My MacBook air hard drive died how and where can I fix it?
I need some help my MBA hard drives died I do not have any clue what to do. I also do not have the original softwere. Please help
I'm confused as to why you don't know what to do. Is there some reason why you can't take it right back to where you bought it? You say it's first gen--you mean 2008? Do you have Apple Care?
If you are no where near where you bought it, you can take it into any Apple store, or to any Apple authorized dealer and they should be able to take care of it, or, if you have Apple Care, you can call the Apple Helpline. Apple will send you a box, you send them the computer and they fix it and send it back. If you have Apple Care you probably won't have to pay. If you don't, then you might want to know how much it's going to cost you.

I'm wondering if someone can help me take a look at the console messages to see if my MacBook Air hard drive is possibly failing.
I had shut down my computer and the shut down process went just fine. A few minutes later when I turned on the computer again, the Apple logo showed up with the spinning disc/sun ray but it never got to the login window.
I hooked up the SuperDrive to repair disk permissions and repair disk. Indeed, it needed disk repairs and permissions to be repaired. It seems to be running fine now.
When I opened the Console, it says something about disk I/O error for some of the log entries.

And what happens if the OPs Mac is of a newer version that came with a version of Snow Leopard above the 10.6.3 version that is on that Retail, meant for Upgrade, disc? Like if it came with 10.6.4/.5/.6/.7? That disc you linked to would not work.
He needs to contact Apple and get a replacement set of Original System Reinstall Discs. That is the only way he can be assured it will work and he would also get the iLife apps which he wouldn't buying that DVD disc you linked to.

Apple used to ship recovery/installation disks that were tied to specific computer models so that a 15" MBP installer disk coudn't be used on a 13" MBP computer. So you need either full installer or the recovery disks for your specific model.
And BTW, I have a 2009 13" MBP w/8GB RAM that is running Mavericks. With a 5400 RPM drive I used to experience a bit of beach balling (think hour glassing) but an SSD has given it new life. It feels now slower than the newest MBPs - it obviously benchmarks considerably slower but in everyday use it doesn't feel like a 4 1/2 year old computer at all. -
My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?
Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys. -

My new Macbook Air hard drive gone bad
My new macbook air hard drive just died on me last saturday while I was working on my paper. With that I've lost all my files. I took it to Apple store, but I was told that all they can do is to replace the hard drive for me.
I'm not really happy with the service. You pay so much more to get your money's worth. I was suggested that if I wanted to retrieve my files I had to take it to an outside source for about $500-$700. It's like buying a defective device that causes you some nasty injury and when you ask for their part of responsibility they tell you to take a hike.

My point is this: whether Apple or a PC, when you buy a brand new computer, the manufacturer should not only replace the failed part (in my case it did, as is the norm in the industry), but TRY to retrieve the lost file(s), when is applicable, free of charge, during the warrantee period.
Does it make sense? I find this a very reasonable request/demand. Remember that, according to Apple representative, an outside source was potentially able to retrieve my files.
As a customer, I want to have a better service, especially when I pay more for the promised quality.
If we customers were happy with what is offered/or not, then we would have still worked 70 hours per week, our cars didn't a seatbelt, and ...

I understand where you are coming from, however, there is nothing that they can do. If the drive has been damaged and does not work, then there isn't anything that they can do. When those other places charge the prices that they do, it's to pay for them having to physically remove the platters from the drive that you currently had, and keeping every tiny spec of dust off them as a spec of dust could render the platter useless if it gets caught between the heads and the platters. This being said, they would then have to take those platters and place them in a new drive basically. Most people understand that there is nothing that can be done when something like this happens, they have external drives and they backup all their data. I have mine backed up on two seperate drives and in a remote location away from everything here. Let's put it like this, say you bought a house, and then you put a lot of your memories and things and whatnot into your house, say pictures, papers, things like that. Now your house burns down, would you expect the people that built your house be responsible and demand that they somehow get your pictures and things like that back from your house that were burned up? It's kind of asking the same thing that you would get if you were to demand that they somehow magically make your drive start working and get the information off it. -

I created a partition on my Macbook Air hard drive and used format as 'Free Space'. How do I retrieve this partition/space back? I have OS X version 10.8.2

Open Disk Utility, select the hard drive in the sidebar and open Partitions tab. Then, you'll see a column with your Mac OS X partition and your free space. You just have to drag the OS X volume to the end of the column, so the free space will be added to your volume. Finally, press Apply -

After you have installed the OSX on the new HDD in your MBP, install the old HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB. Then try to drag and drop your data to the new HDD.
If this proves unsuccessful, you may look for data recovery software on the Internet. There will be free trails to see if it will work or not. If the trial suggests that it will work, then you will have to purchase the software.
The last resort is a professional data recovery service that will offer NO guarantees and charge a lot of money.
As you now can appreciate, backups eliminate such predicaments.

First, make sure you open Acrobat, and not Adobe Reader. It's a common mistake.
From Acrobat, use File | Create | Combine Files into a Single PDF:
On the next panel you can select the files you want to combine, rearrange them, etc., and finally click Combine.
P.S. your menu may look slightly different, as we may not be using the same Acrobat version. -

the first time we installed a new SAP-System with sapinst on DB2/LUW V9.
SAP works. (As yet we "drove" DB2 only on z/os)
SAP Created four db2 User : DB2<SID>, <SID>ADM, SAP<SID> and SAP<SID>DB!
They all have no "Grant" privilege?
How and where can i do a User grant to SYSADM,SYSCTRL,.. ,
there's no admin?

in addition to explicit GRANTs DB2 LUW has the concept of privileges.
db2<dbsid> is instance owner and part of the SYSADM group db<dbsid>adm.
<sapsid>adm is part of the SYSCTRL group db<dbsid>ctl.
sap<sapsid> is part of the SYSMAINT group db<dbsid>mnt.
In addtion to that <sapsid>adm is DBADM. This right is explicitly granted during the installation with SAPInst.
The relationship between OS group and privilege is controlled by the database manager configuration parameters SYSADM, SYSCTRL and SYSMAINT.
The rights of these privileges are described in the DB2 documentation.
