My MacBook air charger won't charge

My power cord will not charge despite using both connecters. Appears to be at connection point

I had small particles of metal caught on the magnetic connector of the Mac.  It took a magnifing glass to see and remove them. They prevented a proper connection.

  • Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers.

My Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers. It seems to be the combination of the chargers and the computer. I was thinking whether the Thunderbolt screen has a larger power supply which easier activates the computer to actually receive the charge. It reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia 800 telephone, which when totally exhausted needs a strong charger to be activated again. I am as frustrated as most others.  I have got two chargers, and both of them sometimes work, other times not. Sometimes, they start working after a while. Is Apple meanwhile coming up with a solution or advice how to handle such situation?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,

  • Can a MacBook Air charger  charge a MacBook  (white)?

Can a MacBook Air charger  charge a MacBook  (white)?

The power available from the MagSafe adapter intended for a MacBook/Air
likely would be insufficient for a MacBook or MacBook/Pro. They vary due
to output specification, provide inadequate power and likely could be unsat-
    isfactory in performance.
While you may be able to charge the battery in a MacBook whose original
adapter was higher output than a that from a MacBook Air, you may not
be able to run the MacBook from MB/Air adapter whilst charging its battery.
Other considerations should be followed, but general specification and well
intended design for correct power to the battery and computer needs have
to be met by the power adapter.
•Intel-Based Apple notebooks: Identifying the right power adapter and power cord
    •Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters
    •Mac notebooks: All about batteries
You should try & match the correct spec adapter, or nearest. May be of higher
output than the one originally shipped with the notebook, but check all the spec
to make sure that, too, can be a workable match and not cause undue damage.
Depending on the build model identifier of the MacBook (these, made between
2006 and 2010) the power requirements changed; however a current working
replacement Magsafe 60w adapter is available from Apple, or quality vendor such
    as OWC, see example: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MC461LLA/
    Hopefully this helps somewhat
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why won't my Macbook Air charge?

My Macbook Air (late 2010) stopped charging and recommended a battery replacement. After replacing the battery with one purchased off of ebay, the computer still turns on when plugged in, but it will not charge. A very faint light is shown on the magsafe. I'm wondering if the problem is with the new battery or if there is another issue internally. Any diagnostic advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

But to be completely fair Apple had a bunch of bad batteries they had to replace...
Qualify 'bunch'.  That is simply not the case at all.
people come here to report problems,
its easy to consider there is a a problem with things when you stick your head in an emergency room, which is what these boards are.
which is a false statistical sampling, and more still a sample from the wrong place.
All batteries produced for Apple contain microprocessor chips for SMC communication.

  • Macbook air charger

Is this charger http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QWVRL2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 compatible with an 11 inch macbook air?

That is likely an original Magsafe connector for pre-2012 models. You  can buy a converter for Magsafe to Magsafe 2, if yours is a 2012 (but it will cost $10).
That t-style won't work very well for an older (2008-2010) generation Air, either.

  • Sparks when connecting MacBook Air charger to the wall

Hi everybody. Today when I plugged in the MacBook Air power charger to the wall in my room I saw and heard sparks for the first time and the I noticed that the connecter ends of the charger have burnt a little (I see small black dents) but the charger is working normally. Shall I stop using the charger and buy a new one? I mean does this have any effect on the Macbook?

then you indicate a grounding issue on a certain socket in your house.
You mentioned "connecter ends of the charger"
lets make sure, youre referring to the magsafe end that connects to the MAC, or to the 2 prong wall connector
    which is it?
post a pic of the "small black dents"
otherwise use a regulated power strip in the location which has the faulty wall outlet you indicate.

After updating firmware 10 days ago, I'm experiencing similar charging problems. Also I noted that USB drives often do not mount when inserted. Removing and reinserting works... after several tries.
    I suspect bad firmware.

  • Extended cable for macbook air charger

The cable between our charger magsafe A1374 and macbook air is only 1,8 meters. Is it possible to get a charger with 4 or 5 meter cable?

Use an extension cord between the wall and the charger.  Easier to transport a short Apple-cable with you.

  • MacBook Air Charge Vibration .

Hello , I recently got a MacBook Air and it works perfectly but i've noticed that when i put it on charge it and when i touch it at the metallic parts , it gives me a very light electrick shock like a very light vibration. It happens only when i put it to charge ... Please help me because im worried about it

    Hi !
    Yes that's the feeling i get !
I didn't contact with apple but i read that it's a grounding/earthing problem . i dont know what that really is but in the apple "Hello." book that comes with MBA's , at page 55 , at the second paragraph , it's written "The AC power cord provides a grounded connection." In my country is not used the 3 prong connection so i didn't tried it yet. _Can you try this and tell me if the feeling is gone ?_ .. Because if it works I will probably buy a new power cord that it's compactible in my country .
    Thank You

  • Why doesn't my macbook air charge?

I just bought a macbook air and when I plug the ac adaptor the led on it doesn't come on. I can't charge the mac !!! I tried with several ac adapters from other macbook air computer and it's the same. What's going on ????

You may have a defective connection, on a new machine take it back for return/exchange or take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for repair. Also you can contact AppleCare, you have 90 days of free telephone service. They're open M-Saturday so you may need to wait until tomorrow morning.

  • Why is my Macbook Air charger scorching hot and not charging?

My MacBook Air early 2014 edition that I got in August has recently had an issue with the Apple charging block. As I was charging my computer today, it suddenly stopped and I noticed that the charging block was scorching hot. I let it cool down and then continued charging. I am assuming this is not normal. Anyone know what's wrong? Could it be a defective charger or something to do with the new Yosemite update? Should I contact Apple?

A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.
A new Mac comes with 90 days of free tech support from AppleCare.

  • Macbook Air charger for Macbook Pro Retina?

The Air charger is 45W and the Pro Retina charger is 85W.  I understand that the Pro charger can be used for the Air and forums have said that the Air charger does not provide enough wattage for the Pro.  My question is will the Air charger fully charge the Pro if the Pro is not being used while it is plugged in?  And will the Air charger overheat or burn out per se if used for the Pro while the Pro is being used.

It will charge the Retina (if the retina is off) but slowly, and it will run hot, make sure that it has decent airflow.

  • Mid 2012 MacBook Air: fan won't run faster when overheated

mid 2012 MacBook Air, system (tried Mountain lion/Mavericks/Yosemite, all have the same problem)
    WHAT HAPPENED:
The other day I was watching some flash video on the couch, and I heard the fan running like crazy. The laptop shut off 2 seconds later-- no warnings, just black out all of a sudden. (ps: I usually use it on the desk. Only used in bed/couch for a few times)
It won't start if I press the button immediately afterwards. Instead, it will restart itself after a few minutes, no matter what.
I shut it down and let it cool down for about an hour. From then on it wouldn't last more than 5 minutes when used heavily (Facetime, chrome together) and about an hour when used lightly (only one app like chrome). Then it shuts off without warning like before. The laptop felt really hot, and I couldn't hear the fan.
The battery drop down menu says "service battery", and doesn't disappear after a few restarts.
    WHAT THE APPLE GENIUS SAID:
I took it to the Apple Store the next day, a genius ran a hardware test, and it showed no problem at all. After the test and restart, the "service battery" warning was gone too.
The genius said it seemed everything is ok. The battery only ran 159 cycles, and it's supposed to last 1000 cycles.
But he doesn't know why the laptop would shut down out of nothing. If we had apple care, they could bring it back and stress it out, to see whether it shuts off and find the problem. I just brought it home to see what happens.
    WHAT I TRIED:
    1. Max CPU: the fan doesn't react, still runs at 2000 rpm.
    2. Hardware Test:
when the laptop is hot, it won't survive the test, shuts off during the test.
when it's cool, it passes the regular test in 1min30s, showing no problems.
when it's cool, the extended test cannot last 3min before it dies.
    3. Fan test, it can run at maximum speed. In this case the CPU temperature will drop quickly.
    4. The Enclosure Bottom, Memory Controller and the Mem Bank temperature doesn't seem to change. (I don't know if they are supposed to be that way...)
Please give me some advice about what you think the problem is, and what I can do about it. Thank you all so much!

If it didn't show any problems in the Apple Store, maybe its your ambient temperature? Although even this shouldn't cause your machine to behave the way it is currently. You need to record it or something then show Apple the issue.
