My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad

My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad. My monitor uses a HDMI cable when the mac mini is off it says no input received which it does not say so it is receiving some signal from the mac mini. I have tried a different cable and a different monitor/ hdmi cable. The fan isnt running there is no start up noise but the little light on the front blinks every 4-5 seconds. Im booked in to see a GENIUS on sunday but I was wondering if there is anything I can do in the mean time. The mac mini is only 8 months old if that. Any ideas people? Oh the mac is also running mountain lion and has been since the day of release i've never had a problem up until this.

The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
Tone(s)          Description
1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat          No RAM installed
3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones          RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button          Firmware upgrade in process. See About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones          Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • MAC Mini wont turn on but the fan is constantly running loudly.

Hey, I'm new to MAC's and apple etc, I mostly use PC's and such but had to get a MAC for work purposes. Up to now it has been great and I can see why they are brill machines but last night when it wasn't even switched on the fan started up and now I can't even turn the Mini on. The only way to stop the fan (which sounds like a hair dryer - the only way I can describe it) is to unplug it at the mains. I'm worried that someone is going to tell me its bust and will cost a small fortune to repair but hey I gotta know.
    Thanks.
Also I have tried pressing down the button to restart it etc but it just doesn't respond.

I am also having the same problem.
I came home after a long business trip to find that my computer was unplugged by my wife. After plugging it back in, fan on high, and no LED light.
I was quoted 500-600 to get it fixed. I bought the darn thing for only $450.
SMC reset has absolutely no effect what so ever.

  • I installed utorrent on my mac mini and when i restart there is a question mark on the dock

I have tried to install utorrent on my mac mini running mountain lion and each time it installs and runs fine until i restart the computer and it is no longer installed and a question mark is in its place on the dock. I am new to mac and do not know what I have to do to make sure the app remains installed after a restart.
As a bit of extra info, there is a folder on the desktop when I install the app at first and after restart that folder is no longer there as well. I am assuming this is relevent but being new to mac I am not sure what settings adjust this. Thanks for any assistance.

I figured out the problem but cannot erase this post so no more help is needed. I was pinning the open window of uTorrent as opposed to the app itself to the dock. Once I pinned the app it remained there after a restart.

How to make your own bootable OS X 10.9 Mavericks USB install drive
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/10/how-to-make-your-own-bootable-os-x-10-9-mav ericks-usb-install-drive/
When Apple released OS X 10.7 two years ago, it stopped selling operating system DVDs in its stores, stopped shipping recovery disks with new Macs, and switched to downloadable installers for OS X upgrades. These download-only installers have actually worked pretty well—I’ve never had an issue downloading the software from the Mac App Store or restoring a Mac using the Internet Recovery feature when something went south. That said, it’s still nice to have an install disk handy for those cases when you don’t have a connection, when your connection is slow, or when you just have a whole bunch of Macs and don’t want to have to download the installer on each and every one of them.
The good news is, as with Lion and Mountain Lion, it’s possible to create a local USB installer for Mavericks. The bad news is that it wasn’t as simple as it was before—Apple has changed the way the installer works, and making an install disk manually is more difficult than it used to be. Before we get started, here’s what you’ll need:
An 8GB or larger USB flash drive, or an 8GB or larger partition on some other kind of external drive
The OS X 10.9 Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store in your Applications folder. The installer will delete itself when you install the operating system, but it can be re-downloaded if necessary.
The latest beta of the Lion Diskmaker app, available here (as of this writing, version 3 beta 3 is the most recent). This app is free to download, but the creator accepts donations if you want to support his efforts.
An administrator account on the Mac you're using to create the disk.

About TimeMachine backups and Recovery Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
OS X Lion and later let you:
Start from OS X Recovery using your Time Machine backup disk. With OS X v10.7.3 and later, Time Machine backs up the Recovery System on your Mac to your backup drive as well. This lets you use your Time Machine drive to start up your Mac if needed.     OS X Recovery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
    OS X Internet Recovery
Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion include the ability to start up directly from an Internet-based version of the OS X Recovery system. OS X automatically uses this feature when the Recovery System on the hard disk isn't available (such as when your hard disk encounters an issue, or when your hard disk has been replaced or erased). OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's servers. Starting up from this system performs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to check for hardware issues.
OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, entering a passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery downloads and starts from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered the same utilities and options as a local Recovery System.
Requirements for reinstalling OS X using Recovery
Reinstalling OS X using OS X Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation
If you use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X, it installs the version of OS X that originally came with your computer. After installation is finished, use the Mac App Store to install related updates or later versions of OS X that you have previously purchased.
What to do if the installer warns that no Recovery System can be created
Some disk partition configurations may result in the OS X installer reporting that it could not create a Recovery System. In these situations, even if you are permitted to continue the install, you may want to quit the installation and create an external, bootable OS X hard drive with a Recovery System, first. You can continue your OS X upgrade on your computer's startup drive after creating an external Recovery System.
Your storage device must have at least 13 GB available (after formatting) to install OS X Lion or later and a Recovery partition.
These steps erase and reformat the storage device. This article instructs you on setting up a storage device to use the GUID partition scheme and the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which are required to install OS X and a Recovery partition on your external storage device. You should back up any important files that are on the device to a different drive.
This procedure installs a version of OS X that is compatible with the Mac it was created with. Using this OS X system with a different Mac model may produce unpredictable results.
Your computer's serial number is sent to Apple as part of this process to help authenticate your request to download and install OS X Lion.

My Ipad mini wont turn on what do i do?

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My ipad 3 is frozen on the plug into itunes page - it won't turn off or on - just stuck. I have tried to follow advice I have found on these pages but I don't know how to connect the ipad to my mac (the advice is to connect ipad to mac and there is no usb port on an ipad). If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Going nuts.

I think you should probably also read the iPad User Guide. You didn't say what version of iOS your iPad is running, so here's the links to both the iOS 6 and iOS 7 (PDF) versions:

  • Mac mini wont boot os x

My mac mini will not boot into os x. When I boot up the mac mini it network boots. I went into os x using the option key and changed network boot to my hard drive in system preferences, but I still get the same problem. When I type mac-boot in the firmware it says "not enough memory". When i use the option key to boot the hd takes a long time to show up, about 15 seconds. When I run os x the fan kicks in immeditly. I dont get any errors when running an extended test on the system test cd.

When I type mac-boot in the firmware it says "not enough memory".
Is your Mac mini booting into open firmware? Or did you do that on purpose? If it's happening automatically, I think yoy may want to call AppleCare Support. There could be something significantly wrong with your Mac mini.

  • ITunes crashed now Mac mini wont power back on

iTunes crashed now Mac mini wont power back on

You have not provided any information on which to base troubleshooting. Minimal information would include the Model Mac mini you have for example Mid 2010 Mac mini, exactly what happened when iTunes crashed, and what -- if anything -- happens when you try to restart. It is unlikely iTunes has anything to do with the failure to reboot but instead iTunes crashed because of what even caused your Man mini to fail.
Just as a starting point, be sure and check all your connections, power, monitor, keyboard, mouse, everything. You would not be the first to have a plug come adrift unexpectedly.

  • Mac Mini Wont Boot up

I've been having issues with my Mac Mini for quite a while now. When I press the power button, the power light turns on and the fans spin up, the CD/DVD drive spins up as well. But I never heard the boot up chime and nothing ever displays on the screen (not even the no operating system found sad face).
At first I thought it was defective CD that was stuck in the drive, though this evening I did finally manage to get that out. Still no joy. I've reset tried the reset options listed in the main troubleshooting pages for the Mac Mini not powering up but still hasn't work.
The computer is out of warranty, and I've worked with computer innards in the past, so I'm not worried about cracking the case if anyone has any suggestions on what may fix this problem.
    Thanks,
    ~Jaren

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Have you tried a safe start, where you hold the shift key down when you start? Have you tried a start where you hold the alt/option key down, which would be to choose where to boot from? If neither of those work, normally you look to the hard drive causing issues, however, if starting with the alt/option key down doesn't get you anywhere, then the logic board would be suspect. You might want to take it the Genius bar at your local Apple store for diagnosis. If the logic board is bad, you can buy a replacement via the web, or have the Apple store do it.
