My Mac Mini won't turn on after being stored please help"
I stored my Mac mini for several months as I do every year but this time it won't turn on. Please help! It's an older version probably 2006-2007.

Mac Mini late 2012 turns on after electrical failure
Hi. I bought a Mac Mini (late 2012 model) with OS X Mountain Lion in November 2013.
I upgraded to OS X Mavericks.
I have not changed any of my Mac's settings. They are all on default settings.
Under Energy Saver, only "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" and
"Wake for network access" are checked. Nothing else is checked.
Nothing is scheduled to turn on.
What happens is I always put my Mac to sleep when I'm not using it.
I have my Mac, speakers, cable modem and LCD monitor plugged
into an expensive name brand 500VA electromechanical voltage regulator
to prevent power spikes and surges from damaging my computer.
There are electrical blackouts a few times a month and this happens
when the Mac is either sleeping or being used.
The blackouts last about 30 to 45 minutes when they occur.
When the power comes back on, approximately 5 to 10 minutes later
the Mac Mini turns on by itself. I hear that familiar startup
sound from the speaker and then it boots until it reaches the login screen.
I'm confused why it would turn on by itself.
I use cable internet but my cable modem was unplugged at the time.
My internet connection is a wired ethernet connection using a Cisco 2100
cable modem.
Barring the paranormal, what would cause it to turn on by itself?
I'm not using a UPS.. just a voltage regulator (line conditioner).
Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.Hi brody. I turned off printer and screen sharing.
I have a new problem related to sleep:
I put my Mac Mini to sleep using the menu and selecting "sleep".
Mac goes to sleep and you can see the LED on the front of the Mac
getting brighter and dimmer (as it always does when sleeping, no problem).
Problem was when I woke up 7 hours later the LED light was off, so
I thought there was another power failure but there wasn't because
my cable decoder box will switch from displaying the time to displaying
channel 1 if there's a power outage and power returns. However, it
still displayed the time so that meant there was no outage.
So, I figured it was not a power outage although we sometimes
get very brief (split-second) "brownouts" or blackouts.. they happen
so fast so I can't rule out that happening.
I tried pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking the middle button
of my Logitech mouse but no go.
Thinking the Mac had shut itself off, I briefly pushed the power button
on the back of the Mac.
Mac woke up with the login screen covered in a white haze with
|||||||||||||||||||||| at the bottom (like a progress bar).
That only lasted 15 seconds or so and finally the normal
login colors appeared and I could type my password.
So, the Mac was asleep but that behavior disturbed me.
1. Why did the LED turn off after being asleep for several hours?
2. Why couldn't I wake it from sleep using traditional methods (pushing a key/clicking middle mouse button)?
3. Why did the Mac wake up only by pushing the power button on the back?
4. What was the reason for the foggy white overlay that appeared when it woke up along
with a | | | | | | | | progress bar at the bottom of the screen for 15 seconds or so?
I ran an Apple Hardware Test by booting with the "D" key held down and it passed.
I also booted into Single User Mode and ran Memtest twice with no errors.
I really appreciate your help. My Mac is covered under AppleCare but I hope nothing
is wrong with it. I'd hate to be without my Mac even for a day. heh. :-)
Thanks. -
My iPod won't turn on at all. Please help!
My iPod touch 5th generation just stopped working out of the blue. It won't turn on and has nothing but a black screen. It won't charge or connect to iTunes either. I can't restart it because my home button does not work either. How do I turn it back on? Please help fast!

Turn on without Home/Power Button -
Hi folks,
A mac mini in my household won't turn over. It gets to the grey Apple screen with the spinning search circle, but stays that way.
The strange behaviour began after I installed the latest security and safari update via Software Update.
I tried resetting the pram, using the included install disk to check the HD with disc first aid with no results. Will I have to re-install the OS now?

Your collective help is appreciated.Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The symptoms you describe and the circumstances in which it occurred are often indicative of a problem with prebinding, and can be caused for example by running the system on other tasks while also applying updates. Prebinding is the process whereby MacOS links executables with their library files, and when it is damaged it can cause the system to become unresponsive or fail.
When you say that you used the install disk to check the HD 'with no results' I assume you mean that it found no problem. Given that you were able to boot the system with that disk, it demonstrates that the system is healthy, so at that point and assuming you did not get any errors when testing with Disk Utility, I would suggest you boot to the install disk again, and select the option to 'archive and install' (an option that is reached by clicking the button for a custom installation). Archive and Install will put a fresh copy of macOS on the drive, but leave your applications and files untouched. Once the new MacOS copy is installed, you can boot as normal and then I would urge you to download the 10.4.11 combo update from the Apple downloads page (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html) and install that, before running Software Update to grab any additional updates required.
Ensure you are not running any applications or performing any other tasks on the system when performing updates - particularly not when you see the system reporting 'Optimizing system' towards the end of an update. This is when the system is actually updating prebinding, and where running anything else can cause problems. This was a known issue and was resolved in MacOS 10.5.x by a different routine for updates.
As always when doing this kind of work, it is strongly advised that you ensure you have a good backup of all your data first. -
Mac Mini won't boot up after disconnecting it from iMac
I have disconnected my Mac Mini from the iMac I had it connected to, and now it won't boot up when I turn it on. Do I need to hold down a key combination to get it to boot from it's own operating system again?
I have disconnected my Mac Mini from the iMac I had

You should not have to hold down any key to get it to boot to an installed copy of MacOS, though if you hold the option key down, it should take you to the Startup Manager which will give you a list of available MacOS volumes it can boot from. If it doesn't show any, then you don't have a bootable MacOS on your mini.
Are you getting anything on your screen when you are trying to boot, such as a folder with a question mark? -
Mac Mini won't turn on propperly
I will explain in as much detail as I can what has happened.
I recently bought a Mac Mini from the apple store. it has 2GB of ram and a 1.8 processor (i think cant remember)
Worked brilliantly for a few weeks with only a few minor glitches. I turn it on today and it was acting fine. Then I open safari and after a minute it closes without warning. So I try again and the same happens after about a minute. The third time I tried i immediately went to the mozilla website to download firefox to see if that would fix my issues. The download almost completed (14 seconds remaining!!) but then safari froze and wouldnt respond. I tried the 'force quit' option, but nothing happened so after a few minutes i decided to try a restart.
So the computer turned off, and then would not turn back on. When I press the power button now, the light on the front comes on and i hear unusual noises from inside the machine (sounds like it is trying to read a disk even though there is no disk in there.)
I checked out a few troubleshooting topics on a few different websites, pretty much telling me to try removing all hardware and trying again, and some telling me to try a different power outlet, and some telling me to test it with a different monitor.
I have tried all these things, but i still get the noise from the disk drive, and pretty much nothing else. Neither of my monitors will accept the mini.
Any help would be greatly appreciated right now, as I feel that I have pretty much done everything I can think of. Right now im just glad i backed everything up with time machine because the future is looking grim.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.Hi geodisicdome-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
That is a bummer about your Mac.
You have a 1 year warranty. It may be time to exercise said warranty and have the unit looked at by an Authorized Apple Service Center.

Mac Mini won't complete reboot after upgrade
I have a Mac Mini that is PowerPC based. It is running OS X 10.4.8.
Last night when I opened iTunes a dialog box appeared saying there was an update available. I believe it was 8.0 or 8.1. I elected to download it. This brought up the standard Software Update dialog and there were 4 updates available, iTunes, a Security update, and two others. I elected to download and install them all.
After they installed I needed to perform a reboot and did. The Apple logo appeared and the rotating spokes appeared but the boot process would never go further. I have used Disk Warrior to check out the system. I have booted using the original installation CD and repaired permissions and run Verify Disk to make sure everything is proper. The Mini still will not boot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hi, Chris, as I wrote earlier...
I have used Disk Warrior to check out the system. I have booted using the original installation CD and repaired permissions and run Verify Disk to make sure everything is proper. The Mini still will not boot.
The Verify Disk did not show any errors that needed to be repaired...
I did boot into Safemode (I think) holding down the Apple and S key when booting. I then keyed in "sh /etc/rc" (I'm trying to remember from last night) and the Mac Mini started its UNIX boot. Several lines of text displayed showing its progress. It finally hung after this line display,
"Workaround Bonjour: Unknown Error: 0"
Does that help any?
Thanks,

Mac Mini Won't Boot Up After HD Upgrade
So I have a Mac Mini 1.5GHz Intel Solo. I recently maxed it out with 2GB RAM and a 500GB Hard Drive. My problem is, when I start it up with the install disc all that appears is the folder icon with the question mark. Tried restarting holding down "C" and the same thing happens. I tried booting up with the install disc that came with my MacBook Pro with Leopard, and it gets me through to the main screen but then it tells me that this software cannot be installed on this computer. But I was able to format the Hard Drive. So I tried the Tiger install disc and the same folder question mark icon came up. Any ideas?
+"I have the install discs that came with my MacBook Pro, Leopard, tried those on the Intel Mac Mini and that's when it let's me choose a language but then a window saying the software _cannot be installed_ onto this computer pops up."+
+While _the same version of Leopard can run on Intel and PPC_, Tiger requires a different version for Intel than for PPC.+
The distinction is between installing vs. running.
Macs have generally not allowed install discs from one model to be used to install on an other model.
But an external Leopard bootable hard drive (with the correct partition map) can boot either Intel or PPC Macs capable of running Leopard. Of course the partition map has to be GUID for Intel, and APM for PPC -- and PPC Macs can only boot from firewire externals or from internals. -
Mac Mini won't turn on: No light, no chime, cold
I went to bed with my Mac Mini on last night. Eight hours later it was off and cold. There is no light and pressing the power button does nothing. I've plugged it into three different working power sockets and still nothing happens. The power cord also doesn't feel particularly warm though I'm not sure whether it gets warm from normal operation anyway.
I bought this in September 2006 so is a faulty power cord a likely cause? Everything was and has been running fine in the unit itself so I am hoping it IS the cord. Has anyone else had a problem with a faulty power cord?I would leave it alone if it doesn't hurt the mini, alot of people have talked about "Ghost in the Machine" It applies to the mini, everybody's mini is different, its got its own quirks.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
If it bothers you, Take a stroll down to your local Apple Store.
Or
It could be that the motherboard, logic board, or any other circuitry it giving out. Id just back up your stuff periodically, which you should be doing with a free little program called TIME MACHINE
GO as normal, if something goes wrong, off to the Apple Store you go.
OR march over to Cupertino, and just try to hand it to Steve Jobs personally. -
Mac Mini stuck looking for Windows Boot Disk! Please help
Hi all, I've been running Leopard on my Mac Mini off a FireWire hard drive enclosure. The 750gb hard drive in the enclosure is a drive I used to have in my old iMac.
When I had my iMac I'd installed Windows via Bootcamp. So when running, the Mac Mini would show a Windows partition on the Leopard desktop. Today I needed to do something in Windows. so I went to Sys Prefs > Startup Disk and chose to reboot into that Windows partition. BIG MISTAKE
Now whenever I turn the Mini on it looks for a Windows partition and tells me it can't find one. I've tried resetting the PMU, booting from Leopard DVD, holding Option, nothing works. The only thing that will work is if I put a Windows XP disk in and it will try and take me through the install process.
How on earth do I get my Mac back booting into Leopard!?
Message was edited by: Thomas RobinsonI can't believe it was just the new Apple thin Alu Keyboard causing it! Plugged in an old Apple USB one and I got the Option startup menu straight away, totally bizarre!

Curve 8520 won't turn on all the way, please help!
I have a blackberry curve 8520, i bought it last month sometime.
I woke up yesterday morning and the balckberry was off, and would not switch on after i pushed down the ON button. So I charged it for a while, and still, it wouldnt switch on. Then, i took it off charge, took out the battery put the battery back in and it rebooted. The loading bar went right to the end, and the logo of my service provider appeared. And that's when it stopped loading. All that will show is the logo, it wont turn off, unless i take the battery out again.
I had downloaded an app the night before it stopped working off appworld, could that have affected it? I tried to link it to my computer, but it wont let me remove or add applications.
I did take out the battery for hours, and the SD card. It still wiil only turn on until my service provider's logo.
PLEASE HELP! Any advice would be helpful.
Solved!
Go to Solution.1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

I was using my iPad 3 awhile ago when it just blacked out and now it won't start. Can anyone please help me fix it?
Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
