My Macbook 2.1 does not seem to "see" my external seagate HDD.

I ahve connected the power to the HDD, and pulgged the HDD to the Macbook via the usb port. The light is on the HDD, but Macbook is not seeing teh HDD. Any tips?

You may need to format the drive for the MacBook. With the drive plugged in, open Disk Utility. It's in the Utililities folder in your Applications folder. You should see the new drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the external drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click on the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility. Your external drive should now appear on your desktop.

Link checker does not seem to see some broken links-why?

I have a problem with the link checker, it does not seem to report some broken links. Here is the context in which it happens.
My site root folder contains (subset) :
index.php
Templates/child_userarea.dwt
user-area/downloads.html
(The file downloads.html is based on child_userarea.dwt.)
In the template, I have <a href="../../index.php" title="Home page">Home</a>.
In downloads.html, this link appears as <a href="file:///M|/Website/index.php" title="Home page">Home</a>.
According to this post http://forums.adobe.com/message/934203#934203 by Murray, this is because Dreamweaver (CS4 in my case) thinks that index.php is outside the site root folder. I understand it thinks so because indeed ../../index.php points to the folder parent of the root folder. What I don't get is why doesn't the link checker report that ../../index.php does not exist? (And I'm sure it doesn't, there is no file called index.php outside the root folder.)

That's the thing, it is correct! I have checked many times. Here is what is says:
and M:\Website\CERC15\ does exist.
For the time being, I have corrected the paths in the template, so for that particular file, it is now ok. However, I have no idea whether other paths are wrong since I am not sure any longer whether they are spotted by the link checker. I searched for other instances of file:///M|/Website and there is none left.
I suspect this is just one more problem due to another problem non-identified so far (see e.g.http://forums.adobe.com/thread/506149?tstart=30). Since I renamed a big batch of files, I have had problems after problems: the templates disappearing (see that other post); I also lost all the files in 4 other folders (files for download linked to the pages through <a> tags); and Dreamweaver has become particularly slow (but this seems to have been fixed with erasing the cache and the personal preferences).
I'd like to start from scratch again (and why not reinstall Dreamweaver), but I don't know how to recreate the site from zero without loosing anything (e.g. links to templates).

Could you please help me with the installation of the reference external drive. Supplier gives instruction for Windows only. When I follow the window instruction on my iMac, the system does not recognize or see the drive. The problem is NOT the fact that it is a USB 3.0 drive, as USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. The problem is specific to Toshiba Canvio portable drives. They only work if you use a micro-USB2 cable instead of the included USB 3.0 cable. This problem does NOT affect other USB 3.0 portable drives (Seagate, Western Digital, etc.), and they work fine with USB 3.0 cables.
Once again, you need a micro-USB2 cable for the Toshiba to mount.

MacBook Pro screen does not turn on after using external display?

I am using a 15 inch MacBook pro from mid 2012. At work I connect it via mini-display port to an eternal monitor. Recently however, sometimes after I go home and try to turn the laptop back on, it turns on, but the screen does not. If I connect it to another external monitor, it uses that as the default display. Sometimes I can just restart the laptop and everything is fine, other times I have to turn it back on while holding the shift key in order for the laptops built in display to be used.
After work, I unplug the mini-display port, and then power off the laptop.
Can anyone help me understand why this may be happening so I can prevent it from happening again?

Also try a pram reset. Power off, power on holding the keys: Option, command,P,R(no commas) press the keys before thr start chime, then hold them till you hear the chime 2 times. Release and reboot.

I purchased a ringtone and downloaded to my iPhone. I subsequently synched my iPhone with my Macbook and I can now no longer access this ringtone. When I attach my iPhone to my Mac, and iTunes opens, I can see the tone but it's now in grey text unlike the other tones in black text. It also has a little indicator next to it on the left but I can't tell what it is. I can't access the ringtone on the phone and it no longer shows up in my purchased items. I refused to download and pay for it again, so hoping there is someway to recover it or activate it as it seems like it may still be there but just not accessible.

I called Apple tech support. The device turns out to be a WiFi extender. I never would have guessed that the extender would show up on the list since I wouldn't think of it as an airplay device, and in the list, it shows a little speaker icon. In the process of talking with Apple, I gained a greater understanding of how airplay works.
It turns out that there is no stored list of devices in a file on the mac, or anywhere else. I have seen a lot of traffic on the web from people trying to modify this list, but there isn't one. iTunes, and other devices simply poll the network for airplay devices from time to time.

You can only transfer purchases from iTunes on the iPad into iTunes on your computer. If you bought the music from another source, you need to use the source app to transfer the music, or you need a third party app to transfer the music.

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them

The MacBook has no fax-modem. You will need an external (USB) modem.

WDS does not seem to increase strength of my network

Hi all, I have an older flying saucer Airport Extreme a/b/g (think it is snow model it has two ethernet ports and usb but no phone connection about 6 years old) and also a new Airport express b/g/n about 1 year old.
When I first bought the express I tried to use airport utility to extend the network but after a lot of messing about and hours on phone to apple support I discovered that I could not. It was not the end of the world as I was able to join existing network and stream airtunes to hifi in living room but the signal strength in the kitchen was pretty low which was slightly disappointing, my iphone often struggles to get a wifi signal in the kitchen.
I was recently researching some options for my dad and saw a new apple knowledge base article about wds. I downloaded the Graphite Snow update for my airport extreme and followed these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4262 that let me set up a wds network. I have extreme as main base station, fed by ethernet from my cable modem and the express as a wireless remote. I get a green light on the express and can stream airtunes and access with all my machines. However the WDS does not seem to have increased the signal strength in the Kitchen.
The airport express is in the living room 10m kitchen with no walls between but I still only get around 40% signal, in fact even if I unplug the extreme I get the same around 40% signal. Does this sound wrong?
This suggests that although I get a green light on the express the WDS is not helping.
Should I just go back to the original set up of extreme as main base station and express simply joining network as I have read that WDS slows down the network. If I get no signal boost then I don't want to also lose 50% speed on the network!

try this:
system preferences - network - advanced - under preferred network - highlight your network and hit the minus sign to delete it.
now, hit the plus sign to detect your network again - then enter your password again when it asks for it....
see if that works for you.

For what it's worth, I picked up the same Trust eSATA I ExpressCard and had the same problem. The post of DrFrankenmac at https://discussions.apple.com/message/8108772#8108772 solved my problem.
You need to download the BASE Driver for PCI-E Sil3132 (32-bit) from http://www.american-media.com/support/downloadDDDS2350S.html that works just fine.

MacBook Pro The ye dropper should be able to select a given color and find it throughout the image. And it should be adjustable to select colors that are related. I am only getting a "no pixels selected" error message. Even if there is one layer.

I have a late 2012 iMac running osx 10.8.5. I keep losing access to my internal hard drive. I can reboot and regain access and it will last for a few minutes or hours. Disk utility does not seems to help.

I have a late 2012 iMac with an I5 precessor running OSX 10.8.5 and a 1tb internal hard drive. I keep losing access to the internal hard drive/startup disk.
I can reboot and everything operates as normal for a few minutes or hours but then I lose all access again to anything on the hard drive. The computer is still up and running but no files can be accessed and certain websites cannot be acessed even though internet access appears to be normal. Disk utility can only find permission errors related to iTunes which can be repaired only to come back at the next scan (I would not think permission errors would have anything to do with the hard drive crashing). It does not seem to matter what program I am using at the time access is lost and it can lose access sometimes right after reboot when no program is running.

You will need to boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during restart and select it) to run Disk Utility/Disk Repair.

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(
