My Macbook 13" keeps ejecting DVDs...

I can't burn a dvd to watch a movie or anything... so what the heck do i do?.. This is irratating me and makes me beleive i should just buy a Windows PC and burn off there AND forget about my macbook...

Have you tried resetting your System Management Controller? For power issues that is always a good first step.
Best of luck.

  • The optical drive on my Macbook white keeps ejecting DVD's?

So am trying to upgrade to snow leopard on my older intel based macbook white, but the disc just ejects, first I thought it was a problem with the disc, but I tried with another DVD and did the same thing. CD's seem to work fine.
Tried the disc utility repair and safe mode and all that but no joy. So I also have a newer aluminium macbook which works great, so I was wondering if it was at all possible to use the optical drive on my newer macbook to install the disc on my older macbook using the remote disc facility? I know its for the Air but is there a way to make it work for my non air macbook. I wanna see if this is possible before I go to the expense of getting an external DVD drive or even getting it fixed by apple which im sure is gunna costa an arm and a leg!
Or is there something else I can try to get my dvd section of the optical drive working again?
    Many thanks
    Hannah

If I were you, I'd uninstall Power Manager entirely. I don't particularly like any of Lenovo's software. Each and every one has caused me problems so I've gotten rid of them all.

  • Help, DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.
    e. Can You describe the material used to create Your DVD
    - Video Codec/s
    - Photo file formats
    - Audio file formats
iDVD can not use all but only a few of them - still it tries and then often fails
    Just to start by.

my macbook pro keeps ejecting cd-rom discs.  how do I get it to stay in and run?

Clean the discs with a clean microfiber cloth.
Clean the optical drive with a commercially available cleaning kit.

  • Internal and External DVD players keep ejecting DVDs

i have a G4 500mhz AGP mac (upgraded to a 1.6ghz processor via a NewerTech card) with an internal CD/DVD player (not burner) and i have an external LaCie CD/DVD burner (the LaCie CD/DVD burner is only about 4 weeks old and i've burned maybe 8 to 10 DVDs on it)
i have had NO problem reading any DVD disks until just about a week ago.. i had bought a new Graphics DVD and it worked the first time i put it in the DVD player... the second time it would not work... (((this was the start of the problem of the purple-ish DVDs not mounting))) so, i thought i had just bought a faulty DVD, they replaced it and the new one still will not work at all.. the DVD will NOT work in my internal DVD player AND it will not work in my LaCie external DVD burner/player...
the internal drive just spins for a few minutes and the kicks the DVD out... the external LaCie drive spins for several minutes, then i finally get a message saying the disc is not readable.
what i have noticed is that any DVDs i put in will mount as long as they have a silver surface.... if the surface is purple-ish color, those are the DVDs that will not mount and keep ejecting
even DVDs that i have burned on the external LaCie DVD burner will not mount in the internal drive OR the external drive...
as i said, all of the DVDs that will NOT mount are the one's with a purple-ish surface... maybe that has something to do with the problem....
something must have happened somewhere because these purple-ish DVDs did used to work... i even did a brand new install of OS X.4 on a totally seperate hard drive and these purple-ish DVDs STILL would not work...
even booted into MacOS 9.2.2 and the STILL would NOT mount....
    ANY info would be helpful...

i now KNOW that there is NOT a defect with the LaCie DVD/CD burner and there is not a problem with the purple-ish DVDs, but it is HAS TO BE something with the Mac or MacOS X software because i took the LaCie drive and connected it to my WindowsXP machine and ALL the purple-ish DVDs that would not mount on my mac computer WILL WORK on with the LaCie drive connected to my XP machine...
    any suggestions are appreciated.....

  • Keeps ejecting DVD-R

I'm trying to burn a project on iDVD 6 and it keeps ejecting the disc when I try and burn it. Keeps saying "No disc is in the drive. Insert a recordable DVD disc" Any help would be gread.

make sure that when iDVD asks you for the black DVD you press the Eject Button on the keyboard instead of pushing the drive door for it to close...I ran into this problem before. For some reason the computer doesn't like when you push the optical drive door instead of pressing eject button
let us know how you do.

  • Trying to upgrade to snow leopard and my macbook pro keeps ejecting the DVD-R

I downloaded snow leopard and am attempting to burn it to DVD-R, as per the instructions, but everytime i insert the DVD-R  (Maxell 4.7 GB) it spits it right back out.

Did you download Snow Leopard (ie, Mac OS X 10.6)?  If so, you have gotten it illegally, as it is not available for download legally.  You should delete whatever you downloaded, as it could possibly contain malware.
If, OTOH, you purchased and downloaded Lion (10.7) from the App Store, then it sounds like there's either something wrong with the disk you're trying to use or with your optical drive.  Try putting the installer on an 8 GB flash drive instead, I like that approach better anyway.  (BTW, what instructions are you following, in this case?)

  • DVD tray keeps ejecting DVD disc

    Hi!
Recently my eMac has stopped playing DVDs or any music CDs. When I close the tray with a DVD or a CD, it keeps closed for about 10 seconds and ejects. I have done basic troubleshooting like restarting and using the eject/close button on the keyboard but no luck so far. I am a newbie in apple/eMac do not have any clue what could I do.
Your answer will greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Nirmal

    Hi nirmal
What are the instructions set to do in System Preferences > CDs & DVDs
when a CD or DVD is inserted?
In Applications > Utilities find and open Disk Utilities
    Run Repair Permissions.
Of course there is the possibilty that the unit is 'broken' but try those two things first.

  • Superdrive keeps ejecting dvds during wake up or reboot

    Hi,
Ive noticed annoyingly that if I have a dvd in my superdrive (tried with other discs and same problem occurs) whenever I wake the computer from sleep or start it up from a shut down it always forces the disc to eject. I can hear it start spinning the disc and then slow down. It repeats this about 3-4 times before ejecting the disc. Once the disc is in there it reads it fine. Even if i close the lid of my macbook pro and open it it sometimes ejects the disc.
Everything is up to date so what is the problem? any help would be appreciated

The disks are from Red Box. They look like commercially purchased DVDs. The thing is, some of these are new releases and they have very few scratches on them compared to anything that we have been playing in them. What's odd to me is that it will play the old, scratched DVDs that I've played a hundred times in this machine already, but that it seems to be having problems with the newer DVDs. I'll try some airspray, as suggested, and let you know what comes of it. I almost wonder if it's not a software thing though, as it appears to be recognizing previously played (on this machine) DVDs.

  • Dropped MacBook won't eject DVD-Any ideas?

I dropped my MacBook and it landed flat on its back.  Fortunately, all seems to be working fine (few) except that it won't eject the previously loaded DVD.  I'm open for any suggestions that might remedy this situation, before taking it in to a repair shop.
    Thanks, Becky

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
         /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.
If no success take it in for repair. You may have to repair or replace something to fix the problem.

  • 2010 mini keeps ejecting DVD's

Hi Guys, seem to be having a weird problem. My 2010 mini is self ejecting blank DVD's that I insert into it. It spins for a few seconds then just pops out! I have tried two brands and no luck. It seems fine with blank CD's though! Any ideas?
Additional info: I have followed the guide for resetting the PRAM and the NVRAM, with no change to the situation.

The optical drives do go bad sometimes, and there are separate lasers for DVDs and CDs, which could explain why your CDs play.
You could just replace the drive (about $100USD for a raw drive, IIRC), or perhaps give another try at cleaning. I have heard that another cleaning technique is to fold some thin fuzzy cloth over a credit card, and plunge it into the drive slot, in an attempt to catch any debris.

  • Powerbook keeps ejecting DVD's

9 out of 10 times whenever i insert a DVD into my Powerbook it makes some noises like trying to read and after about 15 to 20 seconds it ejects.
The few times it actually manages to run the dvd playback is not so good like random skipping and then eventually stops.
    Audio CD's seem ok.
I tried a DVD cleaner disc but it didnt help much.
    Any suggestions

  • IMac keeps ejecting DvDS/CDs

Hi,  I have a Imac which won't accept any disc's. Once the disc is in the Imac tries to read but sounds like its failing to read, then its ejected
    Please Help??
    thanks in Advance
    IMac - 10.5.8 / 2GHz / 1GB

If you have not done any troubleshooting then reset the SMC and PRAM first. Try these 2-3 times and if there no change in behavior then go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit and use it on your SuperDrive.
If you have never done the resets mentioned above, please use iMac SMC and PRAM reset for instructions.
