My mac os x wont start

I can turn on my MacBook and it goes to the gray start-up screen with the gray apple and spinning dial. It stays on this screen and then just shuts off. My battery says it has 3 out of 5 dots filled. I have a paper I need to print tonight on the Mac OSx side of my computer, which has bootcamp. Is there a way I can access this file from the windows xp side?
pleeease help, thank you so much

try using the macbook without batteries. use with the ac plug and see how it work

  • Mac book pro wont start up in room temperature

Hello again, every one seems to be having issues with macs overheating, i'm having the contrary, mine will not boot up if it get to room temperature. It all started 3 months ago, when it will work perfectly then when I switched it off, left it for a while it will not boot up, so I though my motherboard was probably fried atleast, well fortunatley I live in italy and it was summer so one random 40degrees day after having left my mac laying around powered off a couplde of weeks (after having tried resetting everythning in it,SMC PRAM etc with no sucess) , i just tried the power button and it magically worked. So I dont know why i though of it but, to make sure i tried powering it off again leaving it a couple of mins to cool down, and tried it again and to my expectance it didnt work, so i got a blow dryer heated it up to operating temp (around 50°) and it works like a charm, this is obviously a problem, cause i cant be going around with a blow fryer to power up my mac (like in airports for eg ) so any clues what i could try before i decide to get a new mac? cause i aint paying half of what its worth to get a new motherboard.
    Thanks.

I've got exactly the same symptoms as Stickman. My MB Pro 17" 2.4Ghz from Mid-Late 2007 sounds like a textbook case for what Apple has written in its blurb in knowledge base Article: TS2377 re. distorted video or no video. I get no video even though MBP starts up, fan is running, battery charges, it even provides power to an external 2.5" Firewire hard drive.
I've made an appointment to take it into an authorized Apple store tomorrow, but I wanted to ask a quick question:
I had already removed the hard drive, thinking both to upgrade it to a bigger one and to see if it might have been the culprit. I had planned to put it in an external Firewire case too, after buying a bigger hard drive. BUT, when I set aside the HD and hardware that holds it in place (small bracket and screws, grommet screws for the hard drive) I seem to have misplace the little bits of hardware (duh!) So at the moment I don't have any way to put the original HD back into the computer; or at least, to hold it in place when it is installed.
Does anyone know if this will be a problem when I take the computer in to be checked? I know that the check the technicians do is to boot the Macbook Pro from an external drive with the nVidia test software on it, so the internal HD may not be needed for that. What do you think? And later, if the MBP gets sent in to Apple to get the logic board replaced, would the missing HD and bracket and screws be a big problem? Do you think Apple would say that I may have caused the problem when I opened the computer?
Any thoughts, especially if anyone has any similar experience, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Mac book pro wont start HELP!

Last night I left my MBP downloading the latest OSX 10.4 from software updater. This morning I noticed there was an error downloading the update. Tried to re boot but frooze during shut down. Now the computer shows PANIC ERROR. Unable to find driver for Paltform "ACPI". Any suggestions????
    Any help is appriciated.
BTY booted off cd ran disk utility.... Cant fix error. Something about nodes...

    > Something about nodes...
    Orphaned indirect node at ###########
Been there ... this might work but you may need to do it several times as it 'fixes' things with each pass.
Start the MBP holding down Apple/S (single user mode)
Let go of the keys when you see scrolling text
When that stops and you see a root# prompt enter
    fsck -fy
Let it run through all the checks and repairs, if it fails first time run it again, if it finds and fixes anything run it again and keep doing so until it says "Volume appears to be OK" then enter
    reboot

  • My mac air won't start up.it is frozen right before the log on screen. It shut down fine the time before, what should I do? Does it have a safe mode like windows?

My Mac book air wont start up.it is freezing up right before the log on screen. It shut down properly. I cant figure out what could of caused this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Justin,
Are you getting to the Login screen? Or is freezing up on a blue screen? Are you still at the gray screen? Run any updates recently?
You can try Safe Boot/Mode and see if that does anything - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
The next step would be to try and verify/repair Disk Permissions, but you'll need access to another computer for DVD/CD sharing or an external DVD drive.

Now when I push the startup button, the power light goes on momentarily, there is a click, and then the power light goes off. I have replaced the 3.6V battery and pressed the small setet button on the logic board. Still same problem.

    Someone please help!!!!

I know this isn't what you really want to hear but I'd recommend taking it in to an authorized repair location or your local Apple Store to get the Superdrive repaired or replaced so you can do an install? I don't believe you will be able load from your Dad's Window's machine. However you might be able to from an external DVD drive.
Also I might recommend getting a UPS so if you have similar issues you will have enough power to do a proper shutdown.
    Regards,

  • My mac pro wont start. I push the power button and I get a click sound. A few seconds later another click sound and that it.

My mac pro wont start. I push the power button and I get a click sound. A few seconds later another click sound and that it. I've tried different power plugs. Going direct into the wall, through a power strip. By iteslf, with other devices plugged in. I removed hard drives, and some RAM, and nothing. Sometimes it would not turn on, and then some minutes later it works. So its was sparatic, but now its been the same situation for three days where it wont turn on.
I'm guessing power supply, but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar expereince and what the solution was, before I drag this beast to my local Apple store and have them look at it. Its a real pain to get it there and back and I want to be armed with some info for them. I already dragged this to them when it first started to do this, and of course it started up just fine for them. And you know if it works for the Genius then theres nothing wrong with. No matter what you explain to them.
I figure if anyone had a the same problem and was able to resolve it, I can relate that experience to the Genius even if it start up for them.
    Thanks

Try a SMC Reset using the extended method:
    Remove the AC power cord.
Press the power-on button. [This drains the stored charge from the power supply]
    wait a quarter minute.
Restore the power cord, being certain to JAM it into the socket, as the big block of rubber inhibits proper seating.
    wait a quarter minute
    attempt to power on.
If no joy, examine the button battery half-hidden behind the graphics card. Remove it to measure the Voltage. A new battery should not cost over US$5, and measures a little over 3 Volts. BR-2032 is used in garage door opener controls and car door locks controls. The geeks at Radio Shack can measure it for you.

  • My Mac book pro (2011) start-up goes straight to disk utlities and wont install mavricks.

    Hello,
         My mac boook pro 2011 wont start up to my internal harddrive. it will sit on the white screen for a bit before it takes me directly to the choose language then disk utlity and shows the;
    Time machine
    install osx
    get help online
    disk utlity
Ok so my harddrive is partitoned into two, but everytime i try to delete the partition drive, it wont let me. says (Macintosh HD2 cannot unmount please try again). And everytime i try to earse the free space, it wont do it as well. but its says it did.
Then i try to repair my disk but my verify/repair disc permissions is not choosable but the veriy/repair ARE choosable. i choose verify/repair option and it says everything is fine. but it still wont let me choose verify/repair disk permission. My Saftey Mode is not working ( circle with line through) so i cant fix that problem. I also done the reset PRAM/NVRAM and SMC and still nothing.
Ok the problem goes further. my Mac book pro came installed with Snow Lepord not mavricks but it wants to install mavricks instead. I put my internet into some single thing and it switched it to Lion instead of mavricks. but that isnt the problem (just thought it was weird how it switched OSX system like that) the problem is that it doesnt want to download install any OSX system. First it didnt let me get pass the choose install drive wondow. , then i switched my date in the terminal and was able to sign in but it wont download any OSX system, it would say (Something came up, please try again). My install cd wont work, keeps spitting it out. And trying to do an OSX system download wont work through this browser on disk utltity (not enough space on the drive).
I was deleting log files from my mac through the partitioned drive and i accidently deleted a system folder that had logs. i was wondering if this was the problem and if its making my HD fail ir is my HD done? and can i put Yosemite on a usb and boot it that way or burning it to a CD and doing a cd install?
Please i need help becuase i use my mac for film and editing and my mac wont boot to the desktop, just to this window. ill try to post picutres of what happens.

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)

  • Photoshop CS5 wont start on Mac

    Hello,
PS- CS5 wont start anymore. This problem started after I manually removed Firefox and then install it again- including plug-ins and temp files.
I uninstall photoshop and reinstalled it and reboot it in between, but no luck....hope sme's can direct me.
    I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5
    Thanks you!!!

Fixed! In case if anyone out there is having the same problem...here's what i did to fix it.
When I uninstall firefox (manually), I also removed/currepted Java Runtime component (or files). Reason I missed it because Java still showed up in my system preferences.
    1st method-
Remove PS CS5, Remove Java - clean up all java files completely but be carefull dont remove something you are not sure about it will haunt later, speaking from a personal experiance . If you are not comfortable use the method 2 below.
    Install CS5
Install Java - make sure runtime component is also installed
    2nd method-
    Backup your files
    Uninstall CS 5
    Uninstall Java
    Shutdown
Turn the Mac on and hold the Commond-R keys for Mac to start recovery routine
    Select Re-Install Max OS X
    Once the OS is installed
Install CS5 and Run it....it will ask you that Java Runtime is needed. Click on install to install it.
    Good luck!
