My MacBook Air came with 4 GB RAM.

Greetings!
My MacBook Air came with 4 GB RAM. How much would it cost to upgrade it to 8 GB RAM?
I am a multitasking musician who wants to maximize what I have.
Thanks folks!

It isn't possible to upgrade a MacBook Air's RAM except when configuring a model prior to purchase.

Does a brand new Macbook Air come with the bookmark already filled with web sites?

There are some sample bookmarks to get new users started. Things like Apple, CNN, Wall Street Journal, etc.

  • My new Macbook Air came with old OS

I bought a new Macbook Air 13" (mid-2012) a few weeks back but it came with Lion installed instead of Mountain Lion. It seems that Apple has also closed their free update program page. Do you know if there is any way to get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion as it seems strange not to have it installed.

Yeah - just spend the $20 - much easier than wasting your time trying to figure out how to get the free upgrade.
I'm sure your time is worth more than the $20 you'll be spending.
I'll give you a little pointer - before you download and install Mountain Lion - invest $10 on a 8GB USB Stick.
Once you download Mountain Lion - it will try to install - cancel the install and create a USB Mountain Lion installer - that way, if you ever need to reinstall Mountain Lion in the future - you don't have to download it again.
Click on the link below on how to create one.

  • Used MacBook Air came with admin password that I cannot change.

I bought a used MacBook Air that came with an administrator password, and someone's name in the upper right corner, and I cannot change it. He didn't have the password either.

Here's how to reset the password.  Once in, I would reload Lion and start fresh.

Is battery life a factor in your decision? If so, knowing that may help someone else give you some more input.

  • After some advice, I am new to Apple and looking to purchase either the MacBook Air 13inch with 256GB and 8GB mem or the MacBook Pro 13inch with retina 256Gb and 8GB mem. I am an assistant principal in a primary school and also studying my masters

After some advice, I am new to Apple and looking to purchase either the MacBook Air 13inch with 256GB and 8GB mem or the MacBook Pro 13inch with retina 256Gb and 8GB mem. I am an assistant principal in a primary school and also studying my masters at university. I don't play computer games and I don't watch movies. I do store photos and videos of my kids and music on iTunes. I also like browsing the net with numerous windows open, check email etc. I am really wanting long battery life as I do a lot of my work on the couch - not close to a PowerPoint. Would the air do the trick or will it soon be outdated as Apple move towards retina display? Both air and pro seem very thin  - almost the same? And not much difference in weight either so both very portable which is also a necessary requirement. Just can't help dreaming about that 12 hour claimed battery life. Any helpful advice/opinions, very much appreciated. Thanks

It's not likely that you'll get 12 hours in reql life. Those benchmarks are set under very strict controlled conditions. Kind of like mileage per gallon claims on cars. If 16GB of ram is an option at all I'd highly recommend you get that. As far as storage 256GB isn't alot, consider storing some things on an external thunderbolt real

  • Windows 8 (all versions) stop several times, bootcamp 4.0 macbook air core i 5 4GB Ram, 128 SSD

    Hello People.
1- Macbook Air Core i 5 4GB Ram 128 SSD. mountain lion 10.8.2 (latest updates).
2- Windows 8 core or windows 8 professional or windows 8 enterprise.
    mixed with:
    Boot camp 4.0 in a 35GB partition.
    Results:
after complete installing the windows 8  it stops working if I install windows support drivers then stops working again.
Then I must restart required by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
installing on a battery, not charging is OK and works good drivers updated, but when you plug in the charger for charging the MAcbook Air Battery , it stops working again.
I Confused. May be a driver of

I see that you are saying all versions of Windows 8 are failing on your system, but are you including 32-bit and 64-bit flavors?  I understand why 32-bit versions might give you grief (too much RAM for a 32-bit system to handle).  A 64-bit system might still have device driver issues.  Microsoft does not auto-magically have all the device drivers in the world that are necessary to make any system usable.  The original device manufacturers must provide Microsoft with drivers before the Windows Update servers would be able to communicate said drivers to the computers in question.
In regards to Apple devices, Apple has not yet released the device drivers needed to run the hardware with Windows 8.  Apple has released the drivers for previous versions of Windows (XP SP2 and higher, Vista RTM and higher, 7 RTM and higher) to their userbase, but not to Microsoft for distribution through Windows Update (unless I am mistaken).  Until Apple releases a version of Boot Camp updated for use with Windows 8, they have not yet released any form of the full collection of necessary device drivers for normal device function with Windows 8.  Running compatibility mode on the Windows 7 device driver bundle via boot camp is not a fully palatable solution because compatibility mode generally is meant for application programs, not device driver services.  Therefore, partial compatibility might be gained by using the Windows 7 device drivers for Windows 8 with the compatibility mode enabled prior to install.  Unfortunately, much unanticipated incompatibility is equally likely with such a decision.
Some parting words on the subject may be necessary for clarification: prior to the RTM versions of Windows 8, the trial versions of Windows 8 were distributed with a much wider array of device drivers than the RTMs.  This was for Microsoft's testing purposes.  Furthermore, some of the architecture used during the trial period likely used Windows 7 engines more than Windows 8 engines.  This means the Windows 7 drivers pack would have had more likelihood of working during the Beta and Release Candidate periods than during the final Golden Master period we have now entered.  Regardless, it is not recommended by Apple (our hardware manufacturer) to use another method of installing Windows on a Mac than to utilize Boot Camp.
As Mende1 suggested, you would be wise to reinstall a previous version of Windows you may have been running.  Also, given your previous post, you will want to repair your OS X installation back to full functionality prior to the Windows reinstall.  For a reasonable timeline estimate, consider that it took 89 days from the original release of Windows 7 by Microsoft until Apple originally released device drivers via an updated Boot Camp.  That puts a reasonable ETA for the necessary Boot Camp update at January 22nd/23rd.  Even though this does not seem to apply to your situation, the discounted download for the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade will end after January 31st.
    Cheers!

  • Should i take Macbook air 13' with 128GB and upgrade to 8Gb or just take Macbook ait 13' with 256 GB?

I'm a graphic student in university. Now i don't know i should pick Macbook air 13' with 128GB and upgrade to 8Gb or just take Macbook ait 13' with 256 GB?
I worry  Macbook air 13' with 128GB can't support fully to install those graphic software like photoshop, lightroom, illustration , Adobe and so on..
    Thank you.

If I had to choose just one thing I’d go with 8GB RAM. There’s no way to upgrade memory later so if you buy the stock 4GB RAM model and need more RAM later your only choice is to buy a new computer. Even if you find the 128GB SSD too small later you have alternatives including moving less important files to an external hard drive (music, old projects, and video are good examples). You can also purchase a SD RAM card for the SD slot to store additional files on - I have a flush mount 128GB SD card in mine which is where I store my music and older files. And while it will be expensive you can be fairly certain that eventually an upgrade SSD will become available.
If possible I’d recommend both the 8GB RAM upgrade and the 256GB SSD but as I said, the RAM upgrade really is a must. BTW, I have a huge amount of software on my computer: Creative Suite, Office, and tons more and have no trouble keeping it all within 128GB. What did push me over to make the larger drive a must have is that I also need to run Windows so I have 45GB tied up in Windows and Windows software. (I’m a programming instructor and need to test my assignments for Win and Mac users.)

  • HT2090 my macbook air camera is not working

My Macbook Air camera is not working when I try to use photobooth. I have no problem with google hangouts or skype. How can I resolve this problem?

    • Restart your Mac. If the problem continues, use the Disk Utility in your Mac's Finder > Go > Utilities folder to repair permissions.  Then test the camera again.
    • If the your trouble persists,.  reinstall OS X Mavericks.  Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that completes the reinstall and before testing the camera again.
    •  Also check your Mac's  > Software Update... or Apple - Support - Downloads for latest Mavericks updates applicable to your Mac model such as OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 Update.

  • I got a mid 2011 macbook air 13 with 128gb ssd is it possible to upgrade my storage?

i got a mid 2011 macbook air 13 with 128gb ssd is it possible to upgrade my storage?

It is entirely possible, as many have known from day one (as ifixit's first teardown revealed). Unlike the unupgradeable memory, the SSD is a discrete expansion card that is removeable with just one screw, after removing the case cover. It is however debateable as to whether such an expansion is worth the possible risk of making demonstrable changes to the MBA whilst still under warranty. So you may want to stave off consideration for a while.
I made the upgrade recently on my older 2010 MBA, and it was easier than upgrading the HDD on my old MacBook Pro.

  • I would like to know how do I install the brazilian keyboard into macbook air, keyboard with accents (Portuguese Language), I tried so many times how to put into it (Macbook Air). So, thanks for now! I'm waiting for it.

I would like to know how do I install the brazilian keyboard into macbook air, keyboard with accents (Portuguese Language), I tried so many times how to put into it (Macbook Air). So, thanks for now! I'm waiting for it.

After you go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources as suggested by sberman, click on the + button and scroll down to Portuguese and select that.  Over at the right you will see the choices Brazilian, Brazilian abnt, Portuguese.  You might want to add all three to see which you like best.
The "Brazilian" layout is pretty useless.  It is identical to the US layout and the only way to make accents is via the option key shortcuts:  option + n, then o gives you õ.
The Brazilian abnt and Portuguese layouts have dead keys for adding accents over at the right edge of the keyboard.  But these may not match what is printed on your keys.
You may prefer to stay with the US layout.  On that you can get accented letters by just holding down the base letter and selecting what you want from the popup menu that appears.  Or you can use the option key shortcuts.
Another option is the layout called US International PC, which has accent deadkeys on ~, ', etc.
Which ever layout you want to use, you must select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.
To see which key does what for any layout, use the Keyboard Viewer:

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • Can the MacBook Air work with any other type of internet connection beside wifi?

Can the MacBook Air work with any other kind of internet connection besides Wifi?

Who? ITS VERY important when doing a restore, in fact you DO NOT want to do a wifi restore
The pros all have that Ethernet adapter,... that should tell you something. An Ethernet restore via that "thing" makes restoring the OSX about 8X faster.
Its called a Gigabit Ethernet adapter for a reason.
"who the heck" is anyone working with their Macbook Air at home and want a MUCH FASTER download / internet connection.
*Stockbrokers who pack their Macbook Air, arrive at work and plug that "hardwired" dongle to their Air........  because even seconds in the stock market can make the difference between losing a million $$, or making a million $$
