My mac-mini display rainbow wheel constantly.

Also when playing music in itunes and/or typing some texts, it get hangs constantly. Please tell me if there is any solution available for it. To see my mac mini's console detail, see following link:- http://pastebin.com/DXEkz9jj

Hello, it's going to take ages to work through that log, but...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this hang happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

Look up "screen sharing" in help
You can control your mini (which I am assuming you are hooking to your TV) complete from your iMac.
After you set up screen sharing, you can go to the finder, under the "go" menu choose "Connect to server" and then browse.  Choose your mac mini's name, and look for the "Screen Sharing" button.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
    All users:
Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
    Only these users:
Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.Click Add at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Users & Groups preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list, and then click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen:
Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password:
Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen. It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.

    Please help.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem since it won't read from DVD, and it is only a year and a half old.  Hopefully all it is, is bad RAM*:

I'm having the exact same problem. Since installing Yosemite, my iMac (late-2013 model with 32GB of RAM) is constantly hanging ... the spinning beach ball pops up constantly. It pops up when I open files, it pops up when I open windows, it pops up when I close apps, it pops up when I open apps, etc., etc., etc. I've tried everything and can't get it to stop. And to make matters worse, I'm having the exact same problem on my 2010 iMac. It's driving me nuts.

  • Mac mini display is flicking via HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI cable

i have received mac mini server (mid 2011) recently. mac mini is connecting the display via HDMI port using DVI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter.
the display shows constant flicking. white dots/lines show randomly. it is like those signal noise when watching analog TV.
the same display works fine and well with macbook pro (early 2008) via DVI port.
    please help. please advise.

So you know the display is working.
It seems to me you have a few possible problems.
    1 HDMI-DVI cable is bad
    2 DVI-cable is bad
3 Connections between cables or computer or monitor are bad.
4 HDMI port on the computer is bad.
I assume you've tried #3, and re-connected cables and wiggled inputs.  So then try replacing 1 and then replacing 2 which are cheaper fixes than replacing/fixing 4.........
FYI, I'm connect my mac mini using the same setup you describe, with no issues....also inspect the cable ends carefully to look for any problems.

  • Mac Mini display is too large for screen on only one user account

Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated.  The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page.  I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?? Aargh! Thanks all!

Ha, figured it out myself from another discussion forum finally. Thoght I'd share in case anyone else runs into this. They must have hit "Zoom" by htting the "Control" and scroll buttons at the same time..
    Resolution:
You can zoom out by holding down the Option and Command buttons on the keyboard and, while you hold them down, pressing the - key.

  • HDTV acting up with late '09 Mac Mini - display prefs at issue

I used my 46" Sharp Aquos successfully with my 2006 Mac Mini before I gave it to my brother last December and got a new Mac Mini. They were connected with an HDMI-DVI cable from one of the TV's HDMI ports via an HDMI-DVI cable to the mini-DVI port through the adapter.
Three times this morning within 20 minutes of turning on the TV the TV has turned itself off (the audible click that occurs when the TV is turned on or off and the two green lights go off). The TV turns itself off in a few seconds.
I contacted a Sharp Aquos person online who gave me a case # and told me to call Sharp on the phone so they could walk me through a factory reset.
When I got Sharp on the phone they asked me what preferences from the manual's chart I had chosen. I told them that it was my understanding that Macs do this automatically. I checked my display prefs and they're "1080p" (the manual's chart has only vertical and horizontal resolutions) and the profile is set to "SHARP HDMI". Are these prefs OK and thus the Mac Mini not at fault in all this?

Correction: I meant to write :The TV turns itself BACK ON in a few seconds

  • No signal to VGA monitor using Mac mini display to VGA adaptor and first time boot Mac mini

Just unpacked Mac mini and powered up using Mac mini to VGA display adaptor and VGA monitor. There is no signal to the monitor ( power is on).
    How to see the display?

[    13.093] (==) No Layout section.  Using the first Screen section.
[    13.093] (==) No screen section available. Using defaults.
    [    13.093] (**) |-->Screen "Default Screen Section" (0)
    [    13.093] (**) |   |-->Monitor "<default monitor>"
[    13.093] (==) No monitor specified for screen "Default Screen Section".
            Using a default monitor configuration.
First step would be to create the necessary entries (easier to make a complete xorg.conf versus xorg.conf.d/##-whatever.conf).
All Desktop Environments / Window Managers rely on X.  Man pages are helpful, possibly some headaches ahead as I fought a dual-monitor display this way.
I currently run a xrandr script to switch displays on my hp pavilion: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr#Scripts
    Check it out.

  • Late 2012 Mac Mini display goes to black for a few seconds at random intervals

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini, Ivy Bridge, connected to a 24" Samsung LCD dsplay, using the HDMI to DVI video cable that came with the Mac Mini.  At random times when I am doing something or browsing the web, the screen will go totally black and then revert to the proper display.  This Mac Mini is connected to a 2 port KVM, however I never see this behavior when the KVM is switched over to the PC.  Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Welcome to the family. Search this forum for the main thread for this problem titled: "mac mini 2012 video blinking out".

  • HELP... MAC MINI DISPLAY RESET!

I just got a Mac Mini for home and planned on using my LCD TV as the monitor. Not realizing that I had HDMI input on the TV, I purchased the DVI to VGA adapter. I was adjusting the Display Settings on the Mini (because the picture was terribly blurry) and the screen went blank when I changed the resolution (I was just clicking each resolution option). I was able to restart the Mini and it brought the display back up. So I tried to adjust again and the screen blacked out once more. Now, I am unable to see anything at all. I tried to reset the PRAM/SMC or whatever (I did both procedures) but I still can't get even the blurry picture back. If I unplug the DVI/VGA adapter, the screen flicks up what would be 'on screen' and blanks right back out. Is there a way to reset the display to the default?
Message was edited by: [email protected]

So, I called Apple Support today and tried all of their procedures. Finally, they told me to reinstall OSX. I reinstalled and the screen went back to old blurry. I purchased a DVI to HDMI converter, plugged everything back up and... not so blurry but still not satisfactory (even to my wife's standards, who normally doesn't know/notice/understand/care about things like that... so, it MUST be bad). I found my TV resolution in the manual, it is 1440x900 and says it is 720p. So, I tried to make adjustments again. Back to Black (I am starting to feel like JayZ). I am now reloading OSX (this time I clicked 'Options' and opted to erase the entire hard drive, then reload).
I called Apple Support back and they said that they are unable to do anything more over the phone (Dell did not buy Apple, right?). I was instructed to return the MacMini to an authorized agent to have them look at it. I guess I will do that tomorrow since I spent all of today F'ing with it.
In the mean time, if someone can help me figure this out, I would be very appreciative.
    Thanks, Matt.

  • Panasonic 50" Plasma TH-50PH9UK - can mac mini display be set to 1366X768

My mac mini is connected to a Panasonic high definition plasma display (TH-50PH9UK) using a DVI to VGA adapter and a VGA connector. The native resolution for the display is 1366 X 768 but this is not an option under the display settings in system preferences? How can I match the native resolution?

No guarantees, but try this (the following precedure must be performed with the Panasonic attached to the mini):
Download and install SwitchRes X Control Panel (note: not the full version called Universal Installer). Open SRX and with the "Resolutions" icon highlighted in the main window, click on the "Custom" button on the button bar. Click on the "+" in the lower left corner of the window to add a new resolution. A second window will open filled out with timing values of the current timing in use. Make sure the "Use simplified settings:" check box does not have a check mark in it. Fill in the boxes with the following data:
    Pixel clock: 86.18
    Horizontal Active: 1366
    Horizontal Front porch: 40
    Horizontal Sync width: 96
    Horizontal Back porch: 280
    Vertical Active: 768
    Vertical Front porch: 3
    Vertical Sync width: 14
    Vertical Back Porch: 21
Put check marks in "Positive sync." for both Horizontal and Vertical sync.
You should observe that the Horizontal Scan rate is around 48.36 kHz and the Vertical Scan rate should be around 60 Hz. Click on the OK button and and then the Apply button. Quit SRX and follow the directions for saving and restarting.
When the mini is restarted, open Displays preferences and the newly created timing should now show up. Select it and hopefully you will get a native resolution output. Good luck.

  • Mac Mini display issue

    Hi
I have a Mac Mini 2008 model. I have upgraded the memory and hard drive last year but apart from thats it standard. I use a Samsung monitor with it. Recently the display has gone weird. Its like the brightness has gone crazy. Black is still clear but colours are very bright and whiteness is very white. Photos an video are very difficult to view. Its not the settings as i had not changed anything it just suddenly happended and I have checked it all and appears as should be. The fault was intermittent to start with as I checked all the cables etc, but now it is permeant. I changed monitors and put it on my big telly and it worked fine for a fews day and then went weird again. I was using a VGA cable so I thought I would get a new cable and went for a DVI cable as I heard they are better. But still no joy on either the monitor or my telly. So I'm now thinking it must be a hardware fault inside the mini. Any help would be greatly received.
    Thanks John

That has done it! Thanks very much. I feel rather silly now!! Don't know how I managed to do that, must of unknowing pressed the right short cut keys. Thanks again.

  • Mac Mini display on boot up

Whenever I reboot my Mac Mini I have to reset the display settings.
I am using a Pioneer Plasma display 506FDE conected by HDMI cable.
When it boots up the display is a very limited number of colors (maybe 10 or so).
I go System preferences - Displays - Options - check Overscan (which reduces the size of my display). This resets the display to a decent level and I then uncheck Overscan to get the display size set correctly
I have tried resetting the pram and trashed ~/library/preferences/com.apple.systempreferences but to no avail

Problem solved by resetting the pram holding apple-option-p-r during startup until you get an extra set of the startup chimes. also, trash ~/library/preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist.

  • Mac Mini Display Options

    Hi,
I currently have a lte 2009 Mac Mini with a mini dvi port connected to one monitor with DVI and a mini display port connectedted to my TV with VGA. All good and works nice. I'd like to upgrade the Mac Mini soon but looking at the rear I see HDMI and thunderbolt. I can't see how I can connect my two current displays up to the new mac mini. I could connect my monitor with HDMi- DVI I would expect but can I connect the TV with Thunderbolt- HDMI? Or could I do HDMI-HDMI for the TV and Thunderbolt-DVI for the monitor?
Both the TV and monitor are pretty good so I don't really want to change either, certainly don't want to spend £900 on an Apple Thunderbolt display.
    Thanks,
    Gaz.

The new Mini includes a HDMI->DVI adapter.  And you can use the Mini-Displayport adapter in the Thunderbolt port.
