My macbook air 13.3 keeps checking for updates and nothing is happening

While trying to update the newest bundle from turning on this new computer - I can't get it to stop checking for updates and actually update.

Just tried that, and it won't let me restart without closing the app store, and it won't let me close the app store until all the updates are completed (and the updates are not completing). It's a vicious cycle. Other ideas?

  • HT2311 it won't let me install because I don't have 10.6.8 updated version?  I have checked for updates and nothing comes up.  I can't access Itunes to download Iphone photos etc....

Itunes doesn't recognize my Iphone 4 or Iphone 5.  I get a pop up that says it requires me to install Itunes updated version of 10.7 to access my phones.
When I go to install version 10.7 it says I can't because my system needs to be updated to version 10.6.8?
Need some advise on my next step.

If you're on a Leopard operating system (10.5.8), you're not going to be able to sync to the iPhone 5. (The iPhone 5 needs iTunes 10.7.0.21, and that's only available for Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion.)
You should still be able to sync to the iPhone 4S if you've got iTunes version 10.6.3.25 installed. (Your Leopard operating system supports that.)
A .dmg installer for iTunes version 10.6.3.25 for Mac OS can be found at the following download page on the Apple website:

there is no sound on my macbook air. I have checked the volume and mute controls and the internal speaker are selected.  any one any ideas please.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

  • My IPhone 5 keeps checking for update

My iPhone 5 Running iOS 6.1 When I want to update it keeps checking for update, I said maybe it should take a lot of time but it stayed 2 hours Checking for update Please Help???

Having the same problem with my Sprint iPhone 5.  The service has been dropping on and off for the last month.  Last Saturday it was fine, left it charging over night, woke up the next morning and it said "Searching" in the top left corner of the screen.  Stayed that way for 5 days.  Went the through the routine with Sprint phone support, ##UPDATE#, Erase Network Settings, Restore Phone, no help.
Took it to the Sprint store on Friday and left it with them for an hour and a half - they replaced the SIM card and got it to re-activate.  Phone was fine yesterday, left it charging last night, and again this morning it is "Searching..." again.
Called Apple and they are having me go through the same routine restoring the phone.
Fit to be tied over here.

I have installed itunes 10.7 several times, all goes well. After reeboot, I go to check for updates and it still wants to update to version 10.7! I cant sync to my iphone4 because I get an error message saying I need version 10.6.3 or later. Help

Thank you for getting me started on the track by mentioning "Revo" Uninstaller.  The results of "Revo" spoke volumns on why a successful install of ITunes is so difficult to achieve.  It is the evil "BONJOUR".
I then tripped upon the following site by Apple and the detailed directions (I read, printed, re-read and followed the instructions.  It was intense) brought a successful ITunes, Quick Time and the lovely Bonjour home.  Thank you for the start JD42.

When you say hit and miss do you mean sometimes you print a whole document with no problems, or do you mean each document has problems? This is from HP's website for your printer:
Your sig says 10.6.7 but your message says 10.7. So if it's really Lion, this printer isn't officially supported. Elsewhere on HP's site it says updated drivers will be available on your Mac via Software Update. Have you run that recently?

If I go through the setup that you suggested, won't I screw up the existing software on my system?
No. The iTunes installer will first uninstall the existing version of iTunes and then put in the new one. (That's actually also what happens when you use Apple Software Update to install a new version ... it just doesn't show the uninstall phase like the iTunes64Setup.exe or iTunesSetup.exe does.)

  • When will there be fix for AirPrint in Yosemite? I cannot use my HP printer. I have uninstalled/resinstalled everything you can think of. I have deleted and added my printer more time than I can count. I have checked for updates. Nothing has worked.

When will there be fix for AirPrint? Since upgrading to Yosemite I cannot print from my MacBook Air which I use mostly. (I can print from the my old 2005 G5 desktop and iPad2 just fine on the same network.) I could print just fine when I had Mavericks. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun: resetting print system, deleting and adding the printer, checking for updates, uninstalling and reinstalling printer software and folders, turning off modem, router etc. NOTHING works.
The laptop shows that it is printing but nothing happens. Then it says it cannot locate the printer or there is a broken pipe. But it does tell me that I have a low level in one of the ink cartridges (which is true.)
Help! I have warned everyone I know not to upgrade. Is there a way to go back to Mavericks?

  • TS3899 email was working then all of a sudden its "checking for updates" and wont update

My Iphone 4s was working fine and now I can't get the email to update. I have deleted my account and it still isn't working. Everything else internet wise is working, just not the email. Any ideas?

I can send emails, but when it is "checking for mail" and the circle is moving, it never stops, just keeps searching. I checked my email from my computer and I had 10 new emails, so I know they are waiting for me, I can't even retrieve emails that I have read and are still on my account. It won't bring up the accounts at all

  • Check for Update and Restore iPhone Both Requesting "ipsw" File

    Hi, All --
My 3GS currently has almost 2 GB of "other" stuff on it. Given that it is an 8 GB phone, this is problematic. In addition, performance is very sluggish over the past few months (e.g., press the phone icon and it takes 15-30 seconds before the "shutter" actually opens). So, I was going to reset to factory settings and then restore from backup.
However, when I click on "Restore iPhone..." or even "Check for Update" in iTunes, I am prompted for the location of an 'ipsw' file. I have no idea what this is or where to find it (although I can say that it was not in any of the directories suggested by a Google search). The Apple support site implies that if I just click on "Restore iPhone..." I will be off and running, but clearly this isn't the case. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Matt
    iPhone 3GS
    Win 7 (x64)
    iTunes 11
    iOS 6.1.3

OK, I have it downloaded -- thanks for the tip. The phone is not jailbroken at all. I am a very "vanilla" phone user. So, before I do this, a couple of other questions --
    1. Why is this even necessary? From the Apple support site, it seems like I should just be able to click restore and I am off to the races.
    2. Will this actually do the whole restore, or does it just re-install iOS 6.1.3?
    Thanks again.

  • Check for Updates and User Account Control

With Adobe Reader the 'Check for Updates' function under Help does not appear to function when 'User Account Control (UAC)' in Windows Vista is turned on.
When UAC is turned off, the 'Check for Updates' works, and if there an update is available for Adobe Reader, it will download and install.
Other programs that update software funtion with UAC turned on, albeit with the additional dialog boxes that UAC brings, namely the CTL/ALT/DEL and user account logon (when applicable.)
Without updating the Adobe Reader software, users are leaving themeselves open to vulnerabilities.  Without UAC turned on, users are also leaving themselves open to certain risks.  So there appears to be a dilemma presented.
Does anyone know if/when Adobe will be changing the 'Check for Updates' functionality so it will behave more in-line with the UAC functionality?
Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

With UAC enabled, I start Adobe Reader, click on Help, and there is no selection for updating.  There is nothing for me to click.  Additionally, in Edit, Preferences, Updater, "Do not download or install updates automatically" is selected, and everything on the right pane is greyed-out.
With UAC disabled, I start Adobe Reader, click on Help, and there is a selection for 'Check for Updates.'  In Edit, Preferences, Updater, I can select the various methods of downloading/updating Adobe Reader.  The option to download the update but not install was selected, as I wanted it to be.
Finally, I noticed that the notice from Adobe, 'Update is ready to install,' appears in the Windows tray.  And it is this point that somewhat changes the serverity of the problem, that is, while 'Check for Updates' is not available when UAC is enabled, it appears that Adobe can still be updated through the automatic download feature.  The only problem with this is that I cannot tell if the update was downloaded while UAC was enabled (probably not since the download setting says not to) or while UAC was disabled.
In any case, it still does not appear that our clients can get their Adobe Reader software updated while UAC is enabled.  And this represents a security dilemma for us.
