My Mac mini just makes a sound when I turn it on but not video A1103

It turns on but with a sound and not video.

What sound is it making? When you start the MINI does it make the normal "boot-up" chime?

I've read some forums that say I have to overwrite it with a silent sound file but I do not understand how to do this.
You have to jailbreak your phone to do this, voiding all warranty & support. Just flip the Ring/Silent switch when you send.

    Ok..
Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If nothing helped, since you don't hear the startup chord, make an appointment at an Apple Apple Genius Bar or take your Mac to an Apple certified repair provider.
v10.5.6 is an oudated version of Leopard.

I just updated my Mac Mini to latest software
You mean, MacOS X 10.9.2 and GarageBand 10.0.2?
How far does the download proceed? Do you get an error message?
Try to resume the download as described here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4485

  • IPad makes beeping sounds when charging while connected to mac

iPad makes beeping sounds when charging while connected to mac

First off, I suggest using the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a good wall outlet. USB ports often do not supply enough power for efficient charging on an iPad.

  • My speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up

my speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    4. Reset the NVRAM.
    5. Reset the SMC.
    6. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    7. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Mac Mini 2011 has no sound offers no choices in output.

My new 2011 Mac Mini has stopped outputting sound.  It worked just fine until a restart last night.  Now, the only sound I get is the startup tone. In the output section of the sound module in system preferences, there are no options listed - it says "no output devices found".  I've rebooted.  I've tried other output devices, but I don't have any that are USB to try - only mini plug.  Running Lion 10.7.2

Contrary to what many have said on this and other threads, I think this problem is hardware, not software. It is actually quite easy for the sound card ribbon to become loose. When I had this problem on my mac mini, I opened the mini, pulled the sound card ribbon off at both ends (you can't miss it, it is orange and flat and has a 90-degree bend), waggled it back and forth, and reseated it into its connectors at both ends. Snapped the mini back together and sound returned.

  • Mac mini fan is very loud when watching a dvd

    Hi,
Just bought a Mac mini (2GBRam 2GHz intel) and when watching a dvd the fan spins very loud which gets very annoying! Is this normal for watching dvd's on the Mini as I have a Macbook with similar specs and there is not much sound from that when watching dvd's. I installed 10.5.1 on the Mini and the Macbook still has 10.4.11...Any ideas?

The reset is always worth trying, just in case the problem is in the system controller. However, I'm not sure that I'd blame MacOS itself for the problem, because it does not appear to be similarly reported elsewhere. As such, I'd say that if you can't resolve this with a reset, you may find the next best option is an erase and install of Leopard, followed by downloading and installing the 10.5.1 update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html
Of course, since an erase and install wipes the hard drive, it is essential you back up your data before you do this!

  • Just bought a new mac mini, wireless keyboard, and track pad. My track pad will not synch. All advise I have been given is to change items in the setting menu, but I cant because I still have to get through the setup!!

The power button for the Trackpad is on the right hand end of the battery case. Press that button to initiate the pairing process. On the top of the Trackpad just above the power button is a tiny green light (you probably cannot see it unless it is lighted). That light will indicate ehther or not the Trackpad is discoverable. If the Trackpad has discoverable the green light will blink on and off. If it does not pair within 3 minutes you will have to press the power button again to re-initiate the pairing process. Once your Trackpad has paired, you can just leave it on and it will pair automatically when you reboot your Mac.
If you are having problems pairing, try turning off any other Bluetooth devices within 30 or so feet of your Mac mini. That includes other Computers, iPhones, iPads, etc. that may be in the area. Once your Trackpad has pairedwith your mini, you don't have to be concerned about other Bluetooth devices.
One other hint, I find that although the Wireless Trackpad does not eat batteries as fast as the Magic Mouse it still uses more than the Wireless Keyboard. It is a good idea to keep a supply of AA batteries around. I have used Apple's Rechargable batteries, but found they did not last that long before needing to be recharged. I have had the best battery life from Duracell Quantum batteries.

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.

  • MAC MINI just went Mute today.

MAC MINI just went to mute, have been connected to a TV for 2 years via HDMI with no issues. I can switch to internal/Headphones with no issue. I have plugged and unplugged the headphone jack multiple times and reset the PRAM 3 times still no fix. Reset and recovered from time machine still nothing. Is there something loose inside the computer? Please help my 3 yr old love to watch internet TV for his kids shows and now no volume,

Thank you for the help. Yes the HDMI is there but no control. I swapped the cable around and checked the tv. Funny thing We used external speakers this morning for a movie and afterwards i unplugged them from the headphone jack and the sound came thru the tv again but the sound icon is still gray but I can control the output to the tv? Not sure what that means but it is working now. Maybe the headphone jack was stuck.

  • My 13" macbook just stopped working. When you turn it on you get a white screen and hear a repetitive clicking sound on the left side. Is this the hard drive? Any suggestions on replacement drives?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • Mac Book Pro starts up to white screen then makes a sound and dies, turning off

Hello, my macbook pro is new, bought in August 2011. Just recently my battery died prematurely after only 118 cycles. However, the hard drive also had to be replaced as it wasn't for some reason working with the battery. Now, my computer even though the battery works and I've passed all my documents to the new hard drive is having problems when it starts up. It makes the typical apple sound when it turns on and it goes to the white apple screen and unexpectedly dies off (turns off). It makes a sound as if everything is starting off then a dying sound when it turns off. Sometimes I try it again and it turns off or it can also turn on randomly and fully boot. Holding the shift, control and alt key while it is connected to the battery until the charge changed color works but it is not a permanent solution as this problem has continued for a week. It occured a couple of days after replacing the hard drive and battery at the genius bar. Any help?

It is better to take it back to the genius bar.
Your MBP is under warranty and let them fix it for you.
Nobody here can help you with hardware problems.
    Best.

  • How do I make my ipad make a sound when it is misplaced?

How do I make my ipad make a sound when it is misplaced?

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/find-my-iphone.html
    Display a message or play
a sound to help you find it.
Say you’ve just used Find My iPhone, and it turns out you left your iPhone at the doctor’s office. You can write a message and display it on your screen. Something like, “Oops, left my iPhone behind. Please call me at 408-555-0198.” Your message appears, even if the screen is locked. And if the map shows that your iPhone is nearby — perhaps in your office under a pile of papers — yet you still can’t find it, you can tell Find My iPhone to play a sound that overrides the volume or silent setting.
