My mac won't accept my password

I just got my Mac back from being serviced and it won't accept my password. Any ideas:

  • Mac won't accept correct password to Airport Extreme

My two ipads are receiving my airport extremes signal fine; but not my mac. (Had to set up an ethernet extension from Airport to get online) Trashed the system configuration; reset hard and soft the base station; even trashed the airport byhost prefs.
Can't figure out whats up. I enter the correct password; and the window says its incorrect. And no my caps lock is not on; and my keyboard is English

Solution to Airport not accepting password
I simply clicked the wireless network options button; in Airport Settings,
    then checked the box for the 5gz wireless network name; to created a 5ghz version of my network;  but connected instead to the original network;
don't know how the heck it worked, but it did. I also reentered the password in the wireless tab.

  • My mac won't accept my password to back up ipod

My son's friend "jail broke" his ipod and I am trying to revert it back to his last back up on my mac; however, my mac is saying my password is incorrect. I tried several passwords that I typically use and none of them are working. I know one is correct. What else can I try?

No. You just can't use that backup.

  • My email on Mac 10.7.4 won't accept my password.

how can I send email messages if Mac 10.7.4 won't accept my password.  It never asked until recently.  Messages are delivered and are readable, but I can't send messages.  I installed iCloud but I think that was after the email began misbehaving.  Thank you for your help.

I checked the pondini fixes and ended up doing the following - in case this could help someone else with an iMac, OSX Lion, and Time Capsule... http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
First, I downloaded and used Airport Utility 5.6 instead of 6.1 - BTW, I had to attempt download and installation THREE times before the program actually installed.  Be persistant.
Pondini #5: It's possible some names (of all things!) may be a problem.    See item C9.  I had to re-name my Mac, Time Capsule, network, etc... to remove all apostrophes and spaces.
Pondini #7:  If you have WD SmartWare installed on Lion, it's not compatible, per RoaringApps, and there are reports it can cause this problem as well.   Use Western Digital's uninstaller, or delete the app from /Applications and the files com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist and com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist from /Library/LaunchDaemons.   There may also be a file in Library/Application Support.
I then had to shut down computer, unplug Time Capsule, unplug modem; plug everything in again, then reboot computer; then had to go to Apple- System Preferences- Network- and reselect my Time Capsule to connect to WiFi again.
Then opened Time Machine preferences again and attempted back up - it worked!

  • My Mac Book Pro won't accept my password at startup

I have been using the same password for a year, now all of a sudden it won't accept the password at startup.

    Hi P,
Run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>check S.M.A.R.T. status>if it says "Verified">click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.
If you're still not able to log in, boot from your install disc again, select the language, go up to the Utilities Menu, and choose Reset Password. Follow onscreen prompts.

I am trying to install Elements 13 on my Mac.  I get a box that says setup want to make changes.  type your password to allow.  It won't accept my password although this password works for everything else with Adobe.

That's the security software that you have got  on your computer. I was asking about the type of thing encryption used on your network, common types are WEP, WPA etc,.

  • Asking for password for keychain access, but won't accept my password... What's up with this?

Restarted my MacBook just now and it's got a continuous stream of pop ups asking for password for keychain access, won't accept my password, won't go away (cancel), any suggestions.

    Hello Al323,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Keychain Access on your Mac.  I found a couple of articles I suggest for the issue you described.
Your keychain uses your the same password as your login password.  If it is not accepting that password, I recommend running the Keychain First Aid using the steps in this article:
Mac OS X 10.6: Solving problems with keychains
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296
If you are still repeatedly seeing a prompt to enter your Keychain Access password, you may need to reset your keychain.  This will create a new keychain so any saved passwords on the old keychain will not be available, and you will need to enter them when accessing sites for the first time again.  Follow the steps in the article below to create a new keychain:
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to FOlder and type in ~/Library/keychains
Click the login.keychain once to Highlight and then from the Finder's File Menu do a Get Info (CMD and I Keys together)
In the Info Panel go to the Bottom and see if you Own the File
(Open the Padlock and then the cogwheel icon and your shortname should be there greyed Out about making you the Owner).
In the list above that you should be listed with Read and Write permissions.
If you don't have Read and Write permissions you will not store any new password.

  • I-phone 5 crashed durning software update.  Now won't accept backup password.

Just tried to update software on i-phone 5.  A backup was made.  Something crashed durning update and my only option to move forward was to restore the phone to the original settings.  Now it won't accept my password to reload the backup; however, the password works elsewhere.

Boot from your system install DVD, run Disk First Aid from your Disk Utility and repair your permissions.

  • HT4718 lion won't accept my password. HELP

    Hello
I had to change my hard drive. I reinstalled Snow Leopard with the DVD that came with my Mac Book Pro. Then, I used my time machine to recover all my information. Everything worked just fine. Then when I wrote down my password to log in, it didn't recognized my password. After many times of trying a crossed circle appeared, so I had to erase the HD and do the process all over again. This didn't work because it won't accept the password again.
Is there anything I can do to recover the password or to make it accept it.?
I had the Lion OSX in my time machine.
Please help so I can use my Mac again!!!
    Thank you
    ADTM

You need the discs that came with your machine, not the one that came with the MBP. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2681 for details. You can get replacement discs for a nominal S&H charge from 1-800-MY_APPLE.

  • My macbook air 11 yosimite won't accept my password

I log-on in my account with my password, then I decided to change it. I went to system, user&groups then change password but my old password won't accept it so I decide not to change it anymore but from now and then everytime I log in to my mac, it won't accept my password, and I am very sure I did not change my password on the first time I tried it.

When I attempt to install a game on my I phone 3g, another person's ID (email address) is on the little box where it asks for my password. It won't accept my password because it's not my ID. How can I get this person's ID off my phone?  Have I been hacked or something??

Just sign put of that account and into yours.
This is covered in the manual:

  • I'm trying to sync my firefox and it won't accept my password.

Firefox Sync won't accept my password and when I tried to reset it I keep getting hung up on the "An unexpected error occurred. If this continues, please contact support." response after filling out the "Reset Password" fields. I wan't to sync Firefox for this pc. How can I get around this?
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == Today: Wednesday 28 July 2010

I solved the problem. Apparently, when I tried to sign up in sync the first time, it didn't go through. All I had to do is re-apply. I used the same username and everything (that's how I know it didn't go throught the first time). My Firefox is now synced and there are no further problems.
    P.S.
If only I could sync my Firefox bookmarks, calender and notes with Opera, Safari and Chrome. That'd be great. I like using different browsers for different purposes. When I need the browser to disappear so all I see is what's in the window, Opera works best. Firefox can't disable the tool-bar "Auto-hide" feature in full screen mode. And Safari doesn't have a Hot-key for full-screen. At least not that I've seen.

  • IMac running 10.5.8, me email won't accept my password. One day it worked normally, next day it won't and I did not change password. Now I cannot reset the password, almost as if it was changed by someone else. I am the only user of this iMac.

My email won't accept my password, was working fine, then one day it wasn't. It is almost as if someone else changed the password and now I cannot use my password or change it to a new one. My iMac is running 10.5.8 , using Earthlink and Safari. Any ideas on this problem?

Are you using the Mail client or Safari to access your email?
