My mac os x loses wifi 10.6.8
i can connect to wifi ,but for only a few moments does anyone know how to fix this problem i have tried everything.

You will probably be able to find the iWork'09 DVD at Amazon or similar online vendor. Install from the DVD and immediately run Software Update to get to the latest version.
The Terms of Use here dictate that we test our suggestions before posting, but obviously I'm not going to try this myself, so there's an element of risk, but it seems your only option. It has worked for users in the past, but you never know how OS upgrades can change such things. If you go this route, please post back with your results.

Whenever my mac connects to my wifi it throws the rest of my household off of the internet and they can't connect until about 10 minutes after i turn my mac off. It's only my mac book pro that seems to cause this problem.

The last 6 mons or so, since buying a new macbook pro, iPad and macmini my wifi randomly disconnects to my airport extreme and therefore to all items in the house (including my iphone) and I have to go unplug it and plug it back in. It can work for days at a time or cut out over 20 times a day. It is incredibly frustrating. Is this fixable or just a giant bug for me to enjoy? I love mac products but this is incredibly frustrating.
Do I have to recreate my entire wireless account on the airport from scratch again to fix it? If so, how? It was working fine with our old macs until we upgraded everything.Not sure that is the issue, as the airport extreme is directly connected to the shaw internet connection box by cable, yet still somehow loses internet connection. The two units are right beside each other. When i unplug it and plug it back in after a minute the wireless is ok again for a while. The issue is all my computing items will randomly all of a sudden lose wifi signal...nut just reduced bars but the signal is gone all together. It is wierd.

Are you running OS X Lion? If so there are unfortunately numerous threads on here discussing exactly the same problem. So far there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution, with everyone hoping that Apple will come up with a permanent fix.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

If time machine puts all of my photos onto my external hard drive using time machine, can I then delete the photos from my computer but view them again from the external hard drive? Basically, can I free up space on my mac but not lose years of photos?
To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site, -
iMac spontaneously loses wifi in the middle of work, many times a day. Had been fine for a year and now much trouble. iPhone and iPad on same network do not have this trouble.

Any help? Thanks....The below has solved my Safari hanging when loading web pages and eliminated my finding the wifi on boot up. It has been a month now and waiting a minute always works for connecting to my airport extreme on boot. I was cleaning behind my desk and realized that the ethernet cable was still attached to the back of the iMac even though I had moved the airport upstairs. I disconnected it. I also opened network preferences. The wifi was moved a long time ago to the top for priority, but the inactive ethernet and firewire were still listed. I removed both the ethernet and firewire so the only connection listed is wifi. My computer has now reliabily found the internet for the last 3 weeks without waiting. It appears that having the other two options disrupts the connection process on boot. It also must cause the computer to continue trying to use the connection when using Safari.

Make sure your new Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.

Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your new Mac, to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.

Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

Ok I figured it out myself But for anyone else with the same problem I tried re-setting my network settings and that did the trick. I should have thought of that!

You should lose nothing.
However, this does not change the fact that you should ALWAYS have a backup copy of everything in your computer, including itunes.
You should ALWAYS make sure that your backup copy of your computer is up to date before any update, restore, etc. -
I can't download the latest update and my phone loses WIFI all the time. when I try to connect and put in my password, it just keep searching and searching.

Hello, we have a Mac and an ipad, the Mac is working and wifi is on and the ipad's wifi is on too, but Ipad Safari can not open the page because it could not connect to the server, does any one know that?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

You can't do that, you'll need to change the password on your Wi-Fi and then change the settings on the Apple TV to log into your network again using the new password.
