My Mac won't recognize the battery...

Annother question...
My MacBook only works if it is plugged in because the old battery did not work.  I got a new battery hoping that it would work but my Mac will not recognize that there is a battery at all.  What do I do?

This is what it shows on the battery icon when my battery is in the Mac...

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • My new battery isn't charging.  My mac didn't recognize the battery even after charging it for almost 3 hours.  Turns on and then turns right off even with the power plugged in so I took out the battery to type here.

Just got a new battery.  I put it in and computer worked for a few minutes and shut down.  I thought okay it needs to charge.  Left it charging for three hours and tried turning on my computer and it came on, didn't recognize the battery and then turned off.  So I have taken it out so I can type this question and ask for help.  Help.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi!
I think that it could be for 2 reasons: or the battery is defectuous or that's a SMC problem.
I guess that your mac is an Intel-based. So try to reset the SMC, it's explained at this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US.
If it doesn't work, try to update the SMC firmware, but I think that if you could use your old battery it hasn't to be necessary...

  • Disabled NTFS-3G External HD now Mac won't recognize the drive

    Hi,
I recently unmounted my WD External HD from the NTFS-3G preference pane, now my Mac is unable to recognize the drive.  When I open Disk Utility the drive is there but i am unable to do anything with it.
How do I re-mount the drive to NTFS-3G and have the Mac read it again.  I tried uninstalling NTFS-3G, reinstalling it.  Removed files from the system folder. Even uninstalled and re-installed MacFuse.
I am stuck as to how to make the make recognize the drive again like before.
    Any suggestions?
I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
    Thanks

make sure you have the exact path written correctly. If you can, show what the filename is in itunes, and the filename when you are looking at the song files (i.e. through my comuter). Make sure these are the same, and that they are all usable itunes formats.

  • Won't Recognize the Battery

I have my AC adaptor plugged in, and the battery is in the laptop, but the thing wont charge. The laptop says there is no battery available. Whats going on?

I had this problem a few days ago. So I went to the
Apple Store, the Genius told me to call AppleCare. I
did, took me exactly an hour on the phone with the
technical support person, but he was very detailed in
everything, I didn't mind the long phone call. Though
I had called the Canadian phone number, somehow they
transferred me to the US AppleCare, the technician
    was surprised too.
They sent me a new battery, took only one and half
days, really quick and efficient. I'm quite happy
about the service and technical support.
strange that the genius in the store made you call apple care instead of replacing your battery there in store. I'm guessing they must have been out and didn't want to order you one or you didn't have a reservation at the bar.
I still haven't been able to get into the genius bar at our apple store yet(apparently its been booked solid since last January) so I'm guessing I'll have to do the same even though i don't really like the idea of having to give cc over the phone then being credited back for warranty service as opposed to in store not needing one. Not to mention my free phone support is already up.

  • Garageband '08 - Mac won't recognize the Line-in input.

I've had my mac for a while now but i havent been using the line in input to record much. The last time i used it i plugged in my electric guitar directly into my mac and on garage band i can see that it is only receiving signals on the left but not on the right. i thought it was my guitar's fault or the cables fault. Checked my guitar, bought new cables but the problem persists. But this time i'm not getting any signals at all!! i've tried everything. I bought a usb interface but that didn't work. so if anyone has any ideas please help me.

I have to admit that the links posted DO share some important info, however using the line input
    requires some knowledge.
You have to know the difference between stereo and mono, the relative impedances of your equipment v. the line input, and most importantly what level your stuff puts out v. what level the line inpt expects and can deal with.
it is very VERY easy to screw up with the miniplugs and short out the inputs which it seems several people have already done.
I use a very VERY cheap mixer and a simple two-RCA to One-mini stereo cable. ( a pretty sturdy one)
That gets me a clean input with the channels correctly separated , impedance correct and a controllable level at a ballpark setting that does not overload or stress the input.
It may sound overly technical to you, but all of this info is contained in the manuals for things like keyboards, and mixers. Guitars are a different story and should not be plugged directly into a line input. ( Impedance and level are specialized in electric guitars and require a certain matching )
I am sorry that so many have problems with this, but there are things to know. ( Not flaming anybody here). I just recently got a USB interface.
Installation was dead easy, but I found it necessary to read the manufacturers FAQs and forums to get just the right settings to use it, hear it, and not blow anything up.
And I have MASSIVE experience. And I have blown things up in the past.
Just for instance, The line level coming out of the Mac is -10db, And I assume the input is -10db too, which is perfectly normal for prosumer audio. But if you use a mixer, and it's a pro model you will have a +4 db output (Blow up time), so you have to control it.
Impedance is usually measured in k-ohms for these things and an input should have at least 10 tiems the impedance of the output plugged into it. Guitars like a 1megOhm input. Line level devices rarely have 1 megOhm inputs, so guitars require either a preamp or passive matching device at the least. even a pedal can help with this.
Maybe this can help a couple to not fry their inputs.

  • My old mac and 3g won't recognize my iphone4s - and the new itunes on my pc won't recognize the 3g

Hi, I'm having issues syncing my information from two separate computers to my new phone.
I backed up my old iPhone 3g on my iBookG4. The G4 does not support the iPhone 4s because it's too old and I cannot update to Lion or Leopard because it's too old.
I have a Dell that I bought in 2009 (i know i know, it was cheap and i had to get it for a class i was taking) - anywho, I have downloaded the new version of iTunes for the iPhone 4s and this version of iTunes won't recognize the 3g - I'm guessing because it is so outdated.
So, I can't get the old computer to read the new phone or the new computer to read the old phone.
What I attempted was home sharing with iTunes and that got all my music and apps, but contacts and calendars I can't move.
    Any suggestions??
    thanks.
ps this mac is so old that the letter a just popped off the keyboard

Syncing of devices running iOS4 and higher requires iTunes 9.x and higher.
iOS 4.3 and higher requires iTunes 10.x or higher.
Regardless, iTunes 9.x and 10.x require Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Is your Windows system current with all Windows updates?

  • My mac won't recognize an external monitor. The screen Goes Blue Once, then goes blue again and the second monitor just turns off. I am using an HDMI adapter to a visio TV. I also have my xbox on the tv. Can anyone Help??

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.
Thanks. Hope my other question has an answer out here.

    Hi TakesTwo2Tango,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Mac won't recognize my password to let me download anything

I recently downgraded from Yosemite Beta to Mountain Lion and now my mac won't recognize my login credentials. Curious thing is it does recognize them to let me login at startup. But it won't let me download anything because it says my password is wrong. I changed the password and again it recognized it to let me login but not to download anything. What's going on?

Where are you trying to download from? Apple ID password?

Have an older 17 MacBook Pro, running OS 10.5.8. Software update says everyting is current. Mac doesn't have iCloud, preferences still shows MobileMe. Just bought new iPhone 5S. Mac won't recognize phone, says I need newer version of iTunes. Have no problem with computer recognizing old phone 3 or 1-1/2 year old iPad. I suspect I need to update OS, but as software update isn't telling me to do so, can I? What version would I need to go to?

Your MacBook Pro can be updated to run Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". Buy it. That will enable you to run the latest iTunes version.

  • My mac won't recognize my external hardrive!!

I have a Maxtor One Touch II 300GB external hardrive with all of my pics and backups, and ever since I installed Leopard it won't recognize the drive. I've read other forums and know it's because it's password protected and Seagate or Apple has come up with a solution yet. So I did the only other thing I could...re-install Tiger with my backup disc which was 10.4.7 for my Mac mini Intel. Now it still won't recognize the drive! The software doesn't automatically startup and even after starting it manually it doesn't recognize. I'm guessing because when I re-installed Tiger and it asked me to archive the newer version it must have kept the same coding or whatever. I don't know much about coding so I'm lost there. I have my Powerbook G4 with Leopard on it, but of course it won't recognize that drive on there either. Right now I have a few options I could re-install Tiger on my powerbook and erase everything, but I can't find the install disk and I'm not sure the install disk from the Mac-mini will work because it's for the Intel processor hopefully that won't matter. Another option is to try and see if my wife's HP with Vista will recognize it, but the drive is formatted for Mac so I'm not sure if it'll work and ask for a password. I'm stuck at frustrated right now...if I could just get a computer to recognize it, take the password off... I would shell out the money to get a new drive recognizable by Leopard and transfer the data over. I DO NOT WANT TO ERASE THIS DRIVE!! I know it still works, but I can't access it.  Anyone got any ideas?

Follow the instructions in the section of this FAQ which is relevant to your situation.

  • After transferring music to new Mac, Mac won't recognize iPod

I just recently transferred my music from a PC to a new Powerbook G4 using my iPod in disk mode. I erased everything on my iPod, then loaded it with music in disc mode to put on my new computer. But now, I need to erase the stuff on there in disc mode so I can put it back in the normal mode.
Just when I thought I was figuring it out, my Mac won't recognize my iPod. Do I need to reformat it for a Mac since I was using it with a PC? Be gentle, I'm new to Macs and don't know the lingo or my way around very well yet.

Exactly what steps did you follow?
    1. what do I do with original iTunes folder?
    It's on your old computer.
What do you want to do with it?
    2. how do I get iTunes to read/ingest playlist and songs?
If you copied the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer then you simply need to open iTunes.
Since it is the exact same library, everything will be there as it was on old computer.

  • Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type while importing from Canon 5d Mark iii

Anyone mind helping me trouble shoot why my Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type of my Canon 5D Mark iii ?
I have seen this in a couple other threads but none of those suggestions worked for me. I am also a Mac user.

    Bomal9 wrote:
I have Lightroom 4.3 and a Mark iii and cannot import raw files into Lightroom.
    The above contradicts with this:
    Bomal9 wrote:
I am downloading images through the Canon EOS Utility manager and have to import the photos in a folder into Lightroom.
So my reading of that is that you ARE importing Raw files from the 5D3 into Lightroom, but having to use a roundabout route to do so. Is that correct? If so, how are you trying to import when you "cannot import raw files into Lightroom", are you using a card reader or direct camera attachment? Have you tried both methods? And what happens when you do try?
