My Mac Pro screen going black while turning on.
My mac book pro 13" screen going black while turning on.
Hello, Gaganpreetfromnz.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are a couple troubleshooting articles that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

Congratulations. I think this is very hard to do.
However, this is a forum devoted to video editing. You want one associated to the MacPro.

Narcoleptic laptop - screen goes black while working
Hi ho,
About a week ago my mac started acting strange. I'll be working and the screen will just go black. (it just did it again! Sometimes if I'm listening to music on my mac, the music will stop, so it's not just the screen going black, it's like the computer goes to sleep out of the blue.
I was trying out bittorent for the first time and I'm wondering it it's related to that, if there is something I don't know coming on to my computer from the internet, please advise. I took bittorent off and it'll still appear. A window from Opera will open, so I took Opera off my computer in case there is something downloading. I never use Opera, so I don't know why it keeps coming up.
When it goes black, sometimes if I click the power button, I'll hear the disk repower up and the screen will go on, but it isn't all the time. Once I get it started again, it may be a few minutes and it'ss do it again without warning, or it could be 10 seconds. There's no rhyme or reason.
Another thing I notice is that the laptop will get hot, and I'm wondering if it's an emergency mechanism if the computer is getting too hot.
Please help, of course, I'm dead without being able to use my computer! And this is totally messing with my productivity!
Message was edited by: madamepHi, madamep. A properly-functioning Powerbook should put itself to sleep (not shut down entirely) before it gets hot enough to do real damage to itself. That may be what's happening with yours, as you say it seems to be getting pretty hot.
I suggest opening Activity Monitor and seeing whether something is using a lot of CPU cycles a lot of the time, thus generating extra heat. If you find that something is, and it's something you recognize and can comfortably turn off, do so. Then see whether the unexpected-sleep problem diminishes or disappears. If there's nothing drawing heavily on your processor, are you using the Powerbook on a soft surface (bed, sofa, lap, etc.) that's inhibiting airflow around the PB's shell and through its cooling vents? If so, don't: it needs unobstructed airflow all around it, including underneath — that's why it has little rubber feet, to keep it elevated slightly above your table- or desktop. Always use it on a hard, flat surface, and if the feet have come off it, replace them with something that will provide airspace under the PB at all times. Also check to make sure the vents haven't become clogged with dust or fuzz: use canned compressed air or a household vacuum cleaner (not the brush attachment — that can generate a lot of static electricity that's dangerous to electronics) to clean the vents from the outside. -
HT201401 screen goes black while trying to unlock
Almost every morning, when I try to slide to unlock my phone, it make the unlock sound but the screen goes black. The only way to fix it is to do a soft reset. I have restored the phone twice and this does not remedy the situation. At times, the screen doesn't respond at all to unlock. Please help. I love my iphone (this is my 4th version) and the only time I have ever had major issues.
It could be a hardware issue. I would take it to the closest Apple Store and have it looked at.
Hope that helps -
MacBook Pro screen goes black when video is blown up on the second screen
I'm not sure if this is a problem but when I open up a video in fullscreen mode on my second display, the screen on my MacBook goes completely black and I cannot access anything on the my MacBook until I restore the video to windowed mode. Is there any way I can fix this?
Just to add, I can still see my cursor on the MacBook's screen, but there are no menus or docks on there, and I can see my notifications, but other than that, if I attempt to switch tasks and say open up Safari, the safari window on my MacBook will be black, while the video on the secondary monitor is in fullscreen mode.Obviously there's a bad connection in there. Best bet is to take it back to the GB and show them how it happens.

Mac Pro screens go black unexpectedly?
I have a 2008 Mac Pro running 10.7.3 with original ATI Radeon x1900 xt (512MB) powering two displays (30" Cinema & 17" Studio Display) and all of a sudden they both go black. System seems to still be running. Assume it's the card because both displays are affected.
Has happened 4 or 5 times just lately. No common action to try to repeat problem.
Only recovery seems to a forced shutdown via computers power switch, wait a minute or so and power button restart. All is then good.
I have zapped PRAM and reset SMC to no avail. Completely baffled! Never happened before. Help!
CC
ps: Did notice that the firmware version of this ATI card was113-A52027-140 and I heard that there might be a update but no enough not to go outside Apple's firmware updates with each new version. AMD also defers to Apple on their site.FWIW, I have ATI Radeon 5870's and I've had failing fans on two of them (on my third now). Maybe the fan motors used in the 5x70 cards are the same ones used on your older card. When mine cut out it would look like the mac pro was in sleep except for one exhaust fan.
Moral here is it is a good idea to check that that fan is moving even when you machine appears to be running. Take a peek every now and then. Also add one of the temperature monitoring utilities like iStat Pro, iStat Menus, Hardware Monitor, Temperature Monitor, etc. -
Macbook air 13" screen goes black while using iTunes
I have an early 2014 13" Macbook Air with a 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. When I'm using iTunes, specifically when I'm watching a movie or TV show, the screen will randomly go black, but not like it turned off. The audio still works, but I can't see the cursor or anything. The only way I've been able to fix it is to completely turn it off (control+command+power) and turn it back on. It happens pretty often though, and as you can imagine, gets quite annoying. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.
Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

After restore, Pavilion a6250t appears to start then screen goes black.
Have tried F11 restore as well as restore from DVD. In bothe cases, The system restarts after retsoring the Windows partition, attempts to start Vista then screen goes black, while the CPU appears to be processing the restore. Suggestions?
XFX Radeon HD 5770 = PC only card, compatibility is not a guarantee
You realize there is EFI type firmware that makes a Mac a Mac? and PC even with "UEFI" don't require or use graphic cards, hence Apple vs PC
you know by going to Apple Store or a vendor like OWC or that says "Mac Pro" Compatible - you can find Apple hardware on Amazon for instance.
Or you buy from a vendor like MacVidCards that deals with GeForce cards (mostly if not exclusively) FOR Mac Pro.
And there are different options for 2008 vs older which is why it is important when you have lack of clarity and have one thread being thread-hijacked in two.

Iphone4 screen goes dark while I'm using voicemail
or calling...I suppose it's to save battery but I looked at settings and didn't find anything to adjust it - For instance, I want to place a call to my voicemail on home land line, I do so and then hit the speaker to hear it without holding the phone, the voicemail needs to have some numbers put in but about half way thru the screen goes black - the voice is going on about needing to punch in 1 1 # and I'd do that if I could see the screen= but it's black = if I punch around it comes on again but that defeats the purpose of having the keypad nonhidden = and i end up punching the wrong number anyway [hitting 5 to get the screen back on because I can't see the numbers of course]
My new Macbook Air (Core i5 - mid 2011) Build 11A2063 doesn't have the same problem where the screen goes black while working, but I DO have the major issue of it not waking properly after sleep.
Mainly with the lid open on battery after leaving it for 20 mins, I come back and the thing won't wake. It just sits on a black screen. I'll have to either shut the computer down by holding the power button or close the lid and wait 5 to 10 seconds and then open it back up and THEN the login screen will come on.
I think this is a hardware issue. How would we report this?
And does anyone else have this problem? -
Our T43 screen goes black while working. We can get it to work again by putting it to sleep and then taking it out of sleep. After a little while, the screen goes black again. We have confirmed that the screen saver and power settings are not the cause. Any suggestions as to the parts needed to fix this issue? Thank you.
Where I would begin is running PC-Doctor on every component of the system, especially video adapter.
You can download and burn a bootable disk from here:

Good luck and let us know.

Hello mac community, I am new,
I updated a program today everything was working fine yesterday and now today I was updating PLAY a music engine program it seems to have caused the mac to go crazy. I also updated VE PRO 5 another music program. Everything has gone crazy. It turns on but then then the screen goes black after a while 5-10mins. I managed to get the crash report.
Why is the graphics card all of a sudden effected by program updates.

Yesterday upon startup for the first time the screen went black. Had to do a force shutdown. Unplugged all external devices. Reset everything as well. Slowly checked everything was on the phone with Apple even during the process. Seemed to correct the issue. Then of course I get off the phone, restarted my computer and it goes black randomly again.
Rebooted fine. Checked all my hard disks internal and external, verified and repaired permissions on main drive and clone. Since then nothing yet...But I still feel its either the Video Card or the Monitor as everything else is fully operational.
I plan on taking it in to look at as my applecare is up in November but I cant point my finger on it. And really am trying to avoid lugging the mac pro and monitor in at the same time...(Not the easiest thing with lack of parking in nyc..)
If the display was dying I feel like it would have konked out already.
The funny thing is I have had to replace video cards and monitors in the past but this time I cant quite figure out what the **** is going on.
I am leaning towards the video card as I noticed it flickered a little when opening plug in windows in pro tools or multiple windows in sfari but it doesnt make sense.
Worst part is I cant do a hardware test cause for some reason this computer doesnt have the software installed. It does nothing when I hold down the D button...
I totally baffled but the randomness of this. -
While browsing the internet with my iPhone 4S the screen goes black and it looks like it's turning off, but it pops up to the unlock keypad screen. It has plenty battery and I was wondering if it is an issue of using too much of the iPhones RAM or not. I have no other apps open besides Messages. I am getting kind of worried as it started around two weeks ago and it has gotten increasingly frequent.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these steps in order until the issue is resolved.

Premier pro play back screen goes black a freezes every 15 minute . This is my second mac pro with identical problems.
SOLVED!!!!!
SO I did some more digging around and read ATI cards seem to overheat easily. I knew the fan was working, but after closer inspection I realised there was ALOT of built up dust on the card and clogging the fan and airflow. Blew it out with alot of compressed air, stuck it back in the Mac and BAM...no black screens. I tested it by streaming 6 video sources...doing 2 screen captures at once as well as watching a HD movie in fullscreen. Did all this for 30 minutes and no crashes. I also downloaded an app to monitor the temps inside the computer and the expansion bay stays at 41 degrees. No clue what it was before but obviously it was hotter than that. So my problem is solved! Funny that 10.7.5 made the card work harder. I wonder if its off loading some CPU stuff to the GPU for processing more than 10.7.4 so its just working a bit harder and so it heats up faster.... -
While restoring my iPod Touch second generation computer is turned off the screen goes black what do I do?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro crash - screen goes black
There is a major problem with the mid 2010 Mac Book Pro's and Lion. I suspect that it is related to the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB video card and perhaps the i7 processor. The crashes are random and most often occur after a mouse click then the screen suddenly goes black and a restart is forced. There is a thread on MacRumors that describes many others with the same problem: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1182104
The crash occurs less frequently when the power and external monitors are connected. When the MBP is unteathered it crashes every 20 minutes. I am really surprised and disappointed that a bug this severe made it through final testing. Looking forward to 10.7.1.
Scottim so glad im not the only one with this problem. at least i know its not because some careless things i unconciously did that makes my mac gone berzerg like this.
i also encounter the exact same problem with all of you. problems started a month ago. at first it was just once in a while then it became a frequent thing especially when my battery left with 20-30%. then after i plugged in the magsafe, its okay. lately, nothing safes the mac from crashing, particularly when im running adobe and/or autocad. i thought it was software problems so i backed up my files, performed erase and install snow leopard then made an even bigger mistake by upgrading to lion. after finish upgrading, the crashings got even more often. every starting up, after i got a glimpse of login in, pufffttt, screen goes black but keyboard still on. googled it up and say reseting smc will do the trick. eeekkkk nothing! then resetting the pram. worked okay for quite some times then puufffttt, crash! ask a question on yahoo answers and got a help from lovely person to install gfsxcard-something and told to opt for integrated only. worked fine for 2 days and still went back to crashing. opened up the mac, testing each rams, reshuffling em, still got nothing. the only thing that enables me to do my work with this Majestic mac is resetting pram everytime i turn it on.
since im living in singapore (bought this mac june'09 in melbourne, australia), there is no genius bar to be found, running a diagnostic only at any apple service cost me 120 bucks and if i have to change the logicboard, its gonna cost me ard 1000++ dollas since i dont have any applecare and my warranty expired 4mnths ago. so, i might be killing myself soon! yauuzaaaa
