My Mac won't print a pdf from the web

My iMac will not print any pdf from the web. The printer (an ho Photosmart plus) will only print a blank shet of paper.

Try saving the file then, then open Preview and open the file and try printing again. If if the quality is still bad then it's the file itself.

  • HP Photosmart Plus B209a - Won't print correctly straight from the web.

When printing directly from a web page using a print icon on the web page my printer prints the entire web page, sometimes jumbled up instead of just printing the page it should. I can temporarily fix this by going to: File → Print Preview → Print Frames and changing the setting from “As laid out on screen” to “Only the selected frames”. Is there any permanent fix to this?
My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition SP2 and IE 6.0.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that. I have just updated it to IE8 and it now works as advertised.

  • Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed

We are planning to Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed. I have tried using the AIR appliaction and it worked, But our requirement is NO INSTALL to the user machine for the silent printing. It is just from web page and silent printing to the default printer to the desktop/Laptop. Can anyone share your thoughts and experience with us. It will be very helpful..
For AIR : I tried the thread Re: AIR and PDF showing/silent printing

    Hey CodeMonkey & Ross,
Did you either of you ever find a solution? I'm stuck too, it seems I can get remote printing on all these PDFs to work but it just prints a blank page since I've been using Javascript in the browser, not Adobe's (they are Engineering drawings that I do not have permission to edit so I can't just insert code into them but I need to make work instructions). I've been scouring the internet for hours now, it seems that this thread is the only relevant/useful one at this point. No one else was trying to achieve this for similar reasons to mine.
    Thanks guys,

  • Opening pdfs from the web

    Hello,
I am having a wierd issue with pdfs from the web.  I have adobe acrobat pro 9 (patched up to date) and I have enabled the 'do not open in browser' setting.  When I click a pdf link, it opens acrobat 9 as it should but the file name/file type is not .pdf.  I do not have reader installed and cannot figure it out.  The main issue is when I click the email link, it sends the link for the unknown file rather than the .pdf as I intended.
The short term work around is to save as and reopen the newly saved .pdf.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Go to Adobe Acrobat Reader Preferences and, under Internet, it asks if you want to display PDFs in Acrobat Reader (or Acrobat Pro, etc.). If checked, uncheck the box. Then CTRL-click on a PDF file and select "Open With". If you hold down the Option key at this point, this Open With" will change to "Always Open With". Select Preview. That should do it. Watch out for Reader or some other Adobe programs that ask if you want to make Reader the default PDF viewer when you open them. Always answer "NO".

  • How can I launch or open a pdf from the Web using Reader X?

Before I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, I could click on a file to download from the web and it would give me the option to Open, Save or Cancel. Now that I have upgraded, I only have the option to Save or Cancel. Often I would rather Open the document to see it before deciding to save it or not. Is there a Setting or Preference somewhere that will bring back the Open option? btw, I'm using Windows 7 as my OS.

    ImagineThat:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a 3rd party application, pdf-RecoverPro, that will let you lock the file to printing, changing, etc. You set two passwords, one to let the user view it and one to unlock the restricted features. Just provide the first password and send the file. You can try the demo version. It just saves one page in demo mode.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Then prompts the user to save the PFD report to their computer.

  • Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro XI for Mac.  recently I've run into pdf files that will show the document on screen ok, show up on print preview screen ok, but when I send it to a printer I either get:
    1.  no printout... the document passes through the printer queue ok, but nothing comes out (no blank paper, nothing).  no data seems to even reach the printer/print server.  no error.  the print job basically vanishes into thin air like the job was never sent
    2.  prints out with all the characters of a text substituted with squares (again, no error. just prints squares instead of text)
But when I print the same document using Apple's Preview program on the same machine, the file prints out fine.
I experience this problem with two different Macs, with two different OS versions.  Again both machines will print the .pdf file fine using Apple Preview, but not with Acrobat Pro XI.
I've searched for this problem, but no one seems to have this problem. I've tried just printing one page, etc., and no difference (won't print, or print wrong using Acrobat, but prints fine using Preview)
the files are typically sent via e-mail from a vendor, or a web downloaded form (invoice, forms filled out.  some are secure, some are not).  and these are from multiple sources.
Any ideas what might be the problem, and how to fix this?
    system:
Mac Pro (early 2008) and MacBook Pro (mid-2011)
MacOS 10.8.4 and 10.6.8 (multiple computers have this same problem)
    Acrobat Pro XI, 11.0.04
printer: HP LaserJet 5MP (yes.. old.. but it works) via HP JetDirect + print server on  LAN

I just found this solution on another board, I tried it  (I removed the same file listed below) and it worked for me....
Safari won’t save or print PDFs: how to fix

If Safari won’t save or print PDFs (but views them without any problems), you probably have an Adobe PDF plug-in installed. In Safari, go to Help->Installed Plug-ins and do a search for “PDF.” If you have anything with “PDF” in it other than “WebKit built-in PDF,” that is probably the culprit.
On my computer, the problem was “AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin”. To remove it, I quit Safari, did a Spotlight search (Command-Option space) for that file name, and then dragged it to the trash. When I restarted Safari, I could print and save PDFs again. You can also manually find the plugins by going to the system “Library”  folder (the one at the root of your hard disk, not in your user folder) and looking in the “Internet Plug-Ins” folder.
    I’m on OS X 10.8.2, running Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17).

  • IE locks when printing to pdf from a web-based page or pdf

Acrobat 7 standard. IE 6 on XPPro64. It is a 64 bit machine and so printer drivers had to be obtained for 64 bit. When I try to print to "Adobe pdf", the current page out of a 200 page catalog being viewed online, IE locks up and the print job in the queue is unresponsive. It does this no mayyer the site or file being printed from. Other than this, Acrobat seems to work on on the 64 bit machine. Same thing if the page isn't a pdf but an ordinary html page. Printing to pdf hangs no matter what. Is this a known bug for 64 bit? It's at work, and the IT dept loves to mess with things, lock things etc, but I can't think how it could be related to that.

I think that the earliest version that has successfully run under X64 is AA8.1.2. I think that AA7 will not work on X64 as I recall the various reports of attempts by others to do that.

  • OS X 10.8  Problems with images and layout when printing to PDF from any web browser

Hi there,  I just bought a new macbook air and running OS X 10.8.  This problem happens in both Safari or Chrome:  When I go to print to a PDF file, the website suddenly drops most images and formatting, ending up in a very old-fashioned layout.  Is this something new with OS X 10.8, or any other suggestions as to what I can do?

No difference.  I have discovered that it is probably the websit (weird) that is mainly at fault, as I tried the same thing on 2 other machines and the same thing happens to a varying degree on this website, and a lesser degree on other sites.  Thanks for your help, it may not be OS X 10.8 at the root of the problem.
Yes if it prints to a printer in the same manner, and it occurs regardless of browser it is the website.

  • Unable to read pdfs from the web on my mac

i've read all the advice about re-installing Adobe Flash (and deleting past versions) and have followed the advice (and restarted my computer) but to no avail.  When I try to open a pdf from a website I only get a black screen.  Any advice?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Opening a PDF from the Web

hi i am trying to open acrobat reader with a document by specifiying it in the command line, such as
acrord32 http://www.domain.com/file.pdf.... however this does not seem to work??
Acrobat says "There was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume syntax is incorrect."
    however if i try
    acrord32 c:\file.pdf... this works fine.
Does anyone know how to open a web pdf through the command line?
    Regards.

See if you can delete any Adobe PDF plugins from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. Then quit and re-open your web browser and try again.
