My mac shuts down when I'm in garageband and I don't get why?

we just took it in awhile ago when Apple had their recall on macs a few months ago too..I don't understand

Try to login to a different user on your computer and see if it has the same behavior. This way you can narrow it down to a "system issue" or a "user issue".
Hope that helps

Check this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547 and this one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341?viewlocale=en_US
If it sounds like a RAM issue it could be one of the RAM chips has failed. You could try removing the RAM one at a time and see if it starts with one still installed.

  • My mac shut down when trying to download Combined Mac OS X- update

I recently bought Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.3, after installing the software I have also updated the software updates from my apple menu.
The Combined Mac OS X update 10.6.8 is the only update that will not download and my mac shut down my mac when its halfway downloaded. I notice that my mac/processor got extremely hot, so I thought this is the reason why the mac shut down. But even my mac is cold when I start, it still shut down half way in the downloading process and today the mac was also hot, but not as hot as last time as I started when it had not been in use.
Why is this happening? is it because the processor gets to hot or is it that my mac cannot download this?
I have even tried putting the mac in the window so it gets cold air, even near the freezer, it helps thew mac not getting too hot, but it still shut down, so I start to wonder if its something wrong other than its too hot??
What can I do? because I read that this download is recommended for all who has Snow Leopard and its necessary for the mac to be ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.
My mac did not get so fast hot when I used Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.9/10.4.11

Ok that is good to hear though. I followed your link and first I got this message twice : "activation failed ". I tried again third time after filling up more quota to use and I thought it was going to be finish downloading, I am so disappointed my mac shut down only 4 minutes before it would be totally finish. Only a minute and it would be finish. I just have to try again.
I wonder something that worries me, every time a download fail does this mean I am wasting my quota I have paid for? does the quota goes in the trash so I have to buy more and more quota?
How can I know how much quota I have left to use, so I can be safe downloading without worrying buying more quota? is there a way to know this?
Is quota the same as disk space available?

  • Mac shuts down when 90% POWER and its PLUGGED IN!

I recently took over my husbands mac pro OS 10.4.11. At first, all was going well. Then I noticed one day, it shut down on me and I was like, that's weird, I had no warning. I did see other postings about this so it must be common or an issue with the battery. The thing is, its plugged in 100% of the time when I use it...if I do not have it plugged in, well, it shuts down after about 5mins...if that. I am not sure what is going on. Does anyone know (if it is the battery), roughly what a fix like this would cost? I read on other posts that you need the battery info, etc....this is what my mac says: Anyone have any idea just looking at this?? I greatly appreciate it!!!!!

Actually, it just shuts right off, even being plugged in. For instance, it has been plugged in all day and my battery icon (at the top right) shows 98%...but the power cord (normally green light shows, is orange)...it just shut off on me about 5mins ago again. No warning, no programs saying they will close, just went black. No hibernation, etc...I had to push the "on" button to get it back on...It's so frustrating. Almost like it has had enough and goes off or like it's dying....So even though the battery shows fully charged, it still just shuts off....and I can be in the middle of typing or web surfing, etc...it doesn't happen when I just have it on but not using it (like a power saving thing)..it shuts off even when it is actually being used. I have no clue what to do.
Thanks so much for trying to help me out. I really appreciate it!

  • Mac shuts down when booting Recovery HD or holding down Command R

Ok, so I had Windows 7 installed on my MacBook Pro. I decided I wanted to get rid of it because I no longer needed it. I started to remove it via the Boot Camp Assistant when suddenly, my computer froze halfway through its' progress. I held down the power button and restarted my computer. I went to check back and Windows was gone. It only gave me the option to install Windows 7 instead of "Remove Partition". A few days later, I decided that I wanted to restore my mac to it's factory settings however, every time I held down Command+R or booted Recovery HD via the option key, the screen would go grey with the apple logo followed by the spinning icon underneath. After awhile, it would shut down. I boot it up again and it will only boot to the desktop. What should I do? Bootcamp assistant won't even open either. The icon flashes and then it disappears.

Just got this responce dont know if it works, havent tried yet

Re: Mac recovery doesnt work in response to Phatwo
    Boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘ (command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
Your 2011 MBP will have required a firmware update to enable this option. It was released years ago so it's very likely you complied with it.
If your HD is damaged, it will require replacement. The effects of "repairing" it using Disk Utility will be temporary, at best.

  • Why does my Mac shut down when using Safari?

Every once in a while (randomly) my mac will reboot due to an error even when I only have the Safari Application open. How can I stop my mac from doing this. I have the 2011 macbook pro 13 inch with the latest OS (Mountain Lion). Everything is up to date but why does it keep shutting down?

Hi Sebaz, first try repairing permissions. Go to Applications-->Utilities-->select Disk Utility. Select your drive then select the First Aid button then  at the bottom right click Verify Disk and after it verifies your drive click on Verify Disk Permissions on the left. If there any errors click on Repair Disk Permission. Reboot your machine and test your Safari to see if the issue comes back.

  • Why does my i mac shut down when sizing photos?

I have a new 27' i mac with 2t drive and 16 gigs of ram  the Pentium i5 quad core 2.8 ghrtz computer running OS 10.6.7. I have the Adobe Master collection CS5 installed and when sizing photos in photoshop my computer shuts down completely. It crashes the computer not just the program.I have re-installed all software including the OS twice. I have all the latest updates installed.
I have tried using earlier versions of the OS and still have the same problem. One apple tech said there was a letter put out by Adobe in January talking about a conflict with Adobe CS5 and mac OS 10.6.7 but I can't find it. I am also having problems online when filling out online forms or copying and pasting can turn it off as well. Has anyone run into this or similar problems.

I took my computer to the apple store and they tested the hardware for a week and they did replace the power supply but said they could not find anything else wrong and that the ram was ok too. They said the stressed my computer to the max and could not produce the errors that I could do be sizing a 2mg photo.I've been trying to get this fixed for months.
One apple tech said that the error message when he saw it crash said it happened in Quartz? I think thats what it was. They reinstalled my OS to an earlier version and thought that might fix it until Adobe came up with a fix. When I got home I found they installed the wrong version of OS. They walked me through a few downloads to put my computer on 10.6.6 they thought the10.6.7 was the issue but its not.

  • Mac shuts down when I turn my external hard drive

    Hello,
I installed Yosemite 2 days ago, and something when wrong right away: when I turned off my LaCie external hard drive, my 27 inches iMac immediately shuts down (I tried a couple of times), to restart a few seconds later. A message lets me know if I want to send a notice of the problem to Apple (which I did), and then everything is fine. Except its not, and whenever I turn off that hard drive (that is connected through thunderbolt), same thing happens. It never happened with the previous OS, so I hate myself right now for moving onto Yosemite.
Does anyone when through the same thing, and possibly has a fix ? Thanks.

Hmmm. Did you ever install any external software (i.e. some LaCie installer disk) or something? That's my guess, that you have 3rd party software (which is totally not necessary) which is incompatible with Yosemite and is causing a kernel panic. The solution would be to uninstall the software - it is never necessary to use 3rd party software to use a hard disk, and it can cause system instability and data loss.
If you don't know how find this out, you could download and run a program called 'etrecheck' (just Google it) and post the output here.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro shut down when I load YouTube, Minecraft and the like without being plugged in?

This doesn't happen every time I load YouTube, but is consistent with Minecraft (I expect it is a Java or Flash problem). If I open Minecraft and start playing without being plugged in, my computer will undoubtedly shut down at some point within 30 minutes from that time. It could just be a couple minutes or up to about 30, but it will happen no matter what. You may be thinking: "he just ran his battery down", but most of these occurances have happened while the computer has more than 80 percent battery left. Also possibly worth noting, the computer shuts down, it doesn't hibernate and it doesn't have a kernel panic, it is just as if I held the power button down. Any thoughts?

Most likely a Flash issue. Try uninstalling then reinstalling your current copy of the Flash plugin.

If that doesn't help, try deleting Flash cookies.

And depending on which browser is being used, definitely empty the cache more often.
