My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it.

My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!

Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying.  Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists.  Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again.  Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance.  If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.

  • Macbook Air has trouble connecting immediately with wireless network

My Macbook Air seems takes a while to find the wireless network (but it does eventually find it). I get several "No Internet Connection" dialogue error boxes before the computer finally finds the network. How do I get rid of this and why is it doing it? My MacPro works just fine finding the wireless network.

From your signature it seems you didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard. If not, that could solve your problem. I had exactly the same issue under Leopard, but upgrading to Snow Leopard solved it completely.

  • Macbook sometimes has problems connecting

The brief summary is that my Macbook (white, core duo) has problems connecting to my G network when it has been on sleep mode. A restart usually fixes the issue until the computer goes to sleep again.
The G network is comprised of a Linksys WRT54GS that connects using WDS to the AirPort Express (G model). This network is used for any devices that use B/G and to share a printer. I use MAC address filtering (the lists are updated on both the AirPort Express and the Linksys routers), and security is WEP 128 (Because I could never get WPA or WPA2 to work with WDS...)
Here is what I've done to try to remedy the situation:
    * Tried to remove the wireless security, and just let the MAC filtering work. This had no effect.
    * Tried to remove the MAC filtering, and just let the wireless security work. This also had no effect.
    * Tried to unplug the AirPort Express. _This worked, and allows the Macbook to connect everytime._
This leaves me somewhat puzzled; why would restarting the macbook allow it to connect? (this would imply the problem is with the airport express, not the macbook?), Is it more likely that it's the AirPort Express device itself or a problem with the WDS linking? (Airport Utility shows everything is fine). I use manually-assigned IPs, but could it be a problem with IP lease times?
While most computers use the Airport extreme N network (which is wired to the linksys router), all iPod touchs (5 of them), iPhones, and two PCs use the same G network and have never exhibited the same problem. I have reformatted the white macbook, deleted any airport preference files, etc., to no avail.
Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    Dave.

    Dave,
Check some settings on your Macbook as follows:
Open System Preferences and click on Network so that your connections are displayed on the left of the pane.
Click the small gear shaped icon at the bottom of the connection list area
Select Set Service Order and make sure your Airport connection is at the top of the list so that it will be first in line for a connection. (If ethernet is set first now, your computer is spending time trying to find an ethernet connection before it looks for an Airport connection).
Now click on your Airport connection on the left to highlight it and click Advanced at the lower right of the pane.
Make sure that your network is at the top of the list of wireless networks so your computer won't spend time looking for other wireless networks first.
Delete any networks that you no longer need.
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Remember any networks this computer has joined"
Leave the next two boxes unchecked.
    Any help?

Reset the SMC, then test your MacBook Air again.
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset:
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • MacBook Air will not connect to a specific network

    Hi,
I recently moved into a new place and the landlord has a wireless connection in place. My Macbook Pro , iPad and iPhone 5s all connect to the network without a problem (it requires a password and we were able to connect just fine). However, my mom's MacBook Air is not connecting at all. It recognizes the network and even establishes a connection to it, however, I only see an exclamation point on the airport icon on the top right once the connection is established and we cannot browse any websites.
Does anyone have any potential solution to this? I'm not able to drive to the Apple Store right now so I was hoping something could be done on my end prior to going to the genius bar.
    Thanks in advance

  • Macbook air will not connect to the wifi network

I recently had to replace my wireless network router and now my macbook air will not connect to the network. it worked fine with the old wireless router. Now, i get a "unable to join wi-fi network" message. The network ID (SSID) and password (WPA) are the same as before. I try to manually enter the password, but continue to get the previous message.
Any help in figuring out how to correct this problem is greatly appreciated.
Also, I have several PCs in the house that have had zero problems connecting to my wireless with the new router. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
Ever since did the last airport utility update this has been happening.
I believe the airport utility update is solely a software update. Repair permission and repair disk (boot from your installation disk A) may help.
Other wise, http://osxdaily.com/2009/12/22/mac-wireless-problems-guide-to-troubleshooting-ai rport-wireless-problems-on-your-mac/ may help, too.

  • Macbook Air failed wifi connection - Does anybody know the solution?

Macbook Air has been connecting to Wi-Fi network without issue for almost 2 years.
Haven't been able to find a solution to 'failed Wi-Fi connection' so far.
Wi-Fi is turned on but is not connected to a network.
    Wi-Fi Settings Failed.
    Have tried trashing:
    Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.eapolclient.configurat ion.plist
    Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.identification.plist
    Networkintefaces.plist
    And restart, but no change.
    Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
    1.6GHz Intel Core i5
    Does anybody know the solution?

Had restarted the router a few times to no avail.
Checked out the vendor's website, but wasn't able to find anything of use, -it was limited options wise.
Nothing in the OS X recommendations for Wi-Fi settings jumped out me.
I wasn't able to experiment with the band/channel settings.
I ended up buying a USB/Ethernet adaptor so I could at least have access to the net (5 days ago), -which didn't change the Wi-Fi issue...
However, after a couple of days without use, I've woken the machine and noticed the Wi-Fi signal at full strength. The network is detected and connected!
    Problem solved ...But how?

  • My MacBook Air has recently started having substantial WiFi connectivity issues. How do I fix this?

For the last couple weeks my MacBook Air has started having some mighty substantial connectivity issues.
When I wake it from sleep, or if I'm using it for an extended period (say, more than 5-10 minutes), the connection will become extremely unreliable. This primarily happens with browsers, or the Twitter application. For example, if I start a call on Skype the call will continue to function just fine, but I won't be able to connect to any websites through any browser. I've tried Safari, Chrome, and Firefox while the connectivity problems are occuring. When they do occur, a full shut down and cold boot are required to make it work again for a short while.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've done numerous checks for malware using Clam Xav and Sophos Anti-Virus. (I didn't suspect that this would be the issue, but it was still something that I decided to rule out.) Additionally, I've tried connecting using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands on my wireless router. Neither seems to be more successful than the other. (Note: The 5GHz works perfectly and without interruption on my iPad and desktop PC. The 2.4GHz works perfectly with my iPhone 4S and Xbox 360. I feel that with that in mind, I can safely rule out the router as the root of the problem. Both of these examples go on for very extended periods of time. I game regularly using both my PC and Xbox 360.)

    Hi Jollified,
Does your sound work when you try to use head/earphones? If so, try the following:
Plug your Headphones into your Mac.
Play a sound through them (a song for example), then stop the sound.
Make sure 'Preferences' is isn't open. If it is, Quit.
    Launch System Preferences > Sounds.
While the Sounds tab is open and set to 'Headphones', pull out the Headphones from the jack.
You should see your Mac reset to 'Internal Speakers'
Also, I see you have tried resetting the PRAM, have you tried resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)? Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
As for your MacBook not sleeping when you close the lid, there are many reasons this can occur.
First of all, check out Apples article on the issue: OS X Yosemite: If your Mac won’t go to or stay in sleep If you find these steps don't help, try a few of the following:
A common cause for the Mac not sleeping is your printer. If there are queued jobs waiting to be printed, but your printer is switched off, for some reason you Mac just wont like it and simply will not go to sleep. System Preferences > Print and Scan > Open Print Queue
Do you have an Ethernet Cable connected? People have reported in the past that removing their Ethernet allowed their Mac to sleep. This goes for other things you may have connected directly to your Mac also.
Try heading into your Mac Preferences > Sharing and deselecting 'Internet Sharing' as well as 'Printer Sharing'.
Also deselect Wake For Network Access by heading to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Wake For Network Access.
Energy Saver > Schedule > Startup or Wake - Uncheck.
Alternatively, set your system preferences to Never Sleep, and put into Sleep manually: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep > Never.
    Good luck!

    See this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,

  • Has your Macbook Air overheating problems been solved?

    Hi All,
Has there been a solution to the Macbook Air overheating problem for you?
I'm considering selling my MBA but want to see first if there has been any new updates on this issue.
I have a Macbook Air with the specifications as follows:
Model: MacBook Air 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Production year: 2008
    Production week: 15 (April)
    OS X Version 10.5.7
Have had the computer for about a year now and it has been constantly overheating and becoming more or less unusable when doing so. Have been hoping upgrades to the software would solve this eventually but that does not seem to have happened.
As I'm writing this room temperature is about 20 degrees celcius. Laptop sits on a table with power cable plugged in. Not running any external screen. There is no video streaming or music playing. Only the Firefox browser and a few more idle apps are active such as Mail and Skype (in the background). Even under these conditions the fan is currently running loud at 6100rpm and the Macbook Air is very hot underneath.
CPU temperature is currently 54 degrees Celsius. Both cores seem to be active.
Now, as an experiment I will head over to YouTube to watch a video and open up Microsoft Word in the background, a perfectly normal usage for a computer this new. This is what happens:
The computer starts to become painfully slow. After for example clicking an item in the browser there is a 1-3 second delay before the click actually becomes effective. It's now so hot underneath that I would not want to keep it in my lap. It is hard to use the mouse pointer properly as it does not update in realtime, I have to assume where it will land based on my movements. When scrolling, the spinning wheel icon becomes active. Everything is now happening in slow motion.
Video is lagging heavily. I can only see probably 1 out of every 10 frames or less of the video. All applications running are very slow. CPU temperature is now 64 degrees celsius. Fan is at 6200. Computer is now unusable for me. When I scroll a page in the browser it takes about 2-3 seconds before anything happens. Changing tabs takes 5-6 seconds after I click them. I will have to shut it down before re-starting and resuming work. When room temperature is even higher on a hot day needless to say everything gets a lot worse quicker.
Is this normal for Macbook Air's? If that is the case they are more or less unusable for most types of normal 2009 year usage (video, audio, browsing, office work etc).
What solutions have you found? Coolbook? Software/Firmware updates? Hardware changes? Please let me know if you have been able to make your MBA not overheat under normal usage.

    Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your replies to start with.
I have tried to install Coolbook now and has it running. When using 'throttling' and letting it change CPU speeds (I think..) the problem still remains. When watching a video or other demanding task the temperature goes way up. Running a CPUTest (small or big) gets CPU temperatures of up to 84-85 C. Fan of course at 6200rpm all the time.
Right now, I have Coolbook set to 800Mhz and 0.9V. Apps running are Firefox, Skype, Mail and iTunes with no audio playing. CPU temperature at 56 c and fan speed (as usual) at 6200rpm. I can use the computer now. It is still lagging and not very fast at all. Sometimes text appear 1-2 seconds after I have written it on the keyboard.
So Coolbook has made a difference for me, but only when putting the CPU speed down to 800MHz. I wouldn't call reducing the CPU speed to half a 'solution' though and will not keep that as a long term solution. Reducing voltages for higher CPU-speeds 0.9875V for 1600MHz does not work, it still heats up massively.
Have used the MBA for the whole day today and can't recall a single time the fan has not been around 6200rpm except right after boot.
Thanks for the tips on upgrading to 10.5.8. I will try that right away and let you know how it works out.
Have also considered buying some cooling device but just as you say that feels like a bit of a last thing to resort to.
I'm surprised Apple hasn't responded stronger to this. Had this happened in the car industry we would have seen thousands of cars being sent back to the garage to be fixed.
If this only has to do with some specific production weeks then the right thing to do would be for Apple to let those people have their computers either fixed or replaced.

I think the McAfee suite will do the trick when I pay them a one-time fee of $69 or $179 for a year for unlimited support.
Your call of course but IMO a waste of money. Please read this first:
There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions. The same is not true of other forms of malware, such as Trojans. Whilst it is a fairly safe bet that your Mac has NOT been infected by a virus, it may have another security-related problem, but more likely a technical problem unrelated to any malware threat.

  • Mid 2013 Haswell Macbook Air Wifi problem: software or hardware?

I have the 11" Macbook Air (mid-June 2013, Haswell) and it has problems connecting to wifi. It reluctantly connects after searching for the network for a few minutes, but then it stays connected.
My question is: can anyone tell me if this is a hardware issue (in which case return/repair is necessary) or a software issue? If it can be fixed by an update, I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to waste my time if the machine is physically defective.
