My Mac mini with 10.6.8 will not stay asleep.

My Mac mini with 10.6.8 will not stay asleep when I click sleep or use the key command. It wakes up immediately. But when I leave it go to sleep on it's own (Energy Saver) it stays asleep. I've set it at approx. 8min. Is their any fix so it will stay asleep from the comand?
Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't figure out what the probelm was, butin disconnecting every thiing and putting it bck it,s working now.

Just a suggestion: In System Preferences, in Energy Saver, under the Power Adapter tab, if "wake for network access" is checked try unchecking it. Probably isn't what the problem is, but worth a try.

  • 1.42 Mac Mini with External Boot (HFS) will not Load Leopard

The Mac Mini will restart to start the loading from the DVD. The drive will spin up and will act like it is going to work then I get the wonderful "grey screen of death" telling me to power up the mac again. I have tried shutting down all other external drives but the one I need to install on. Even though I know the dive in the mini is bad I tried to run with only it and boot from the DVD and that didnt work either. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am not touching the MacBook till I see that this will work. Very dissappointed so far. Have never had an issue with upgrades from Apple before.
I have check my software update.. completely up to date. I have scoured the downloads for any firmware updates and the few I have found say I am not eligible for that update.

I disconnexted all drives and externals. Then tried again. That seemed to help. Have new issues which I am getting ready to post.

I own the businesses, so there are no restrictions. Even my personal page has the same problem. I've been working on FB for years with no access problems. Ironically, the problem started the day the FB IPO went public. At first, the "freeze" happened when I tried to view a photo. Now it happens virtually every time I try to do anything: view a friend's page, try to use "chat."
I'm at a loss. I would view it as a blessing, except that too many of my "friends" and family only use FB to communicate. I'm afraid that's how the world is today, and we can't turn back the clock.

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Power mac G5 will not stay asleep

Hi, My power mac G5 will not stay asleep--it goes to sleep for several seconds then wakes up again = what to do?

    Hi Al,
Most likely cause is a PCI card, or some attached USB or Firewire device, but possiblt 3rd party SW.
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for Sleep problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • My iMac 10.6.8 will not stay asleep. It keeps coming back on seconds or minutes after I put it to sleep.

My iMac will not stay asleep. A few seconds to a few minutes after I put it to sleep, it comes back on.

OK, a few more things coming to mind:
Set the energy saver to sleep in 1 min
Diconnect every single peripheral you have connected to your iMac
Eject any DVD/CD you may have in the drive
Turn off all applications you have running
iTunes or DVD Player could be waking it constantly up if accessing your drives
Messaging apps could be looking for internet connection
    Disable Wi-Fi
Disable Bluetooth - you don't have cells paired to it, do you?
    Disconect Ethernet cable (if connected)
Spotlight - is it indexing your drive? (a dot within a magnifying glass would be pulsating and won't let your Mac go to sleep)
Connect a wired mouse - if you have it - and go to Apple menu then click SLEEP
If it remains asleep, keep adding all apps, devices and services back until you find which one is causing it.
If nothing helps, then I'm out of ideas....
In case you have Apple TV - the remote can indeed make it wake up.

  • Mac mini slowed down and now will not start up

    Help!
I couple days ago i noticed my mac was running a bit slower than usual but I just ignored it since I brought it home for the holidays and thought it might just be the internet connection. Then, yesterday, I turned it on in the morning and it was running so slow that it would take up to 10 minutes just to open any window. TODAY, i turned it on again to try to solve the problem after being unsuccessful yesterday, and now the fan starts blowing really loud as soon as i turn it on as if it were hot (i don't know, im not very smart with computers) and it will not load past the first grey screen or the second blue one.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Also, if it matters, i'm not sure what my 'OS' is and since i can't turn my mac on i can't find out what it is at the moment...
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks for the info about having wrongly applied the PMU reset to your Intel Mini. That will account for the fan running full blast. Only known (cheap) fix is to apply the correct SMC reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
(The Mini's reset procedure is at the very end of that link.)
If that fixes the fan, then we have to consider that your original problem had something to do with the hard drive. Either the hard drive was too full, or else it was starting to fail and needed to re-read sectors -- which would account for things getting very slow.
Do you have any recollection of how full the drive was? Any warning messages?
To check for HardDrive failure or file system corruption, typically one would startup the Mini from the install disc that shipped with it and run DiskUtility from the Utilities menu at the top of the screen. But it seems you can't get your hands on that disc -- and you pretty much need the kind of disc that shipped with your model of Mini.

  • IMac will not stay asleep!  Widgets are to blame!!

Thought I'd share this piece of information, it might be in here somewhere but I could not find the resolution. Here goes:
Recently, my iMac would not stay asleep, my screensaver would not even start. If I forced my screensaver with expose, it would not fall asleep after the specified time in system preferences>energy saver. If i selected "sleep" from the apple menu, it would wake back up after 2-10 seconds. I just recently set up my airport network and thought about that, nothing. I thought it might be a program, so I shut down all my programs, and still nothing. I was so frustrated so I decided to search the forums. I found a post that suggested to look at the Activity Monitor (apps>utilities>activity monitor). So I did that and guess what: the activity keeping my imac from sleeping was DASHBOARD. I had a great widget that had swimming fish, only the fish swam all the time, and prevent my computer from sleeping. Keep that in mind when you are adding widgets.
Problem solved, and now my iMac sleeps at night, and so do I! (come on, it was too easy to pass :D)

    Good to hear.
    Enjoy your Mac

  • Mac Mini 2.53 C2 Duo will not take any disc

Hi all here is my problem… I have a Mac Mini C2 Duo 2.53 that will not take any disc DVD or CD when it is turned on. If I turn it of and put a DVD or CD in the slot it will load on boot and play and read. If I eject the disc and load a new disc with in 5 seconds it will load a new disc if I wait longer than 5 seconds I can't load any form of disc I have to turn off the Mac.
I have Installed 2 different BD drives and 2 different DVD drives all with the same result. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers Patrick

I have installed now 6 different drives all new… all do the same thing I could cry have reset the SMC a few times no luck. The drives work fine in a different Mac Mini just not in this one. Is weird that they all work when the Mini is booting but not afterwards. I don't want an external drive as this defeats me buying an older Mini with internal drive.

  • Mac Mini Server Hd disappeared. Will not boot anymore!

I have a Mac Mini Server about 3 years old running Leopard. I noticed that my server HD had disappeared and was not even showing in disk utilities. The 2nd HD which I had setup for backup was still there and presumably bootable. I checked with disk utlty and disk was not there. Finder was not showing it either So I rebooted hoping it would come back, but I got a message like this:

Now I cant boot into my system at all. This mac mini has no DVD. I do have other macs I can use and have all the original DVDs.
Any steps I can use to fix or recover from this error?
    Thank you

Which Tiger Install DVD do you have...?
    1. I think that, that model originally came with 10.4.10 and so you will need either the original 10.4.10 install disc or a later retail (Leopard or Snow Leopard) upgrade DVD.
    2. In addition, a new (HDD, Hybrid Drive or SSD) must first be Partitioned GUID Partition Table and Formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) before OS X can be installed.

  • Mac Mini spins wheel on screen will not boot

This is a very frustrating problem. My new Mac Mini will not boot. I removed all external drive cables, ethernet, only display and kbd. Still not luck. Followed istructions in the booklet.
The little wheel under the Apple logo jsut keeps spinning around and around, with no change.
    No Luck. Help!
    Thank you

Track Down your install disk, and put it in, and then hold down the Alt key. Once the boot menu popups up select your CD. Then select your language and hit next. Afterwards go into utilites and then disk utilties; then select your Hard Drive (the top not the bottom) and hit repair disk and repair disk premissions. Then reboot.

  • Mac Mini OS 10.5.8 will not install .pkg or .mpkg files

Reciently my Mac Mini has been prompting me to "choose an application" when I try to install .pkg or .mpkg files. This is preventing me from installing any new software on my computer. I've tried to repair permissions and that didn't help. I also tried to reinstall my OS from the disk that came with my computer. When I attempt to reinstall, my mac restarts and spits the disk out and no changes are apparent. What can I do to fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Those packages are opened with the Installer.app. Perhaps it has become disassociated from these types of files on your Mac. To install, next time it asks you to choose an app, browse to the Installer and choose it. It is in Apps/Utilities.
To permanently fix this issue, right click on a pkg or a mpkg file and select Get Info. In the Get Info window go to the Open with pane and choose the Installer as the correct app to open these files. Then press the Change All... button.

  • Sleep will not stay asleep

I have a Mac Mini and when I put the machine to sleep, via the Menu sleep option, it goes to sleep and then wakes itself up about a minute later.
How can I get the Mac to stay asleep until I want it to wake?

It is possible that the "wakeup" is being caused by perceived activity on the connections to peripherals.
If you have a Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse there is a possibility that they are sending periodic "messages" to the mini, or in a perverse logic some BT devices may send a message when they are about to go into sleep mode themselves (ie. "here's a disconnect request") which could well be about a minute after you've put the mini to sleep.
If you have any USB attached devices there is a similar possibility. In addition, I have noticed that USB cables that are near power cables pick up EM interference from power surges (eg. switching on a desk lamp) so you might want to check for the proximity of other cables.
    Hope that helps.

  • Will Not Stay Asleep

Hi All- I have a 2006 white MacBook that has treated me so well, until now. She just won't stay asleep. When I put her into sleep mode-a second or two later the optic drive checks itself and the computer wakes up. This has come to be over the past few weeks and it has been waking up faster as time passes. These are the steps I've taken in which to try and ameliorate this problem. All have had no effect.
    1) Resetting SMC
    2) Resetting PRAM
    3) Changing the RAM
    4) Turned off file sharing-to prevent waking
    5) Don't have bluetooth so that's not waking her
    6) Shut down and restarted
    7) Changing the hibernate mode in console from 3 to 0
    8) Turning off airport
    9) Closing all applications
    10) Talking sweet and asking nicely.
The response is the same whether I close the lid or push the power button and choose sleep. I have been hounding the forums for some solutions, but I have exhausted the solutions that I have found. Bit of service history: Replaced the battery under the battery recall with a new one, replaced a faulty AirPort card this past summer and the lower plastic case on the bottom. All done at an authorized service center. Been working fine since then, until a few weeks ago. Also the only variation on stock configuration is an upgraded hard drive to a Seagate 500GB last year, but have had no problems associated with that.
Help would be appreciated. I am out of warranty-my three years is up, so hopefully it's nothing nasty. Cheers all and thanks for the info in advance.

I also have the same problem. I have the newer battery as per the original post, and no other modifications. Otherwise my story is identical.
    Any suggestions?
Edit: After some more fiddling I found that bluetooth had turned itself on and was messing with my sleeping, I've never used it before and made a point to have it off, but somehow it came back on. Maybe this can help? Its worth checking it again.

  • A new Mac shipping with OS X Lion will not accept OS X Snow Leopard

    Hi Fans,
I''m back again to report on my 2.5hr campaign to get Snow Leopard back.
I have of course no DVD drive on the Macbook Air.
So, I created a restore disk from my Mini, to an external drive.
    Loooks good...
Boot Air, kernel panic. The Snow Leopard DVD is too old.
    Error is:
You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X.app with this version of Mac OS X.
You have Install Mac OS X.app 23.1.
So, I will call apple apparently tomorrow and ask if there is a possibility for a later version DVD or a USB I can get.
I might add that if you have problems, apple prefer that you email them here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
Other than that, a little rant here could help...
The experience I've had is pratically software entrapment, Apple just about closed the doors on software choice.

Thanks, yes I see the point, I will eventually get some 'feedback' and hope that I can survive the shortcomings...
I wonder if anyone knows if it is possible at all? To run Snow Leopard on the New Macbook Airs, i7 etc.
If it is... I will call and wait to talk to an Apple Expert...
What's interesting is Progress has become a relative concept, whereas before, Progress really mean't progress.
I think we got all excited over a rather fluffy domestic cat...
    OS X Mr Snuggles?
Actually, the next version was probably the Sabre Tooth, but as we know, that cat is extinct.
I am trying to keep up good spirits by lightening up this 50/50 release.
