous sites. This never occured before and is the direct consequence of Safari compliance to Web Open Type. This standard prohibits the use of Type 1 Postscript Fonts and is the reason why so many people are in trouble.
I use a Mac for more than 25 years.
I am a very "clean" user who hates the bells and whistles of third party.
My Mac is always up-to-date and despite all my Mac loving care, I run into some problems.
Imagine the nightmare which can occurs for the vulgum pecus who isn't, by definition, a power user aware of all the requirements for running a System in optimal conditions.
May be Safari is one step in advance on its time but lambda users are paying the price for it.

  • My Mac is running INCREDIBLY slow, Kernel-task and LR, PS, PSE, etc. are not functioning well.

Hi!  Been trying to follow a thread about the Kernel-task and slow Mac performance.  I did download EtreCheck and ran the report.  I am a photographer using LR 4 and Chrome is my main browser.  Both Chrome and LR (or PSE, or PS or Xee (a photo viewing app) make my computer run beyond ridiculously slow.  I have so much work to do for clients and I get stopped in the middle of editing and cannot move forward because my beloved Mac is having issues.  I did go through several old apps and the Application Support and Prefernces and deleted what I could of what I knew "what was what".  I would appreciate any help in getting my Mac back on track.  Thanks!
    - Amy
    Problem description:
My Mac is running incredibly sluggish.  Chrome continues to lag, and the spinning ball is ridiculous when I am working in LR.  I did the EtreCheck and the report is below.  I JUST cleared out my LR catalogs and now have just two folders in the catalog from a current wedding I am working on.  I will have to consider using separate catalogs for my other genres or even smaller catalogs and just make a catalog for each client.  Thanks for looking this over!  I am so frustrated.

    Several problems exist.
    1.
Back up your Mac prior to making any changes to its file system. Time Machine has not been configured properly To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
    2.
You inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
    3.
That Mac's Hosts file appears to have been modified. Fixing a modified Hosts file requires specific instructions. Apple Support Communities contributor and EtreCheck author etresoft recently added a User Tip discussing that concern, and how to correct it: Fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file

  • My mac is running extremely slow. More often than not when I try to click something or type something it gives me the "thinking" pointer icon.  I ran the etre check program and got this:

Is there a way to speed up a Mac (similar to de-fragging on a PC)? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.
When memory/disc comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? How should I determine what programs/software to remove and free space?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

working with Outlook 2011 for Mac, my mails are slow and I can work only on-line, when off-line, mail cannot be opened because it is only partially downloaded. How to solve??

hi what antivirus is best in macbook pro???and may mac pro is go slow?

Forget about viruses, and don't install Sophos, which is worthless.
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

My mac mini is running slow.  Bought it in 2009.  Activity monitor shows nothing running that should not be.  Someone suggested it might be my operating system?  Check for software updates, and I am current.  Suggestions?

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
