Ss. My I tunes account is debited by a dollar or two. I want to make an in app purchase but it tells me my billing info needs to be updated . I have no money in my bank account ( in which my card is linked to iTunes) so I purchased iTunes card and redeemed it. So my i tunes account is credited with $100 I quite often need to sign in and pay a few dollars I have overdrawn and when I don't have money in my account I simply buy iTunes card and pay it like that so I can make in ap purchases .  This time for some reason the monies owed wont deduct from my iTunes credit it keeps telling me to sign in billing info? I want the monies owed to iTunes taken from the credit in my iTunes account and not my debit card it has never bit taken the xredits before

  • New to Macs..how to tell if you have a virus or not?

I'm used to PCs which are virus ridden and sometimes you don't even know you have a virus on a PC. I was wondring if Macs have the same problem and if there is a way to tell if you have a virus or not. Anyone know?

    Jack Q,
Like almost every operating system, OS X is vulnerable to viruses:
It's just not as vulnerable or attacked nearly as often as, ahem, Brand X.
What could you do if you suspect attack?
You could report your symptoms in this forum after the fact.
You could download a good antivirus scanner and check your machine for viruses.
    Or...
You could take the preventive measures of:
    1. creating a separate administrator account and making the account you use a normal user account,
    2. locking down your OS X firewall,
    3. using a properly configured NAT router between your computer and the Internet,
    4. oh, and downloading and installing a good antivirus scanner (like this one),
since Apple recommends using antivirus software, and turning on Folder Sentry.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

I have a mac book air. Have had no issues with any virus before but today my safari page keeps directing me to a page which says " cyber crime" posing to be by Cheshire Police AUthority uk metropolitan police.Tells me that I have 24 hours to pay a 100 pounds.Using my ipad I looked it up and it appears to be a very common virus.I am worried about my Mac(relieved at the same time that I am not a cyber criminal
!) so anyway what should I do.I tried to fonce quit and then open safari but only that page keeps opening up.Looking up online their was a suggestion to reset safari, but I am unable to click on the reset safari tab as the pop up for stay on page keeps coming up.i have switched off my lap top now.But am really worried. How can I get rid of it?

It's not a virus. It's a JavaScript scam that only affects your web browser, and only temporarily.
Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

You need to upgrade OS X.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

  • Yesterday I worked on spreadsheets in the 3.0 version, today I open up numbers and it tells me I need to update.  When I look in "about numbers" it tells me I have version 09...I went to the app store, it says the new version is installed on my Mac.

    Hi nuvest,
Numbers 3.0.1 lives in your Applications folder. Numbers '09 lives in a folder called iWork '09 within your Applications folder. You can drag each icon to your Dock. They will become Aliases. Right click (or control click) on each Alias in turn and Options > Keep in Dock. Then you can choose which one to launch.
Numbers '09 (Numbers 2.3) is on the left, three column chart. Numbers '13 (Numbers 3.0.1) is on the right, four column chart.
Both versions will run side-by-side. Just be sure which version has your document open before you save.
In Numbers 3.0.1 you can convert "backwards" to Numbers 2 with File> Export > Numbers '09...
    Regards,
    Ian.

    Hi sar23,
You may have inadvertently created or edited the document in the new Numbers 3.0 (which is free; you don't have to buy it) and are now trying to open it with the old Numbers 2.3.
Both versions can be on your Mac at the same time, and can run at the same time.  The icons are similar so it's easy to confuse them (old on top here, new on bottom).
The new Numbers 3.0 is in your Applications folder. The old Numbers 2.3 should be in a subfolder in the Applications folder named iWork '09 or similar.
If you accidently edited an old document in the new version and want to take to take it back to the old version, you can export it:

  • The App Store tells me I have installed Lion, but About this Mac tells me I'm running 10.6.8

Have tried reaching Apple with no success.
I have been charged for the OS X but don't have it installed.  About this Mac tells me I am still running Snow Leopard and when I go into the App Store it says installed and I can't reinstall it.  I have reloaded Snow Leopard and then went to the App Store and it still told me I had Lion installed.  What is going on?  Is Apple ripping its loyal customers off?

The installer should be in your Applications Folder
