My Mac sticks at the power down

Hi!
Since 1 week my Mac sticks at the power down. It says "unmount of /net failed (45)" and doesn't go to "done...", "CPU halted" and "AirPort en1 down". It just stays there. I can make some new lines and type in something, so it's still running, but doesn't go forward. This happens only if I use my Mac for more than 1-2 hours. If I boot and shut it off after 30 minutes or so it works.
I read many things about such problems. I repaired the permissions and reintalled Mac OS 10.6.6, but this doesn't help. I don't use MobileMe and the iDisk, so this can't be the problem.
Here are 2 logs. Maybe someone can find out why. I uploaded it to pastie.org, because it would be too long.

Sorry for the push, but I found something out: If I sticks at the power down it says
04.03.11 23:32:21 kernel Kext loading now disabled.
04.03.11 23:32:21 kernel Kext unloading now disabled.
04.03.11 23:32:21 kernel Kext autounloading now disabled.
04.03.11 23:32:21 kernel Kernel requests now disabled.
and doesn't do anything (I waited 15 minutes until I pressed the power button for 6 seconds). If I turn it off after 10 minutes or something like that it just says "systemShutdown true" and then it is off. This Kext messages appear after the "systemShutdown true" if I use my Mac for more than 2-3 hours or something like that. Does anyone know what this means?

hello WallyWalsh, if this warning is showing up you might have to reset the homepage to the version that is used in firefox 4 & above (the old homepage will show the warning you have referenced). to change it go to firefox > tools > options > general & reset the homepage to the default (that's '''about:home''').
to set up sync between your pc and the tablet, go to ''firefox > tools > sync'' & create a sync account - for detailed information about it please refer to [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]]

My screen won't work, i have tried turning it off but i cant swipe the power down button because my screen doesnt work. I have only had my iphone 4s for one day and this has happened, someone please help me.

Did the trick!  Not sure what I did to cause the screen to go numb, but this worked perfectly!!!  I cleaned the screen and must have inadvertently selected something that locked the screen.  This perfect solution kept me from having to run to the Apple Store.  Many thanks.

  • HT201412 My iPhone 5 keeps going black and then pops up the power down screen.  What is wrong?

My iPhone keeps going to a black screen while I'm using it and then the power down screen pops up.  I updated the phone last night, but still having the same issue.   What can be the problem and how do I fix it?

Try doing a reset on your iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • Can only restart Mac by pushing the power button

I have a 2010 27" iMac with the i7 chip and 8GB RAM.  For the past week various programs are freezing and the only way to power down it to press the restart button.
I have deleted the plist for: Safari, iPhoto 11 and the dock.
I am new to Mac (from the windows world) and have no idea why this is happening.
Last night the dock froze so I couldn't click on anything on the dock.
I installed boot camp and attached a windows my book to a USB hub as part of the windows process.  That didnt seem to cause the problem (I just want to give you the information that it is there).
Restarting completes fine but once there is a freeze a hard reboot is my only way out.
    any help will be appreciated.

OK that's good news, it means it's a software problem that is in your user account. Now all you have to do is track it down. The first thing I'd try is restarting the computer in Safe Mode. This will clear some of the caches, what can occur is some may become corrupt. After starting in Safe Mode restart as you normally do and see how it acts. If the problem persists there are other suggestions.
If the problem started after installing Boot Camp it's possible that is where the problem is. If you have Boot Camp running on your computer you have to install Windows 7 on the iMac. Trying to run Windows remotely is a recipe for trouble, that much I know. If we track it down to a Boot Camp forum then I'm going to refer you to the Boot Camp forums as I don't really know that because I don't run Windows.

  • I just got a new iPad air and started the set-up process. Now, when I try to swipe the power down or power up icons, nothing happens. What do you suggest?

I just got a new iPad air and started going through the set-up process. Now, I can't swipe to power down or power up. Advice?

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Does Mac still sell the power cables for the late 2005 version of these?

I recently purchased a PowerMac but the pervious owner did not have the power cable. I assumed it would be no problem and that I could take a power cord from one of my other Macs, but I now see that this late 2005 model has a different socket then most macs it is square with horizontaly running bars and looks like [--_--]. I want to know if Mac still makes replacements for these and if they sell them at the Mac stores.

  • IBook G4 makes the power-down noise while it's running

I know this is not a good sign and I'm guess that I'm at the early stages of HD failure, but thought it's worth checking. Here's the basic situation:
    1. About two or three weeks ago, I noticed that after being idle for a while my computer would make a pinging noise--it's just like the sound you hear when you power down using the power button.
    2. The computer didn't freeze or anything so I repaired permissions, verified the disk, had to do some Disk Utility repairs, and went on my merry way.
    3. During the past 10 days I've gotten the folder with the flashing question mark and Finder icon a couple of times. The first time I was connected to the network at my office and my iBook booted from there. When I rebooted from the local HD it worked fine. Last night I heard the pinging sound, my computer froze and when I rebooted from my Leopard Disk and went to Disk Utility and the HD didn't appear in the Volumes window. I turned the computer off after this happened a couple more times. This morning I started up fine, was able to SELECT the Leopard DVD from System Preferences and run First Aid on my HD, but n the midst of that, the ping happened and I got the gray "You must restart!" box. Just did that and now my HD doesn't appear in as a disk, volume, or image option.
I'll try Single User Moder, PRam, etc. but I don't think that's the problem I'm having here. Help!

There are a couple of little utilities that can help you keep track of the inner workings of your hard drive and hopefully give you a heads up ahead of a failure:
    S.M.A.R.T. Utility
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
    S.M.A.R.T. Reporter
    http://www.corecode.at/smartreporter/
S.M.A.R.T. Utility can be downloaded and run several times for free. It will give you a more detailed look inside your hard drive than just "verified" or "failing". I think it tends to be a bit more critical than Disk Utility is. If you click on the "Show all" buttons, it will show you any errors on the drive.
S.M.A.R.T. Reporter installs an icon on your menu bar that is green when S.M.A.R.T. status is verified and red when it is not. It's intended to give you a heads up if your drive starts to fail.
Even though all seems well now, I'm not sure your hard drive is really to be trusted, especially if it is getting long in the tooth. It may well work for a while longer, but you might want to monitor how many errors it has and definitely keep everything well backed up.
It could be that your drive is starting to have intermittent mechanical problems, and this is something that Disk Warrior cannot fix. Intermittent problems can come and go and never seem to happen at the shop when you take it in. But if you find anything of concern in S.M.A.R.T. Utility, that would be something more concrete to go on. But as long as you keep everything backed up, there's no reason not to continue using the drive until it goes south for sure.
    Good luck!

  • "An iPod has been detected but could not be identified property" keeps showing up when I plug in my 6th generation nano for the mac. I ran the power down to nothing so nothing shows up on the screen. I've downloaded the latest iTunes.

Holding down the lower volume and sleep buttons at least launches iTunes (I have the latest version) and I get a "Waiting for iPod" message and a progress bar which doesn't show any progress, and then after about a minute I get the unknown error message.

    Hi LJ Zinkand,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like iTunes gives an error about the iPod. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Love my new ipad.  But after upgrading to ios7 Safari became dodgy.  Now it is frozen in a white screen and nothing will free it.  Everything else on the ipad works fine. I deleted data, history, cookies, etc.  Same problem.  No change after power down.

Everything worked fine on my new ipad.  After I upgraded to ios7 it still worked fine even if it looked very different.  But Safari started acting strangely (it is starting the same thing on my iPhone 4s, too).  Finally, it froze in state with no URL, no keyboard will come up, I can get Safari to close and start, but not actually function.  I went into settings and deleted all the cookies, data, history, and so forth.  Same state.  I powered down the iPad and restarted.  Same state.  I tried a trick were I held down the button to bring up the power down stripe and then holding down the home button.  Same state.
What can I do?  Can I delete Safari and re-install it somehow?  Should I take it to an Apple store?

If powering down with hard reset (press and hold two buttons Power and home) will not give positive results follow that article

  • Can not power down my HTC Droid Incredible as the phone options menu will not display.

Press down power switch at top of device for up to a minute and nothing happens. Options menu no longer appears. Had trouble with the device about  2 weeks ago where nothing would work and I was getting force close messages. Found a solution on this forum to fix the force close issue but then I could no longer power down the device.

I just resolved my orriginal issue with the power down by calling Verizon support (866) 406-5154. It was very simple while the phone was on just remove the back case and take out the battery. Then with putting the battery back in turn on the phone and when fully booted just try to power off and it worked.
There are many articles written about battery life in this community and in the documentation.

  • N8 Nokia recognized the problem Power Down-Power U...

    Hi all
Nokia assume that a "small" number of Nokia N8 can have a defect that causes the power down and power up problem.
    See the interview.
    http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/11/18/evp-niklas-savander-discusses-nokia-n8-quality/
At least a feedback from Nokia about this problem.
    Nokia N8 / N9 / Lumia 920 White

I just bought and pickup my new N8 from Batelco, as soon as arrived home, I unpacked and only to find out that its not charging and not even opening.
If they recognized the fault, they should at least informed the customer or the supplier itself or distributor about this fault so as not to have this worst experience of my life. A brand new and costly phone is not worth having this kind of problem.
Bad thing was, when I told them about the problem, they send me right away to customer service instead of replacing it with new one.
Guys from Nokia, you should do better than this, its not healthy for your company to have such lousy and problematic phone.

  • Imac/Lion power down instead of sleep

My new iMac powers down after sleeping. 2 Hours of sleuthing with Applecare is unable to find the problem. There have been no power outages, the energy saver has no scheduled power cycling, we've reset the parameter RAM, and many other checks and tests.
It behaved most of yesterday after I removed the wireless keyboard from the room. But, in the middle of the night,
I found it powered off again.
This morning, it was powering down (instead of sleeping) again about half the time. I let it sleep by energy saver timeout, not the power button.
Then I switched to a different user (only used for remote sharing). All day today, sleep has worked with no power downs - about 10 hrs so far.
Have any of you experienced any misbehavior like this? How did you stop the power downs? Clues?
    Thanks, Tony

I havent' connected them because I suspect that the old monitor was causing the problem. I plug in the hard drives only as I need them but don't leave them on. It's only been four days now but I haven't had the powering off issue since I unplugged everything. I may buy a new second monitor as the one I was using was from  an old Mac Quicksilver Tower and needed a specialized adapter to work.I seem to remeber there is also a setting somewhere in prefernces that allows you to use the power button to put the iMac to sleep. I think i also uchecked that option in addition to unplugging everything.
    Good Luck!

  • Power Down Screen

Today I was running Safari and on the internet - when all of a sudden a gray screen (curtain effect) came down and told me that I needed to power down my Mac by holding the power button. The computer was totally frozen. I manually shut down and reboot - and everything was fine. My question is - was this screen from my Mac (a legit screen) or was it some form of virus? I have been using this Mac (iMac G5) for a year and have never had this happen.

That was just a simple Kernel Panic. Something the machine didnt like to see, happened. I wouldnt worry, I get one or two a year myself. Unless you see them much more often I wouldnt worry. If youd like, call Applecare and ask them for a more detailed explanation of what happens when this occurs. But dont worry, its the equilivant of the blue screen on a windows machine. Just for us Mac users its happens much less frequently.

  • HT3964 My Macbook Pro did not respond to the power button, and I ended up resetting the smc.  After that, it would start, but the keyboard  would not respond, pnly the trackpad.  On the screen there is a symbol with ahorizontal white bar and a row of empt

After resetting the SMC the keyboard is inoperative.  On the start screen appears a traslucent square with a horizontal bar in white, and a row of empty dots below (the same format as for example the brightness symbol).  I cannot turn the Mac off with the power button, only with the trackpad, clicking on the turn off symbol on the screen.
When I try to login with my username, no characters appear as I type.
I can login as a guest, but from there I can do nothing, because the keyboard is still inop and if I wanted to, for example, have the software updated, I need to type an admin login, which is impossible.
    Thanks for your help

What happens if you close the lid? Sleep?
In your place I would use sleep state to reset PRAM, as it can resolve your graphical mess.
Your keyboard likely was not powered after SMC/PRAM failure, so you will need to open MBP cover without opening the lid and disconnect battery power cable with insulated tools from logic board, wait for 5-10 minutes, then try to reset PRAM while keeping cover
