If a macbook pro will not turn on, the screen is black, have unplugged, removed the battery, have done command option and esc to no avail, also once battery was removed held down the power button for 5 seconds still no working screen,.  However when not  plugged in the green light appears on the bottom front  of the computer  and it stays green  after a few minutes it stays green then goes out. Help!!  .

In that case, the computer is dead, probably with a logic board problem. Take the Mac to an Apple Store to get your computer diagnosed and repaired

  • G5 Power Mac will not turn on.

I have a G5 dual 1.8, one of the earlier models, and I'm guessing the ram restart thing will not work on it. I was just using Safari, and the computer completely shut down, since then, I have not been able to turn it back on, I've tried using a different power cord, and I'm wondering if replacing the power supply will be my best bet.

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Well - if you have checked that the mains power right up to the G5 is definitely good (and have waggled the plug in the socket at the back of the G5, for good luck) - you could try resetting the PMU/SMU
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
but, if you do not get a 'relay-click' from the PSU, low-down at the back of the G5, when you first connect the mains power, it probably won't help.
There is a rather gloomy symptom chart (at page 104 in Preview) here - and also instructions.
If you wish to take a gamble on it being the PSU that's the cause, they may be available here

  • My apple iMac was plugged into a GFI plug that tripped.  Reset breaker, but Mac will not turn on.  Checked outlet and it is working.  Is there a reset button I need to know about to be able to turn it back on?

Is there a built in reset on an iMac that will not start?  Was plugged into a GFI protected plug, it triped. Reset GFI plug is working, but can not turn on my iMAC

Paul's suggestion may work, but if the Hard Drive was writing when the power was cut abruptly, there may be data corruption, file index corruption or even physical damage to the drive as the read/write heads clash.
If the SMC reset doesn't work, first see if the installation DVD can be inserted. If it can, start up with the C key held down. OK the language screen, ignore the installer and select the Utilities menu at the top of the screen, open Disk Utility. Select the HD in te left pane and click repair (not repair permissions).
If you get a message that repairs were carried out, run the repair again until you either get "the volume xxxxx appears to be OK" or a message that repair can't be carried out.
If it won't boot to the disc, or the disc can't be inserted, try a single-user mode boot - hold down ⌘ and S on start up until the Unix prompt appears.
    Type carefully this command
    fsck -fy
    then press return.
As before, if the prompt reappears with the message that repairs were carried out, run the check again until you either get "the volume xxxxx appears to be OK" or a message that repair can't be carried out (and assume the latter if it hasn't given an OK within 4 tries).
    Type
    reboot
and press return to attempt to start up normally.
If it still won't start, it's fair to say the HD is dead.

  • Mac will not turn on blue screen only

My Imac which is about 3-4 years old just was unplugged without shutting down. It will not statrt up only blue screen. what can I do?

On restart when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option key. Hopefully it will see the start-up volume, choose it and restart. Then navigate to System Preferences - Startup Disk and see if your internal HD is highlighted, it should look similar to:
If that doesn't fix it please advise, is there ANYTHING on the screen at all such as a spinning gear, progress bar, or folder with a question mark through it?

  • My Mac will not turn on easily, shuts down often

    I have a G5 -- Mac OSX 10.3.9, about 4-4.5 years old now.
Some months ago, it began to shut down seemingly for no reason at all. I could only keep it from randomly shutting down by leaving iTunes or something else on, so that some process was being carried out (I believe that the idleness caused something to trigger, though maybe it is just coincidence).
Recently, the computer has been refusing to turn on easily, if at all. I have to push the "on" button sometimes as few as under five times, and sometimes as many as several minutes worth-times for it to finally "click," and turn on. The problem seems to be getting worse (it took me a lot of clicking the "on" button to get it to turn on just now).
Also, it seems that if it was on recently, it is significantly easier to turn it on the nest time.
Any help with what the problem might be and how to repair it would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

There's a system management controller - or some such reset button
on or in the computer, it is a second cousin to the Power Management
Unit (PMU) found in G4 machines and somewhat related to the next
version found in the newer Intel Macs.
The chip, by whatever name, contains information essential to the
basics of power management and other stuff, and there are times
where that may be corrupted so resetting it may be helpful.
Depending on what computer model you have, the procedure to
reset the chip will vary. Within a processor series, it will vary...
So, to approach the reset correctly, one would need to know the
exact model and build the computer you have... Or close.
This chip has also been known as a CUDA or PMU, SMU, SMC,
and so on; as such the PowerPC based units often had one
series of power management chip with variants, and the Intel Mac
architecture has something similar yet different.
"Resetting Cuda/PMU on Power Mac G5, Power Mac G4, PM G3:"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1939
If you have an iMac G5, the information would be different.
For Apple Portables, depending on architecture and series...
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) & PMU
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 (note PPC-PMU inside link)
Generally speaking, information for most Mac power reset chips
is listed here, in this page, with secondary links to information:
Resetting the power management chip in your Mac
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetpmchip.html
{And if the hard disk drive is getting overly full, there are issues
and symptoms of sluggishness and irresponsiveness related
    to that situation; you need plenty of free space for OS X to work.}
This may help. Depending on what model G5 you have, it really
could make a difference. At any rate, I'll always think it should've.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My mac will not turn on, no beep sounds, no fan no nothing!!! help!

i have had my imac for 6 days! and it now wont turn on, i put it into sleep mode last night, which the manual says is fine, then i came home today went to turn it on and nothing happened, i have been trying to get it to work for the last 2 hours, i used the help chat thing but they didn't help, and now i dont no what to do, i have read on hear it may be my logic board, if so can apple replace it for free?
and yes i have tried unpulgging the power cord!
    HELP!!

If you are near an apple store (compusa, etc) that has a repair center. See if they will let you borrow a power cord or allow you to bring your computer in and connect it up. I've not heard of any issues with the power cord before. I would suggest you call up applecare and let them figure it out.
