My mac tells me that my iPad is locked
All of a sudden, when I plug my iPad and iPod into my mac, iTunes and my photo ap do not open. The mac tells me to enter passcode into iPad, but this makes no difference
Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
Your Mac requires your devices to be unlocked to access data so that someone cannot steal your data.

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

how do you repair the EFI systems partitions when you mac tells you that the live file system is not supported?
I don't have good news. You will need to repartition and reformat the hard drive in order to determine if the drive is still OK or if it needs to be replaced. If your computer is a 2011 model or later do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If your computer is pre-2011 model, then locate the original installer discs that came with the computer. Then do this:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now download a version of OS X from which to upgrade from your Purchases page in the App Store. -
I have a pop up message on my IPad that says it has not backed up in two weeks and now my ipad is locked and I cannot use it. I connected it to electricity, it is already on Wifi, and locked it with the button on top. But the message has not gone away. I cannot turn it off or remove the message or or slide to unlock. What can I do?
Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My mac tells me that " The disc in this drive can't be erased"
What can i do to delete whatever I have in a dvd... format it or whatever..if my mac tells me The disc in this drive can’t be erased.
Unless the DVD is a rewritable DVD, identified as DVD+RW or DVD-RW, you can't delete what's on it.

I want to sync music to my ipad, but it tells me it can't because ipad is not authorized. when I go to authorize it, it tells me it's already authorized. I'm confused.
You use the iTunes app, but you authorize a computer to use items acquired from Apple with a specific iTunes account. Then any iOS devices that sync to that computer are also automatically authorized to use the items acquired from Apple when they are synced to the device.
If you are mixing stuff from various usuers individual iTunes accounts it can get a bit confusing. For example if you have apps from thre different users accounts, the apps can only be updated if that user signs into their iTunes account either on the specfic computer or the individual iOS devices. -
I was doing the IOS 7.0.2 update to address security. The IPad is now telling me to plug in to Itunes. When I do so, my MAC is saying the IPad is in recovery mode and my data will be lost. What happened?!! How do i fix?
Something went wrong with the update and you are in Recovery Mode.
Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.

Why does my mac tell me that it is unsafe to download the new Skype?
Why is the new Skype unsafe to download?
Mac OS X 10.5.8 on your signature is not a Classic operating system. 10.5.8 may run on PowerPC or Intel Macs. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac and find out if you have a PowerMac or PowerPC, or Intel.

Gives you both the latest for Intel and PowerPC. Mac OS X 10.5.8 is the newest Mac OS X for PowerPC PowerMacs and iMacs. -
I am lost and not sure what to do now. I locked my ipad which tells me to connect to to itunes. Are Orange UK supplied iPads sim locked?
Basically, as the subject says, I am looking to get an iPad from Orange UK on contract, but I want to know if they are sim locked?
I have asked in the store and they don't seem to know, can anyone enlighten me?
CheersI don't know if Orange contract iPads are locked or not, but I would like to know as well. I don't know whether to get my iPad from Orange on a contract, or to buy it outright and get a cheaper data plan.
I did ask at the 3 Store about their contract iPads. I was told that their iPads are locked to 3 within the UK and won't accept other UK networks' SIM cards, but that they will accept foreign SIM cards when used abroad. I thought that sounded strange, but the store manager got their training manual out and that's the info they were given. Is that even possible? -

Why does it keep telling me that my account is locked when I am trying to buy the iphone 4s?

I have an Apple iphone 4s and for the last 4 weeks I cannot download or update any apps. I have an iPad and a Mac book pro and the apps download on these devices fine. My phone tells me that I have 12 updates but when I press update all or update any individually nothing happens at all. It also does not ask me for my password any more but my iPad and mac book do.
I have signed in and out of the app store and the password is correct. I have tried both kinds of reboot but that did nothing. I have tried to update the apps by connecting phone to Mac book pro...it shows the apps being download on the Mac book and says it will sync them to my phone but it does not. Everything else on my phone works fine.
Any ideas ...Please!Thank you, this has resolved both the iphone and ipad problem immediately. I am concerned that I may have a problem with apps that I bought under my old AppleID as they will not be recognised. Any suggestions for this please?
